Absolute WORST park-going experience of my life!
DeLorean Rider replied to IBEW_Sparky's topic in Trip Reports
I'm sorry but all the implications about the single rider line requirements are just ludicrous. The problem is that all anyone worry's about is what's best for them. It's ridiculous that people believe that being alone at the park is a requirement to use the single rider line. The park did not build a single rider line to reward those people who come alone or even those who are willing to split up. When it comes down to it the single rider line is not for guest benefit at all, it's for the park's benefit. Those guests are only there to fill the seats that would have otherwise been left empty. The only requirement, whether a group of 1 or 100 is that you must be willing to split up and go where ever the separator puts you. It is NOT meant to be a way for people to get on the ride faster, just because they're alone. If they do get on faster then just consider it a bonus. End of story. -
Why Disneyland?
DeLorean Rider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Another reason that they did it at Disneyland is because it's much easier for the Walt Disney Company to close Disneyland for a day (or at least charge $250 a ticket) than WDW. On a side note, did anyone else see the fireworks from that night. Brief as they were compared to other Disney fireworks shows, they were one of the most amazing displays of fireworks I have ever seen. That being said, I still believe that Disneyland's nightly fireworks show, "Remember, Dreams Come True," is the most amazing fireworks display ever put on by Disney. -
Is Disney Phoning It In?
DeLorean Rider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Correcting. Currently underway at WDW is: The complete overhaul of the Hall of Presidents. (I thought everybody knew this) Construction in Pixar place adding the interactive animatronic Luxo. Refurbishment of Space Mountain Refurbishment of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Stitch's Super Sonic Celebration in Tomorrowland Annual Star Wars Weekend's just began Paradiso 37 Resturant Star Tours II is currently in filming (here) four Seasons under construction Bay Lake Tower (hello?) The Sum of All Thrills by Raytheon in Innoventions East Refurbishment of the San Francisco facade Cat Cora's restaurant to replace Spoodles: Kouzzina Western Beltway Expansion Recently completed projects: Backlot Tour just came back from rehab Ellen's Universe of Energy just came back up from refurb Recent opening of the American Idol Experience (did everyone simply forget about this?) Recent overhaul of the Country Bear Jamboree Recent debut of the Kim Possible World Shocase Adventure (which is awesome btw) Two new parades at Magic Kingdom ("Celebrate a Dream Come True" and "Move it Shake it Celebrate it") The new (and very nice) Frontierland fry resturant (that no longer sells McDonalds frys :-) ) Completion of Spaceship Earth Descent The Jungle Cruise just went digital (big undertaking though guests would never know) The Great Piggy Bank Adventure in Innoventions Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney Kidani Village DVC at Animal Kingdom Lodge Among other things... -
Disney teaches a lot more than Tradition's. There are many things cast members have to continue to go through as they work for the company.

Which, according to Jeff Gramke, have zero effect on the speed of the train. He has clearly never run The Beast from 9am untill 1am. You'll definitely notice a difference. One of the scariest moments of my KI career was seeing the first empty train of the day leave the brake shed at 7, yes 7mph. Maintainence was in the drive box with me and several were convinced that we would be heading to the quick dip. There was one enormous sigh when we saw that train reach the bottom of lift 2. Why do you think that the park requires certain temperatures before opening rides? For fun? At the same time, another scary point was watching full trains hit the bottom of the first hill reaching 70. Yes it happens.
-
You know technically Xtreme Skyflyer isn't a flat ride, it's a sky coaster.
-
Indeed. Even still, if the train begins to hit about 32 exiting the brake shed, it's time to call maintainence just to let them know. When I worked on The Beast in 07, the brake shed was usually a consistant 29-30mph, and upper 50's to low 60's at the bottom of the first hill, and entering the helix. The variance there was typically due simply to train capacity, heat, time of day, etc.

I think you'd be quite surprised how many empty seats there are when seats are not assigned, even with a long line. I remember while working The Beast that per train there was probably 5 empty seats per train (often times more). (The person running the control panel has to press the empty seat counter so you become very aware of empty seats.) In an hour, The Beast gets 25 trains (as a very low average). Five empty seats per train is 125 people per hour. People act like without a separator there wont be that many empty seats but it's not true. You wouldn't believe how many times the average guest will simply leave rows empty without offering them to other guests, in order to ride in the same train as another part of their group. Empty rows add up VERY fast. That coupled with odd numbered groups; you're looking at a lot more empty seats than you would think. Think about the Italian Job. The Italian Job can get 60 tains per hour. On a ride that only holds 12 guests, when all the seats are not being filled, it's going to add up. Diamondback gets on average 41 trains per hour. If they have 5 empty seats per train, thats going to add up very quickly; especially in the long, hot lines of mid-July. In addition to the obvious capacity reasons, having a separator just keeps the station more pleasent. People aren't forced to stand elbow to elbow, and they still get on the ride faster than if the separator wasn't there. They're not pushing and shoving to get to the line they want, and they're not crowded by those people who couldn't just wait on the stairs for another minute. Plus, as stated, without a separator, there would be no way to facilitate a single rider line. Also, from my personal experienc at Kings Island, I cannot forsee any time where Kings Island would justify staffing a person at the entrance to the station to simply "pulse" the line. If the person is going to be there, they're going to be working, and they're going to be assigning seats. As people have stated before, the great majority of average guests do not care where they sit. For the few that really care about it, you can always ask the separator. The separator knows what they're doing; they're not idiots; they were trained for this job; they do this job everyday; they see a lot of situations; they know when they can and cannot grant requests. Like people have said, most times you will get your request, however in the event that it cannot be granted, remember, it's nothing personal, it's just because of the current situation.

Hmmm... I remember enjoying rides on Flight of Fear then they started stopping you at the mid course. I will say that that is ridiculous. Heck, we run the same number of trains as Joker's Jinx and they dont even have brakes installed at that point in the ride. It's simply a straight piece of track.

International St./Rivertown Pizza? No Larosas?
DeLorean Rider replied to Ki Man's topic in Kings Island
It's right next to the Papa John's. *Woosh* (hand going over head) -

Can anyone tell me where in the park I can find Pasquales Pizza? -
Actually, The Beast, without the trims is murder, pure murder, on the ride, itself. Thats why the trims are there. People just dont understand. As stated a million times, The Beast has always had trim brakes, always in the same locations. The Beast maintains the same speeds it always has, the only difference is that the magnetic trims are more abrupt than the old skid brakes. The magnetic trim brakes are the same brakes they've always been using, in the same locations. Beast1979, I'd like to know exactly what you're comparing your experience to as you were as you were likely 5 years old the last time that The Beast had skid brakes. Honestly, the reason it feels slower is likely due to the fact that the re-tracking has made the ride smoother, causing the ride to seem less out of control. At least when the ride is rough and you're bouncing around, it feel's like it's going faster. Exactly! This is a 30 year old ride. We have to take things like stresses, strain, wear, and tear into consideration if we expect the ride to last another 30 years.
-
What exactly makes you think that? Italian Job was built in in 2005 and aside from some very slow and understaffed days has always had a separator. Millennium Force built in 2000 still uses a separator. The Diamonback separator position will likely be staffed for a very long time as it improves capacity and keeps things flowing better.

I have quite a few pictures taken by me of the King Cobra track in the graveyard from 2005. They're around here somewhere. I may have to do some searching. Also there are quite a few trams parked back behind SOB. While driving through that area it reminds a person of the "elephant grave yard" from the lion king... only with trams...

Yea... I hate to say this, but you're about 2 years too late. Cedar Fair made it explicitly clear that all funcentive rewards points had to be used by around the beginning of full season 2007. In the end there was barely anything left, just like zoo tickets and such. I remember cashing in about 10000 points in the end for Dollywood tickets, Best Buy gift cards, gas cards, and more. The site used to be www.pki4fun.com but the address is no longer used any more. I know at the time you needed your employee ID number and your birthday.

I guess it goes back to the old "What defines a coaster type" debate. Is it simply based upon the material, or the actual experience associated with a material?
-
Why is that? They're not necessarily popping up all over the the place. Heck hybrid coasters are a lot more common that prefab wood. Also in the event that a prefabricated wood coaster surpassed The Beast's record, it would likely do so with an asterisk next to it's name due to the new category of coaster that creates. Kind of like Barry Bonds, lol.

Going to Dollywood any suggestions
DeLorean Rider replied to Beast79's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
FIRE IN THE HOLE! Agreed. Blazing Fury is incredible. Also Dolly Parton goes to Dollywood about 3 times a year for promotion things, maybe you'll get lucky . -
Where exactly do you expect said longest wooden roller coaster to go at KI? KI already had the opportunity to surpass The Beast with SOB. I say it's extremely unlikely.

Keep in mind, as far as I know, Guinness doesn't recognize Diadarasaurus in the length category as they simply took a Dueling coaster and connected the tracks to make one really long ride. In addition it's been SBNO since 07. Notice how they simply crossed over and under to connect the two tracks. Also as far as Bisby's Spiral Airship, I'll bet that was a huge deal in 1902. Just think, this is a year before Orville and Wilbur made history, this is a year before the first silent movie aired. If 60 years later Blue streak was a big deal, just think what that ride meant at the turn of the century.

Lets hear it for Ghoster Coaster!
-
Just for refrence this is the coaster grave yard. As you can see this shows the King Cobra track. Unfortunately this portion of google earth hasn't been updated since 2004. I'm pretty sure that between then and now, all the track has since been sold as scrap.

Amazing Ride.

I used to keep count of my rides but dont really keep track of which coasters. Last time I counted it was around 150 coasters. Couldn't this thread be simplified to just what parks have you been to. From there most could assume you have ridden all the coasters within the park. Otherwise this thread could get pretty long.
