World`s of Fun`s water park, Ocean`s of Fun, used to be a separately gated water park as well. It was not included with park admission. Then several years ago, they combined it with the main park, so it is similar in set up to Kings Island now.

That likely is because nothing further has been filed. It takes time to design things and complete engineering on things. Rome wasn`t made in a day.

Sea World San Diego 2020
CoastersRZ replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, keep in mind that the notion with SEAS parks recently was that they had been skimping on capital investments, and that coupled with the blackfish documentary is part of why they had attendance woes. -
According to Warren County, it is owned by the County. It looks like, per the Recorder`s office, that it is related to when Kings Island was annexed by the City of Mason. The park used to be part of Deerfield Township. I know land ownership has lots of little quirks associated with it. For example, per Ohio Building Code, if you own two adjoining parcels of property, you cannot build a building that straddles the property line that is shared by both properties. You must consolidate the parcels into one parcel in order to build the building. A new building cannot be located on two parcels.

Firehawk Leaving Kings Island 10/28/18
CoastersRZ replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Its not just the EPA. The Little Miami River is a State and National Scenic River. I am sure that carries its own set of regulations. I for one do not think that the park needs any kind of records. Records can be over rated. I can have a ton of fun riding the Tornado at Stricker`s Grove, which has no records. A coaster does not need to have one of the superlatives (tallest, fastest, longest, steepest, etc.) to be a fun ride. Case in point: Mystic Timbers. Not a record breaking coaster, but a fun ride. -
Firehawk Leaving Kings Island 10/28/18

When you get down by the Little Miami River, you run into a lot of environmental issues. I doubt any coaster will get close to that river. This rumored coaster or any future coaster that Kings Island may install. -

ACE Coaster Landmark is not to be confused with an ACE Coaster Classic. A Coaster Landmark is a coaster that has had a significant contribution to the history of coasters. Upgrades and/or extensive maintenance do not jeopardize that. The Beast is also considered an ACE Coaster Landmark. Woodstock Express at Kings Island used to be an ACE Coaster Classic. Cincinnati area coaster enthusiasts can still experience an ACE Coaster Classic at Stricker`s Grove on the Teddy Bear, which was based on the coaster of the same name from Coney Island. From the ACE website (ACE Coaster Classic) An ACE coaster classic is defined as follows: An ACE Coaster Classic is about a traditional experience. One that has been shared by generations of thrill seekers since the golden age of the 1920s when the wild, uninhibited, free wheeling thrills of the wooden coaster established it as the premier thrill ride and an icon of popular culture. The concept of ACE Coaster Classics was developed during a period when changes in the design, equipping, and operation of wood coasters threatened to erase these time-honored experiences and rituals. ACE awards ACE Coaster Classic status to coasters that still adhere to these principles that allow riders to safely experience the thrill of the classic wooden roller coaster ride. To be eligible for ACE Coaster Classic status, the coaster must meet the following criteria: The coaster must use traditional lap bars that allow riders to experience so-called airtime, or negative G's (that sensation of floating above the seat!). Individual, ratcheting lap bars do not meet this requirement. ACE Coaster Classics allow riders to slide from side-to-side. A coaster with any restraint or device that restricts this freedom is not eligible for ACE Coaster Classic status. ACE Coaster Classics allow riders to view the upcoming drops and thrills. Coasters with headrests on every seat, or the majority of seats, restrict this view and are not eligible for ACE Coaster Classic status. On ACE Coaster Classics, riders are free to choose where they sit. Some parks' operating procedures assign seating; these coasters are not eligible for ACE Coaster Classic status.

I have never heard that Carowinds was supposed to get the Intaming Giga that KD got. I also find Carowinds to be worth a trip without Fury 325. I still have not gotten down there since it was built, but have been to Carowinds numerous times (I went there back in 2001 for the first time). Same goes for Kings Dominion. I305 is not the only reason people go to that park. Volcano is a really unique and fun coaster. In the amusement park business, the parks have to invest in new things every year (or every couple of years) in order to keep guests coming back (to sustain current levels of attendance). There are a LOT of other options for families to spend their entertainment money. Parks have to keep their product fresh to give guests a reason to keep coming back. And with pass holders, they create festivals and events (like the Snoopy Celebration) to give a sense of urgency and a reason to make repeat visits with the chances that they may spend additional money on merchandise, games, and food.

Well, keep in mind that GCI was also rebuilding large sections of Thunder Road each season before it finally met the wrecking ball to make room for Carolina Harbour water park. Not saying that Racer will meet the same fate, but just because a ride is refurbished doesn`t necessarily mean it will be here for years to come. See King Cobra that was repainted for the Action Zone conversion in 1999, and was dismantled at the beginning of the 2002 season. I do not think the same thing will happen to Racer. It is too iconic of a ride.

Just because B&M is listed, doesn`t mean that there is a new coaster. They could be doing work on Banshee/Diamondback... Just throwing that out there.
-
Likely they didn`t announce it separate as it is part of yearly off season maintenance as the article indicates. They always retrack portions of the coasters every off season. I do admit that this looks like a bit more than their typical retracking. Glad to see the Racer getting some TLC.

Future plans for Firehawk's station discussion

Storm Chaser only has one side to load from since it received its Rocky Mountain conversion (it used to be two separate coasters). I think you might be thinking of Storm Runner at Hershey (the Intamin launch coaster), that when I rode it back in 2011 was utilizing both sides for loading the trains. -

Christmas Nights of Lights- Coney Island

The river stayed within its banks and did not affect Christmas Nights of Lights. -
Here is an article from the Cincinnati Business Courier discussing the contractor building the Antique Car Buildings: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/12/19/cincinnati-contractor-helps-bring-antique-cars.html The article mentions TRA Design as the architect, Cole Engineering Solutions as the structural engineer and SHP as the mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineer on the project. Here is a link to the TRA Design website. And some of their recent entertainment related projects. It must be really cool to work at that firm and to be able to work on some of those projects. http://tra-design.net/team/

I believe the number that the park has used is "more than 5 million". I admit that the lights are impressive. There are a few areas that I feel could use some work and additional lights (Planet Snoopy and the Twelve Days of Christmas come to mind). As far as the number of rides goes, I agree with Ryan that the point of Winterfest is more about the overall atmosphere and entertainment than riding rides. It is not just about riding rides in the cold. It is the whole park atmosphere that is amazing at Winterfest. I have been to Winterfest five times this year so far, and have only been on Mystic Timbers twice and zero times on Flight of Fear. There is just so much to see and do, and it isn`t about the rides. I give KI huge props to the amount of characters they have out and the live entertainment offerings. That is part of what makes Winterfest amazing. I haven`t been to any Six Flags` Holiday in the Park, but I doubt they compare to Kings Island`s Winterfest.

Future plans for Firehawk's station discussion
CoastersRZ replied to Codyfryguy's topic in Kings Island
Sure, anything is possible, for a price. Coaster stations generally aren`t set up to be converted into restrooms. While there likely is a water supply out to the building (for hose bibbs), there very likely is no sanitary line out to the building. Depending how close the nearest sanitary line is, it might not be feasible to extend it out. By the time all is said and done, if a restroom is planned in that area, it would likely be cheaper to build a new one from scratch verses trying to convert a building (coaster station or otherwise) into restrooms. I agree that it would be nice to have restrooms back by Flight of Fear. Hopefully, a set of restrooms is included with any future improvements in that area. -
I suppose it would be possible. Whether GCI would approve it, is another question. I know that they did release a new version of their trains at IAAPA this year. Keep in mind that rolling stock on coasters is very expensive. And since PTC is still in business and providing parts, the park likely does not have a reason to replace the trains.
-
But if they went with Millennium Flyers, the capacity would suffer. I think they max out at twelve cars, which would be 24 riders per train. Currently Beast has 36 people per train. That is a pretty significant reduction in capacity.

Rare Vintage Photos of Coney Island's Early Steamboat Crews

Ask and you shall receive: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2016/05/06/slated-to-become-two-hotels-fourth-and-walnut.html Fourth and Walnut street. The Daniel Burnam designed building is still standing today. -
When they had the Nickelodeon Celebration Parade back in 2005 and 2006 as well as the Winterfest Parade back in 2005, the parade started in the back of house area in Planet Snoopy. It continued past the blue ice cream stand, in front of the family care station/Chik Fil A, on the front side of the Eiffel Tower, past the funnel cake building, into Coney Mall (on the Subway side) and exited the park midways at the gate behind Zephyr. I would imagine if a parade ever returns, that it will take a similar route through the park.

We are talking about the entrance right by Magnum correct? That was completely reconstructed last year (2017) as part of the Cedar Point Shores project. Below is an image of the resort entrance I am referring to. Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/ITvUy
