  1. Reason why we gave our guests Diamondback in 2009 is because it's the ride we wanted to add to our thrill ride lineup. We could have gone a lot of different directions. We wanted to add a B&M coaster. The ride has proven to be immensely popular, giving nearly 10 million rides in five seasons. The majority of our guests that ride roller coasters absolutely love it! Why is it so rough compared to nitro? With the jackhammering that has to scrub off speed causing the lack of airtime. Many veteran roller coaster riders -- those that have ridden literally hundreds of roller coasters -- have told us they experience an abundance of airtime on Diamondback.

  3. It's hard to believe 10 years has passed and top thrill dragsters is still one of the most popular rides at Cedar Point.

  4. I don't know of any books about John Allen, but he followed in Herb Schmeck's footsteps at PTC so the book Herbert P. Scmeck The Forgotten Legacy would be a good read for you. If you are near Columbus I could lend it to you. The biggest thing I know is from Don Helbig telling us on a Beast tour that the secret to his success and his ride's longevity was that he placed his high stress elements close to the ground. Another trait of his was to have low floaty hills instead of a series of high hills. He passed this on to KI when The Beast was being planned, he also gave the crew at Ki his formulas and calculations on a place mat or menu at the International Street Restaurant when they were trying to coax him out of retirement. As a result all of the high speed turns and helix are very low.

  7. Since the crowds were beyond lite today, I decided to marathon Diamondback and sit in every row of the train. (some twice) I was going to try and ride in every seat of the train but the rain eventually got too heavy and decided every row was good enough. Maybe next week. My seat of choice has always been 1-3 so today was a good experience of getting to know the rest of the train. I discovered that there is a HUGE difference between the front and the back of the train. The airtime in the back is amazing. The forces also seem much greater. Getting pulled over the top of the hills and in and out of the turns is something you don't get in the front. The back of the train has a different "roughness" to it. Not that Diamondback is rough to begin with but you can feel more of the track in the back. The middle of the train is much less forceful and you just seem to "float". It's not so much "throw you out of your seat" airtime. A good place for beginners or those that aren't that into coasters. The front is great for viewing the ride and for "hanging" over the hills. The first drop is still amazing in row 1 or 2. I also discovered the hard way to NOT have your hands up while sitting in the last row and hitting the splashdown. The force of the water hurts when it hits your arms and you will get off looking like you wet yourself when it all runs down your arm and into your seat. I also discovered that some of the restraints lock in different locations than others. Usually, I have a few inches between my legs and the restraint allowing great airtime. Some of them locked lower squishing my legs. Sucked for airtime on those runs. Overall, It was a great day at the park after 19 runs on Diamondback and hitting almost all of the other rides in the park.

  10. Funny how you talk about how DB shuffles and jackhammers yet if you ask 99.9% of the rides, they'll describe it as being "the really smooth coaster." Sounds like you're really just throwing pasta against the wall to see what sticks. By the way... I rode a bunch of Intamins up at Cedar Point a few weeks ago... they aren't exactly smooth themselves...

  11. It's a five-day, four-night trip. If I won, I would probably do one day at Knott's, one at SFMM, two at Disneyland, and one for general sightseeing/relaxing.

  13. ...like my grandparents! They're already complaining about Banshee. My family is moving into the neighborhood right next to theirs and our house is in the back of the neighborhood; you can see every ride at Kings Island popping out over the trees. I can't wait to hear the screams from Banshee next year!

  17. We arrived about at 10:45 AM and picked up fanofFirehawk, so he could get us parking. We arrived at the front gate and went straight on in. We first went to Backlot Stunt Coaster. Fun little ride, faster then it looks. Next was The Beast. Fun, as usual. After The Beast we decided to go on Diamondback. After riding Diamondback about 3 times, we decided to head to the Eiffel Tower. By now it was raining, so we took shelter in the Eiffel Tower. After this we had lunch, and we found it had stopped raining. After lunch we headed back to Diamondback, and it had started raining yet again. We marathoned Diamondback for about ten times. We headed over to Flight Deck, only to find out it was closed. After a short break, we headed yet again to Diamondback, we marathoned it until we reached about 15 rides today. It was STILL a walk on. We headed back over to Flight Deck, to see it was open again! When the train hit the brake run and stopped, we never started moving again, so we were stuck on the brake run. It only lasted about 2 minutes, which was good. By now it was about 3:30, so we marathoned Diamondback AGAIN, and got our ride count up to 21 rides in one day! My personal best! When we got off the 21'st time, we saw my sister and her friend telling us how late we were. fanofFirehawk made some new friends riding Diamondback, including his favorite ride-op, Eric. Diamondback was really stacking today. At one point, al three trains were stopped at once. Other than that, it was an ok job. Overall, I had a great time. Even with the rain, it didn't shut anything down besides Flight Deck. In fact, the rain was a good thing because is scared most people away from Diamondback. Also, Banshee is looking pretty good!

  19. I didn't initially think Banshee would be as visible as it is in the park, but I discovered today that it's fairly visible from any standpoint. You can see it from Planet Snoopy. Probably Rivertown, too, if you stand in the right spot. It absolutely towers over The Racer end of Coney Mall. I'm also really interested in the views from Adventure Express come next year. It looks like the zero-G and batwing will be really close to the turn through the orange frames (don't know what else to call them) on AE. Should offer a really neat perspective.

  20. I talked to lots of kids today. I was wearing jean shorts, a grean shirt with a shaved head and a goatee. Met lots of people today. One was a couple that was there for their 13th wedding anniversary so they were going to ride Diamondback 13 times in a row to celebrate. Rerides were a must on everything today! Had two kids in front of me on one run and one of them lost a handful of runts on the way up the lift hill. As we were dropping down the first hill, a Lime one seemed to flaot right down beside me. I tried to grab it but it was just out of reach.

  21. I find that most people rush through the houses. I try to look around while I'm inside. The easiest way to see the haunt attractions is to hang back and let the crowd ahead of you rush on through...It gives the monsters a break to get back into place and yes they will scare you...I also find that the KI haunts have very few distractors...(one monster distracting you while another scares you), this would lessen the conga line effect.

  22. Not in the house, but you can hear it when you're outside. Plus, when you're in your 70's, it can get pretty annoying...I guess. I can't wait to hear KI though. Plus, you can see the fireworks!

  24. I would participate, but A ) I will not be available when the finals are happening anyway and B ) I would be unable to enjoy a trip to Knott's for the same reason I was unable to enjoy Maverick. I like being able to SEE what I'm riding and they do not allow you to wear glasses on their coasters from what I've heard. The difference is that I was able to purchase a glasses strap and properly enjoy Maverick later.

  28. Autocorrect depends on your previous entries. Hypercoaster doesn't autocorrect here. And you must type pastry a bit. Sweet.

  29. I think you're confused. KI did at one point have a hypercoaster that would allow you to experience both roughness AND jackhammering. But it's gone now. On an unrelated note, the iPhone will apparently attempt to autocorrect "hypercoaster" to "hyper pastry."

  32. They definitely are letting too many people in on a few of them, particularly Urgent Scare and Club Blood, which do 13-14. I was in a group of three through Cavern of Terror tonight, and it's way better that way. The main thing is, try not to get stuck behind a group of girls. If you are, hang back as much as you can.

  39. I agree with too many per group. The monsters would scare the first few and then the rest of the group would see so the monsters would just wait for the next group. Also way too many rude teens last night. I also don't understand parents who were taking little kids in. I really was surprised to see little kids at the hot blooded and ed Alonzo shows. Overall though we had a good time and of course will be back soon.

  40. I like the real colors almost better. The photos taken from the entrance are a good indication of how this ride will look from the entrance. This is going to look great! I look forward to seeing it in person Saturday! I have only been able to see photos. I hope that it looks different than the photos though... On my computer it looks like a very similar red to Diamondback, and I was hoping for it to be closer to purple. I've heard that in person it is almost magenta. No complaints from me, magenta is my school color! (And rather unsurprisingly, people do not take our male athletics uniforms very seriously...)

  41. Went through Madame Fatale's and Club Blood this evening. Madame Fatale's, we all thought was good, my poor KIC shirt may never be the same from Mrs NoChickens death grip pulling on it, lol. Club Blood was lame. Backwoods Bayou was quite nice, again the shirt got a couple tugs. Edit: grammatical repairs

  43. The noise level of a bouncing basketball echoing off everything around the park is almost deafening. There are times you can't carry on a conversation with the person standing next to you because a basketball is being bounced. Also, I have seen those same basketballs wander from their owners and entangle under unsuspecting patrons feet. Now, that could cause some serious injuries. I'm not saying people shouldn't have fun - I like to shoot hoops too - but I just feel it's a bit overbearing on everybody for the pleasure of a few. You could always have inflating machines available at the front gates!
