Kings Island 2017 Discussion Thread

I don't know what KI's policy is for DA in inclement weather however I suspect they close it if there is an electrical storm. In my various BSA training programs we are taught to stay away from trees if possible. It is safest to spread the group out and crouch down in an open area if possible. -
Island Smokehouse now open at Soak City

I tried the pulled pork wouthout a bun or sauce, coleslaw and corn bread pudding yesterday. The pulled pork was good, not shredded to finely and had a decent but very subtle smoke flavor. The slaw was generic, rather plain and a bit disappointing, but the cornbread pudding was awesome! It is not on my diet plan and my intention was to just have a couple of bites, but that didn't work out to well. Good stuff, but was likely loaded with sugar. Also of note the Drink Plan Express Line signage was taken down and a trash can put in the isle to block it. You could still use the Freestyle machines but you had to wait in the whole food line to use it. The cashier had no information on why and could only say it was a management decision. -
I heard the same thing at one point but can't provide a source. A nice cold refreshing soda is not exactly what I am interested in when is 25F however. This past HITP SFSTL sold a $7-8 bottomless daily travel mug for hot chocolate that I thought was very reasonable and nearly everyone had one. I imagine KI would have something similar.
-
I haven't seen it open yet. The only drink stations open yesterday were the Freestyle by Hanks, ET and DBack refresh stations, all others closed. Fortunately most of the food lines were reasonable so it wasn't as huge a problem as it normally is.

Wow, KI appears to be going all out on this. Really looking forward to it.

^ See I would say something like, "The 5 year survival rate is the best in the industry. Enjoy your ride!" This is why I have never been a ride op and never will be.

^^ Mr. T will be dead to me if they do that. But I suppose I could survive with some preemptive ibuprofen.

If you asked me Tuesday I would say inversions. Yesterday was my first time of Banshee and Diamondback as well (I finally fit). Now I am not so sure. I am 3 weeks into recovering from a severely sprained ankle so my legs are weak and they kind of hurt on Banshee from what felt like all the blood rushing to them. But that smooth air on Diamondback! Just wow. It's kind of like choosing between spare ribs and filet mignon or blondes and redheads.

^ The pop up nature of the storms really worked to our advantage yesterday and sound like it might be similar today. We were able to spend from 12-2 at SC then eat and wait out the rain in the car until a bit after 3, then hit the dry park. It was by no means "dead" but wait times were a few trains at most except for Mr. T and Dback. Firehawk and FoF were walk on. Food lines were very reasonable except Rivertown and Festhaus LaRosas and they were moving extremely slow due to lack of product. Those need some work.

That is pretty much the case for the pulled pork as they are on a 12 hr cooking plan. Smoking chicken for less than an hour is not going to produce much flavor. -

I believe you are correct. Sometime I forget not everyone on here has some sort of pass. -

How about the brisket? When I was there a couple of weeks ago it wasn't even on the menu although if you asked for it you could get it on the meal plan. -

Why? Never been on a woodie backwards, is the experience bad or just technical issue like cost? -

If you want to get soaked at on WWC just make some arrangements with @Thrill_Biscuit I am sure he will be more than happy to accommodate. Also new this year the All Season drink plan has the option for disposable cups every 15 minutes vs the souvenir cup. If you already have the cup there is a $3 charge to switch plans. -
When did the subject change to brasiers?

Anybody know if this new lunch option is on the All Season Meal Plan?

Well you can at least take solace in the likelihood that bugger died. -

Not sure about KI but CP has that system for restroom complaints. Shouldn't be hard to expand it. Really easy these days to snap a pic of violations and text them over for easy identification. -

There was no passholder discount on lockers last season in SC. -
Silver do you have the drink plan? One thing I have noticed it is much, much, much easier to get a convenient and quick drink refill at CP than KI (dry side). SC at KI is fine.

We were up there yesterday afternoon and the mayflies were not horrible but they were there. They actually seemed to be worse when sitting under an umbrella to eat or rest than on any rides. When I was dropping off my lunch bag at First Aid someone was being brought in with a "bug in the eye". Even if it isn't super sunny I have starting to make sure I have my sun glasses on while on a ride. Even though though the odds of getting one smacked in your eye is low if it does happen your day is kind of ruined plus could make the drive home rather difficult if not impossible. Yesterday really got me thinking about that and I should come up with a solution for night rides as well. Would really hate to call my wife at 10PM to tell her she needs to make a 4 1/2 round trip drive to come pick up the the boys and I or have to fork over several hundred dollars on a last minute hotel room. -
Spend some time on the various state transportation sites to find out about construction. Even simple resurfacing can be a pain. I got nabbed yesterday going up to CP. Route 4 was closed in Attica and although there was a detour there it was incomplete because it did not direct back north so I had to pull over and just guess at it.
