  1. I remember when wer first rode TR. They took all our stuff and held it until we got off the ride. The bags then had velcro and little plastic clips, which apparently didn't work like they had hoped. Next time we rode it, they weren't accepting anything, and there were zippered bags on the seatbacks. I am happy that you can noe carry a cell phone and stuff, and don't have to worry about storing it in a locker.
  2. yeah, but what kind of woodie is that, if it doesn't have that standard woodie rattle? I still like it, and the fact that it is smoother than it used to be. I just hope they do something about the cars in the trains. Get rid of those stupid floor slants, and give me a few more inches of leg room!
  3. I would say we will probably see a few changes in the ride this season. Especially with the fact that there is a new Tomb Raider movie due out in 2003, and that they could even add a few more effects and lengthen the ride a bit. I'll bet there is a new teaser flick in the Ante Chamber, with scenes from the last Tomb Raider, as well as the new one.
  4. Yeah you are right, but that is only on three days. I can understand July 3rd and 4th being on there, but what about July 12th? Is there some unknown holdiay that I am missing? I remember two days last season when the park was at capactiy, and they kept the park open til like 1 a.m. just because it was full.
  5. I really enjoyed it. We never waited longer than 20 minutes to get on Tomb Raider all season long. The best days to ride it were Mondays and Wednesdays, which for some eason, you could walk onto almost any ride in the park. it was great.
  6. That grey stuff kinda looks like the encolsed ladder that runs through the metal like tube, for getting to the tops of rides. Most ladders are enclosed, then you don't have to worry about people falling, and they are protected while climbing. Don't know for sure though, they could be structural members for something else.
  7. It goes by so fast, that I never noticed the wood bolted onto the steel loop. I will have to look for that next season.
  8. Those pics are cool. If I didn't live so far away, I would be up for zipping by there and getting a look for myself. Post again when you get some more. Eventually, I am sure there won;t be a problem with seeing the "top" of Delirium.
  9. Yeah, SOB is rough while papa is smooth for all intensive purposes. I am sure that there is some percentage of wood a coster must be in order to be considered a Woodie. With all the wood in SOB they can afford to have a stell loop and still be considered a Woodie. Not to mention, building a steel and wooden loop would have been very difficult and expensive, if not an impossible task to perform. Wood wasn't designed to bend like that.
  10. I remember season passholder night as well as VIP night, but they were like a month apart. One was in April and the other in May. Oh well, april is only 3 months away. Can't wait !!!!
  11. One can only hope these improvements that are not rides, are major aesthetic improvements. Getting rid of a bunch of the blacktop and installing pavers in different patterns for PKi themes, would be a neat place to start. Still, updating areas of the park, as well as renovating them and making them look awesome would help too.
  12. Now back on topic. Even if marketing managers do not have to work on rides, think of all the publicity stuff they have to do, and also all the unneccessary emails people send to them. Obvciously, they just aren;t gonna come out and tell someone some intricate details about the next season, face it they are marketing managers. I also think its impressive staying upbeat like that, especially since media people can be complete buttholes sometimes.
  13. The Eiffel Tower is pretty close to HBL and the rear of the building that Scobby Doo is housed in. My bet is that truck had some other items on it as well, and that spot has what it takes to hold that much weight, as well a central location for unloading numerous items.
  14. This attraction is gonna kick some butt. I particularly like the pic of the Semi in front of the Eiffel Tower. Thats not something you see at PKI everyday.
  15. Is it just me, or is this a first for PKI having the park open weekends in April? I don't remember this happening last year, I just remember some days in May.
  16. With any luck, all the falling apart and shoddy looking stuff will get major rehab work, and everything will look awesome when the park opens.
  17. The cost of polyurethane is actually a bunch more than fiberglass, especially in the form of car parts and accessories. In general the cost of urethane can range anywhere from 50% to 100% or more than the cost of fiberglass. Not to mention, I don't even know if there are any coasters around that use it. I think fiberglass is probably what they'll stick with since they know of its properties, and as long as it stays in one piece, and doesn't splinter off, things are fine.
  18. They way things should be judged and the way things are judged are two different things. Chances are, that Guiness will measure it the easiest way possible, which is tower height. If you read through most of the records, it lists them by overall height, not drop height or how fast it drops. Obviously, the only factors in in dropping would be acceleration, and the force of gravity. A few more feet of drop, isn't going to make it go that much faster. heck it probably wouldn;t even be noticeable to anyone that rides it.
  19. Actually, I found that out last night when I went looking for them. Anyways, for those that don't know, the pics didn't show much, just some things behind fences and weeds covered in tarps. You couldn't really tell where on the track the accident occurred. I was trying to figure out what supports you are looking through though, in the one picture.
  20. I was at a bookstore the other day and happened to pick up a copy of Guiness 2003, and flip through part of it. The part about coasters and length we are definitely in there for. I am not 100% sure, but I thought I also read about DZ being the tallest drop ride around. Don't quote me on this, cause I'm not 100% sure.
  21. Whether Magnetic or friction, every braking system on every caoster out there uses magnets to tell when to activate. There are magnetic proximity switches mounted near the brakes. Those are the little green boxes you see. Each has a magnetic senor in it,, and can tell when metal passes in front of it, thus realying to the computer, and telling the brakes when to activate.
  22. PKI guide used to have a link to them posted on their site. Check there and you might get lucky and find them again. I can believe the part about killing the fiberglass. I once saw a corvette wreck with a minivan, and most of what was left was splinters and dust.
  23. That reason is why the magnetic fin brakes, were installed in the station, as well as where the old trim brakes used to be. The magnetic fin brakes, are much more reliable than the older wedge style brakes that The Beast used to have.
  24. We all know that ride would never happen today, with all the safety crap that has to happen. There was another ride made like it, that you used to be able to find at many festivals, where you went inside this big spaceship sized thing, and leaned your boday against this padded board. When the ride spun fast enough, the centrifugal force, would push you out againt the ride, and then you would slide up, and your feet would be off the ground. They always had loud music too. I wish PKI would get oen of those installed.
  25. yeah, but one can only hope that the insurance agency, is only willing to pay it out for the repair of what was damaged, not just a generalized check.
