    Alaska

My wife and I have wanted to go to Alaska for some time now. Even an Alaskan Cruise would work. But, after seeing your pictures, I think the "regular" vacation would work just fine. Keep the pics coming. By the way - seeing those pics made me think that some amusement park ought to have an Alaskan themed area - would work for me!
  3. I am a professional musician and music teacher. I respect all styles of music. All of you need to chill about what kinds of music you like and don't like. Some of you are starting to get pretty insulting. This isn't the thread for that - unless we somehow tie it in to "will the cirlce be unbroken, in the sky, Lord, in the sky?"
  4. As I understood it, they didn't give the exact specs yet - I am correct? So it could be even taller?
  5. OK - if this new wheel is 200 meters tall, that's over 65 ft. How tall is the one they're constructing in China right now? I know it's larger than the London Eye.
  6. There are all kinds of medical tests that are performed on patients. The end results are what the doctors are looking for, however - the methods used to accomplish that goal are sometimes quite rough on the person having the test. Things like drinking barium (yuk!) for an upper GI and that other god-awful tasting liquid for a lower GI get the job done, but couldn't they come up with a better procedure preparation for the patient? The same goes for trim brakes. While these new magnetic brakes get tht job done, they're rough on the riders and take away from what could be a pleasant ride experience. The old skid brakes didn't have that jerk-i-ness to them and the pneumatic brakes could be turned on and off as needed. So maybe some further development of the new braking systems needs to be done - and I'm sure it eventually will be. People like us - or of the same "ilk" (gotta abuse that word) - complaining about it should cause the "break makers" to "stop" and take notice!
  7. Somewhere in this thread someone said that you cannot adjust trim brakes - they are either there and on or you physically remove them. I'm not trying to be a stinker (or anyone else of that "ilk") but on Gemini at CP, they have a way of shutting off the trim brake a it rounds the third turn. Sometimes, when there are a lot of empty seats on the train, if that trim is "on" the train will stop. I have also been on Mean Streak when some of the trims were not "on" - once again, a very empty train. This is because of other empty trains that were sent out before were stopping on the trims. Now, all of this may have to do with weight - weight needed for the train to complete its course - but these particular coasters have the ability to have - at least in one place on the curcuit - the trims turned off. As for those questioning "all things Holiday World" - possibly an answer.....they're in a different state and each state has different regulations regarding amusement ride saftey and inspections. This just might be why things there seem different than our beloved Ohio parks. But I still have to question why I can fit on every ride at King's Island and I am turned away from so many at Cedar Point because of shorter seatbelts - even though the ride manufactuers are of the same "ilk" and so on (and so on, and Scooby Dooby Doo). I just wanna be an everyday people!
  8. Actually, the first drop isn't that bad at all. The angle is not that great, so you don't get that "head over heals" feeling and the speed is just right to keep you in your seat without feeling like there's nothing under you. Going into the tunnel makes you forget there was a hill. Oh, and don't forget to smile for the picture on the way down!
  9. Let me ask... Is Hannah the capital of Montana?
  10. I really wish there was a larger picnic area at KI. CP has a huge one. I enjoy taking my own food to the park - especially for lunch - and I have a special diet that I must follow. So, when we go to KI, we leave the park for lunch and either go back to the hotel or hit one of the many restaurants just outside the park.
  11. I thought of something else.... Where did they get the idea that stuff like that was acceptable behavior anywhere & anytime? Maybe I don't peruse the same magazines they read! XOXOXOXO!
  12. I've never made out in line, but there have been times it would have been nice - especially with a few of the chicks I've seen wandering around the park! But seriously, that kind of behavior should be private and I know that I'd be embarrassed if my girl was all over me - and I'm sure my girl would be embarrassed if I were all over her.

    the bat

There was a guide for the brakes to slip through - kinda like the opposite of the antique car guide (it gets wider). The cars were on a straight away when entering the brake - not swinging from side to side. It worked well - I don't remember them ever having a problem stopping a train and, having ridden The Bat several times, I can tell you that all stops were very smooth and never did I suspect any braking problems.

    the bat

I belive that, with time, The Bat's problems could have been worked out. But, I'm talking years and that's unacceptable for a park. Also, what is available in today's market was unavailable back then so it's hard to know for sure that underengineering could be compensated for.
  15. I still would rather have a piece of KC track, enclosed in Lucite, rather than a moon rock!
  16. I won't go on the water rides - log flume and river raft - I can't stand getting wet and smelling like a dam* fish the rest of the day!
  17. Those are sad pictures to look at. I know, I've seen them before but it still makes me sad.

    New track?

I would think the track should almost be done by now! (if that track is for KI)
  19. I take it the food & drinks are overpriced? I know. And I agree with you about carousel's music. They need to bring the calliope back. It's not that difficult and there are several people around the country that can fix or restore them. Great and interesting report. I really enjoyed reading it. Can't wait for part deux.
  20. Showcase closed our Super Cinema - the "dollar" theatres - last week. Now only the expensive movie houses are open. What really sucks is that excpet for one drive-in and a 2 screen theatre in one of our dying malls, Showcase owns all the rest here in Toledo. No competition whatever!
  21. Am I reading this right...there are now seat belts on Top Gun/Flight Deck?

    The Map

It looks like one side of The Racer is still going backwards - or maybe I need new glasses.
  23. OK - so The Racer now goes forward no matter what. So let's turn another coaster around - imagine riding The Beast backwards, especially at night!
  24. The theatres had SENSAROUND - the floor and seats would rumble with the action. The movie kinda sucks - I own a copy. The story line is weak and the "special effects" are terrible!
