  1. I think when it comes to rides and operating temperature ranges, it not so much the motors that have a problem, because electric motors should run better when it is colder out, because they won't overheat. I think it is more of an expansion contraction thing with the metal the ride is made of. I don't know the exact amount a ride contracts and expands, but like eeverything else on the face of the earth, warm items expand while colder items shrink (I feel like a science teacher!). I think these expansions are why the rides are given operating temperature ranges.
  2. So there is more leg room in a back row as compared to the front? One would think just the opposite to be true. On SOB, I have to ride in the front of a car, to get enough leg room.
  3. Is the VIP night, or season pass preview night? weren't there two nights last year? I think one was in April, because it was still chilly, and the other in May, because I remember it being much warmer? Can anyone help me out on this one?
  4. For me to get on to SOB, I have to cross my legs before I sit down, and then just barely, I can get the lap bar over my knees, and down to hold me in, though I doubt there is any way for me to fall out. On FoF I am willing to ride with my legs crossed, but one week the ride ops let me, and the next they woudl not. They told me some mumbo jumbo about safety. Go figure! If they are gonna do things like that, I think it should at least be standard all the time, and I think it would be cool if PKI put in test cars for all their major rides, not just TR:TR.
  5. I don;t think it is fair, that PKI changes rides so that we all cannot fit on them. I know many of you still fit, on FoF, but I cannot anymore due to the changes made in the ride. Thats it, I have said my peace and although I do not agree with the changes made, I guess there isn't any going back to the way things were. I hope PKI's next coaster is something I can fit on, and enjoy riding.
  6. I'm thinking that we probably won't see Delirium swinging, until we get within its operational temperature range. Everything has an operational temperature range. While I do think the ride will open on time, I doub't we will see it swinging with a temperature below say 40 degrees or so.
  7. Actually, they would ahve to fully assemble it, and bolt it down as hard as if it were permanent. Not doing this, on a ride that is a pendulum, woule cause rocking in the bases, and eventually the ride would tear itself apart. I am sure they poured the footers before constructing it, as engineers make tolerances for rides, and PKI poured their footers well in advance of Delirium showing up. Concrete only needs 30 days to cure to 100% strength. It gets about 70% of its strength in the first 10 days after being poured.
  8. I'm thinking you are right. That is our Delirium on what looks like a testing ground, maybe at Huss in Germany, before itr was shipped over here. Both videos are cool, as you can see how the ride will look while you are on it, or walking by it. Maybe this item needs to be moved, to its own separate post, so everyone can see the awesome video clips.
  9. Yeah on the Land of the Giants, but I am guessing that PKI will try to get Huss to build or design a Giant Topple Tower. Instaed of 36 make it hold 72, and make it just a little taller than 53 feet. about 75 or 100 would be perfect. I'm sure Huss coudl do it, if they wanted to.
  10. Could be, but on the other hand (playing devils advocate), Cincy hasn't seen this much snow in one winter in sevearl years. One can only hope PKI took winter into account when building these rides.
  11. Thats what I thought it had said, so the junk about brain damage and restraints is total Bull. How in the world would a coaster wioth problems like that ever exist, with OSHA being everyone's big brother and keeping a good eye out for everything that goes on.
  12. Um yeah, it really seems like golbal warming is working. lets see, this is an El Nino Winter, and it sure has been dry this winter like very other El Nino Winter................NOT! our total snow accumulation is around 18-20 inches so far this winter, which is 4 inches higher than normal. I am complaining, I want a huge snowstorm with about a foot and a half to two feet of snow. Who cares if it slows contruction? Summer will get here eventually, and the rides will bec finished. We have 62 days til the park opens, still a bunch of winter left for 62 more days!
  13. Get over it. Scooby Doo draws crowds and that is what the park is all about. I think Scobby will be lots of fun, because in all honesty, it will be one of the longest rides in the park, and it will also be the only shooting gmae in the park, that is included with the price of admission. Nothing like a ride that is also a game, and an entertaining one at that.
  14. Jump 2 would be quite awesome and get us closer to that land of the giants. I hope PKie ventually does get one of every giant ride Huss makes, and gives us one complete set of Huss fun.
  15. That depends. The inside of Scobby might not be slowed by the weather, but the outside sure could be, which coudl delay the ride. They can't do metal work, whene verything is covered in ice and snow, and you can't pour concrete if it is too cold outside. I think they probably thought about this, and built in some snow days, but overall we have seen tons more snow this winter, as compared to past winters. I just hope these factors haven't set the ride back too much or at all. The inside may be done, but without an entrance and an exit, the inside is pretty much useless!
  16. The alst major blizzard to hit cincy was 1979. Ohio river froze solid, and like 4 days of snow. The last major snowstorm we got, was in 1998. It snowed for almost 2 and a half days straight, and we received 18.5 inches of accumulation. I would say, we are long overdue for a major snowfall, that could come in the form of a storm or even a blizzard. They are already calling for snow at least half the nights next week.
  17. Fitting in a roller caoster has to deal with, how long certain parts of you are. I am 6'6" with legs that are quite long, thus why I am not able to get them under the FoF lapbar. The brains damage from bad restraints thing is Bull as far as I am concerned. Wasn't it Six Flags who just did a major study invloving, coasters, and had doctors and even astronauts say that, coasters exert forces on you, that are so short, and so quick, that they might even be healthy? Also soemthing along the lines of even the fastest coasters exert much less force than that of what an astronaut experiences during liftoff? Anyone remember hearing this, or reading the report? I can;t imagine one ride being able to give you brain damage in any way, especially from ride restraints.
  18. I think The Beast is better. SOB needs moire time to make its niche, and settle in, with a bit smoother ride, and a bunch more trees around it, so it is more exciting. I just think at this point in time, Beast is better than SOB. A little time in, and both coasters will be great classic woodies.
  19. The word blizzard has been mentioned for the February outlook my some meteorologists. others are saying, we are still gonna have a cold February, and that more storms are to come. I don;t think winter in Cincy is anywhere near over, by a longshot.
  20. Vortex is just fine the way it is. I have never gotten a headache from riding it. I woudl rather they keep the OTSR's than the lap bars, otherwise, this would just be another coaster, that PKI got stupid with, and I wouldn't be able to fit on. I'm 6'6" and due to PKI's poor idea to change to FoF, I don't fit on it anymore. Leave rides the way they are, and things will be great!
  21. I think the new Paramount Logo looks good. Their old logo of the stars and the mountain has been around for years, and as they say, change is good. I think changing of the log was long overdue and now looks great. It gives Paramount that updated look, of something new and hip, which needs to happen from time to time.
  22. That would make sense in the case of Congo. If you shut down the pumps, the water stops moving, and has no place to end up, but in the pool at the bottom where the station is. I'll bet that will get people out of line quite quickly, when they see the water level raising very quickly!
  23. Usdually E-stops require some kind of manual lock out for anything that moves. It may be a brake that stops the ride, and then locks down, but there is definitely something that will lock the arm in the vertical position in an emergency, and keep it from moving at all.
  24. I think they should throw in some more msuic videos, some more park facts, and some more speakers in every ride that has a long line, so even if you can't see the TV you can hear the sound. Playing the movie Top Gun @ Top Gun would be pretty cool too, if they played the whole thing, all the way through several times daily.
  25. I have never seen any ride that did not have some type of emergency and redundant positive locking device. I 'm guessing if we can't see one, then they are all probably located in the top of the ride.
