  1. As a nice diversion?
  2. The purpose of the games is to make money. Lots and lots of money. You aren't going to get a $50 prize on a $5 game. Heck, many prizes aren't worth the cost to play.
  3. "What's a senior tour?". Not anything our school system did in my day. "Insurance problems." That and the system bussed student athletes and the band to games. Certainly NOT to school. Or on long trips. There were 400+ in my senior class. Two busses. A decade or so after I graduated, they finally started daily student transport.
  4. Hoose gonna do it? HUSS gonna do it?
  5. More FLAGS, More FUN!
  6. ...now whether or not those are options for Camden Park... There is a big difference between Jane and Jack Boylen and Palace Entertainment...though some claim the latter is currently being shopped...
  7. It's even worse if you watched the YouTube video, with its 'informed' and rushed, breathless commentary.
  8. Cedar Point lost Mr. Kinzel. Carowinds lost Mr. Kinzel. Yes, I do believe, you are right.
  9. OSHA proposed actions can be confusing. See also Camden Park. Or, back when Son of Beast was being built, Kings Island....
  10. I suspect a lot more people here have now been to Carowinds. I also suspect you aren't going to see Living Social deals there this season!
  11. http://m.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/OSHA-fines-Bristol-amusement-park-for-18-6786988.php Headline is misleading. A proposed fine is not a fine....
  12. These days, as even then, the primary question should have an s added to it. Make no mistake about it, if a credible private equity firm comes in with a credible but overly generous offer, the management and unitholders will almost certainly sell. And the buyers will also likely either own or also be buying the other major US seasonal park operator--and will merge the ownership and management of the two. It's not a question of if, but rather when. The longer the current volatility and uncertainty in the finacial markets continues, the longer SIX and FUN have to fix up their financial houses. Instead of paying down debt, both companies are paying out huge dividends or buying back stock. When, not if, interest rates and gas prices go back up, the huge debt at both companies will become a huge midterm concern. Worry focuses the mind. And a sale looks better and better, but not to such a ravaging opportunist as Apollo Global--and Dick Kinzel is, thankfully, gone. As is his GM son.
  13. And for those who don't know, a 1099 is an information return supplied to a recipient and the IRS and relevant state, territory, District, county, city &c. to, among others, an independent contractor (as opposed to an employee--who would get a W-2). The chief differences between employees and independent contractors are in benefits, taxes, control and direction. The IRS formerly had a 20 part test that had to be met before a worker could be treated as an independent contractor as opposed to employee. It's now been replaced by a "simpler" three part one with 11 factors. Because independent contractors cost less, some employers try to characterize some employees as contractors. Generally, independent contractors provide their own tools and supplies, decide when or even if to work...Explained rather simply by a state applying federal rules: http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/efte/appx_d_irs_ic_test.html Terp, who is not now engaged in the private practice of certified public accounting, tax law, bookkeeping (I put that in as I like the three consecutive sets of double letters), financial advising or teaching any of those topics to the general public. No specific professional advice is intended herein, nor is a professional/client relationship formed by the reading hereof. Seek the advice of a professional, competent and certified, should you have, or think you may have, a tax, legal, financial, medical, mental or emotional problem (or combination thereof). If you've read this far, have a cuppa. This is a disclaimer.
  14. Do WHAT? a. Why not THIS year? b. What if there is no 2017 for the park? Confused Terp
  15. If you want to go to Kentucky Kingdom, get there quickly. New coaster. The place needs your support. Go.
  16. Virtually means it isn't. And landlocked means you can't access because the surrounding lands prevent access. An island, to carry it to an extreme, is not landlocked. I seem to remember a causeway and a private road. No matter how you look at it, Cedar Point is not landlocked.
  17. I suspect that a 100 percent perfect re-creation of either would disappoint us all. Times have changed, the world has moved on. Our memories have burnished and improved what was. I tell myself this as I yearn for a Racer that runs as I remember it running in 1972. I had only The Shooting Star and Camden Park's Big Dipper to compare it to. Now, more than 125 wooden coasters later, I doubt my opinion would be the same...
  18. Cedar Point out of land? Hide your stuff in a bush while riding Banshee? Leave your stuff in a Flight of Fear bin while riding Firehawk? Seriously? Sigh.
  19. You should get an email with instructions. And Welcome to KIC!
  20. What a....diversion.
  21. In December, Conneaut Lake Park lost $68,143.19. The cumulative loss since the December 2015 bankruptcy filing is $713,121.18. http://www.communitynewslinesville.com/index.php/conneaut-lake/2496-headlines-for-january-25-2016 This is in addition to the debt af the time the bankruptcy was filed. How much longer can this debt hole keep getting deeper and deeper?
  22. Hey! We aren't all jokers in DC!
