Firehawk Leaving Kings Island 10/28/18
lifetimecoaster replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
My sentiments exactly! Last time I was there I rode it and it made me very nauseous. Said the same thing "I don't know that I'll ever ride that coaster again!" -
And sadly, Afterburner disappeared in February of last year, and no one knows where it went.

I literally just came here to type this exact same question. Would be pretty neat to have a webcam available to watch the deconstruction of the ride. -

Dang y'all, we're the "coaster community"!! I somehow feel like I'm in a special club. A secret society as it were. -
As per usual, I will certainly take your information over some anecdotal story I've read in the dark corners of the internet!

Shaggy, your history knowledge of the park may be able to dispel a rumor that I once heard about Screamin' Demon in that it was a similar situation where Kings Island has wanted to build said coaster, and during the process decided not to go through with it, so their actual coaster went elsewhere, and ended its life in Angola Indiana as Afterburner, and somewhere in that stretch of time, KI ended up actually buying what would be known as Screamin' Demon from another park... Not sure the validity, but it was a neat story when I read it...

I feel like it's a hint, but at the same time, none of the hashtags aligned with anything that actually happened. -

No official word, however speculation says it's been sold to Kentucky Kingdom. The process of removal will probably be telling as to what happens from here. -

Pfew.... That's not one I'll miss too tremendously. Certainly is a good thing in my mind. -
It's not 10 yet!!

More clues just hit Facebook.... RMCing The Beast is also on my list of possibilities. -
Kings Island Confirms removal of Coaster
lifetimecoaster replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I'm still on the literally anything but Vortex team here. If that coaster leaves, there is a strong possibility that there will be more years between current date, and the next time I spend money at KI again. I have a daughter that really wants to ride one of the loopers, and she's getting ever closer to 48 inches now. We're probably next summer that she can do it, and I'm sure the heck not going to take my kids to KI again, after her knowing that she just has to be 48 inches to ride a looper, and then having to tell her she can't now because they took out the only one she can ride. -
So the confirmation has been confirmed that the confirmation of which coaster is going away will be confirmed tomorrow?

PR people playing into the mystery would be my guess. What fun is having a mysterious set up like this if your PR people aren't playing along?

I want to do a Haunt sometime. It's tough for me to drive the 2 hours over there to hang out though, because other than the rides, we have a phenomenal experience about 25 minutes up 69 from me. I am a haunt nut, and love looking at the production quality of the set ups.

That is another good point there. The paint on Firehawk is getting terrible, and I would think that with how bad it is getting, it would get some form of priority.
-
No doubt. I'm not in the loop on theme park business, so I'm not sure if when someone buys a ride from someone, they pay removal and shipping or how that works.
-
Further more, the removal of any ride costs money, and if they're trying to save money, then paying millions to remove a ride would not be a good way of doing it. Shutting down a ride for a season on the other hand, would cut costs.

I had heard a rumor that Cedar Fair was getting rid of those boomerang style coasters at one point. I'm not sure that there's an ounce of weight to that claim however, because the internet was invented, by Al Gore, to be a collection of misinformation.

Since Firehawk is the topic of choice lately in this thread, I'll toss my .02 on it.... I am not a fan. For some odd reason it makes me queasy to ride.

You're not wrong for having those thoughts and opinions of this time of year. Totally understandable. My opinion on the matter is that we are becoming more and more desensitized every year to the evils of the world because we are indeed seeing the evils of the world daily. For me, any my reasoning behind enjoying a good haunted house, or haunt like this, is that I really like looking at the production. Jump scares do literally nothing for me. I will walk into a haunted house, walk around slowly, take in all of the elements, and chuckle with the actors as they attempt to frighten me with jump scares and ridiculous antics that they pull. The "full experience" houses I visit where you subject yourself to being touched, pulled away from your group, and put into different areas are fun for me, again, because the amount of effort and production that goes into that is very interesting. I've not been in a situation in any one of these houses that has made me uncomfortable, scared, or frightened. Talk about desensitized!! I think I'm approaching a point where, just like with coasters, I'm probably going to start traveling to find new experiences, or new things that may actually make me scared or uncomfortable. There are 2 experiences in the US that come to mind that I want to try. Strong trigger warning for both of these houses, but if you want to see the level of screwed up I've become, Google McKamey Manor, and Blackout in New York....

I must say, that is some very impressive work. I also like your ideas. Would make for great updates to that area of the park, while also bringing it back to it's once old glory.

You are not wrong. See the hard part of all of this is, in the theme park business, spending money to make money is more important than in a lot of other businesses. You can remain pretty stagnant for 15 or 20 years and do very well in the restaurant industry, but not so much with theme parks. The giga coaster that all of us coaster people want to see is going to cost real money. To make that money, you have to get people in the gate, and not everyone goes to a theme park for coasters. (I know, it shocks me too.) Getting those flat rides out there, keeping scenery and themes updated and looking fresh year over year, and the food options are what brings in the guests that aren't there for a day of ramrodding as many coaster laps in as possible in the gate. As much as thrill rides are what's up for a lot of us, the 'Tiques are going to be a big lure for those folks that want to experience theme park rides, but can't handle the whipping, spinning, looping, screams.

Kings Mills Antique Autos Path Discussion
lifetimecoaster replied to sixohdieselrage's topic in Coming Attractions
Does anyone else still to this day remember the smell of the exhaust from those cars? For some odd reason, it's still fresh in my nose to this day. -
I am one of those fortunate enough to have ridden every iteration of SOB. It was very thrilling on the first ride I ever took on it. After the loop removal, it was just another high speed woodie. I still rode it often though, because it was an experience that I hadn't had on any other woodie in my life. It was really fast. Other than it was really fast, I can't say post loop, it was anything to be super excited about though.
