  1. That person was technically breaking the law by spitting over the side, which is why they were likely being removed from the platform, and potentially the park. It is against Ohio Revised Code to disobey any written or verbal rule on amusement rides in the state (Section 1711.551). At Coney, I have had security remove people from the park after they have threatened to beat up one of our operators for not letting their kid on the ride who was too short.
  2. What I find kind of surprising is it looks like there will not be a show in the Festhaus in pre-season. Hasn`t there typically been one of the two shows in there going on opening weekend (unless I missed something).
  3. Fortunately, at 49.2 feet, most of the park should be fine. Flood stage is 52', although the filter building starts flooding at 47'. It has to get up to nearly 54 or 55' to start impacting the rides office/administration building. Hopefully things start to dry out here and we can get several days without rain. I know that my backyard has been a swampy mess for weeks now.
  4. The Belterra Park property is completely separate from Coney. Coney does not make any money off of Belterra Park. Coney does operate the concessions at Riverbend Music Center (which is actually owned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), and does get revenue from that. Coney also received revenue for parking from Riverbend, since Riverbend utilizes Coney`s lots for parking. Every ticket to Riverbend has a "building and parking use" fee. That is the parking fee that Coney collects, so that they can speed up parking on the day of the concert.
  5. Maverick44, check out the last line from my original post...

  7. If this kind of thing was happening on this ride, just think of other incidents that might have happened on other rides at that park that have been suppressed...
  8. So much of preview night also depends on weather. Spring in Cincinnati can be a bit of a wild card. I mean, we had a couple inches of snow on the first day of spring this year, and they are calling for 3-5 inches of snow tomorrow here in Cincinnati. Normal high temperature this time of year is 55 degrees.
  9. Ask and you shall receive: The Lost Airport of Lebanon
  10. Yes, this is a traveling Ferris Wheel. However, when it is at Coney, it will be staffed by Coney ride operators.
  11. I am very excited for this news. I wish that this was staying all summer long. It will certainly be quite the site, and offer some really unique views. I think the admission price is also very fair.
  12. Whatever it is (and I do not know, I only knew something was coming), the park just posted that the announcement will be tomorrow for it!
  13. View from Newest Attraction Per Coney`s Facebook page this morning.
  14. I actually just saw this video for the first time on Friday. This does have some awesome footage. You can actually see several of the buildings that are still standing at Coney to this day. Obviously, some of the rides like the log flume have been relocated to Kings Island.
  15. They added those lights during Haunt last year.
  16. http://coneyislandcentral.com/history/ I have received some great historical pictures from Coney in September of 1971, right before the park closed. These photos are courtesy of Paul Adams, and include many shots/angles that I have never seen before.
  17. Typically, media day invites are reserved for working media news organizations (newspapers, radio stations, television stations). They are meant as a way to promote the new shiny attraction. There is not always a media day event every year for parks. When there is a media day, they are by invite only.
  18. Yes, fortunately it happened now, before the ride mechanics had started to put all the rides back together. Back in 2011, it flooded at the end of April, and we had to cancel our ride operator trainings, and the Appalachian Festival, which is typically the first weekend the ride are open at Coney (Mother`s day weekend), due to a late spring flood.
  19. Yes, this flood was not as bad as 1997. The park was inundated with water though. In the last flood that hit Coney, in 2015, there was about a foot of water. This flood likely had nearly four feet of water in the rides office. I haven`t been at the park since the flood waters have receded. I do know that the clean up process is already well underway.
  20. Supposed to get a big coaster according to whom? The Ghost Town area of Knott`s is a wonderful area. Removing that area would be an awful decision. Its amazing how little some of the smaller parks in the chain contributed to the overall attendance/EBITDA. It also means that a bad year at Cedar Point and Knott`s would hurt the company more than a bad year at Worlds of Fun and Valleyfair.
  21. It would be interesting to see if Cedar Fair attempted to purchase some (or all) of Sea World Entertainment properties. I could see Cedar Fair being interested in Busch Gardens Tampa (Cedar Fair does not have any Florida operations and it would not contain the negative PR that is associated with the Sea World parks). Not sure CF would be interested in Busch Gardens Williamsburg, given its proximity to Kings Dominion. I don`t think Cedar Fair would purchase all of Sea World parks. But then again, many thought that Cedar Fair wouldn`t be purchasing all of Paramount Parks back when they did just that.
  22. I think the first few seasons, pass holders received about a 50% discount, but they still had to pay for it. I want to say it was like $3 per passholder or something similar.
  23. I think it could be argued that the writing was on the wall for the impending extinction (eventually) of the attraction once they opened it for free to gold and platinum pass holders.
  24. And said poster is sorely missed. Great American Scream Machine, a John Allen designed wooden coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia will be running backwards this year. It features three bench PTC trains not unlike the Racer (although it only has four cars per train, while The Racer features five cars per train). Great American Scream Machine
