I realize that - and I suppose that there will be posts on this thread saying they love SOB or hate SOB, that it should be burned down, and everything else - justifying all of it by saying that that's how and what these forums are all about. I just want to know when things are up and running again. That's all.

What's the latest with the inspection and/or repairs on SOB?

I'm 6' 4" and 280 pounds. My only problem has to do with the distance from my shoulders to my tailbone. So far, the only thing I can't get on is Delirium - I haven't been to the park since Firehawk.

Inverted Wooden Coaster Concept!
Hank replied to kjkjkj's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Now THAT is thinking outside of the box. They should build a small prototype to see how it would be for the general public. Then, if all is OK, go ahead with a full size model - even if it had to have several lifts along the way. Smooth turns would cut-out the head banging. Make sure the thing has speed or it will just be another blah coaster. And it doesn't have to have loops if it is done right. -
When Will The Lights Go Out For The Beast? (or ON!)
Hank replied to PKISecurity's topic in Kings Island
Now, there's a name for a new coaster someone could build - SEIZURE. Make it intense, with VERY loud music and build it very close to the ground (terrain hugging). If done properly, you'd have to have a nurse's station at the exit (Before everybody gets all upset with me and thinks I'm making fun of a serious medical condition, just think of all the wacky names and ideas people have had over the years for coaster designs and names. There will come a point where "tossing your cookies" after a ride just isn't enough anymore - people will want more!) -
When Will The Lights Go Out For The Beast? (or ON!)
Hank replied to PKISecurity's topic in Kings Island
What would be neat is leaving the lights "on" in the helix as you crest the 2nd lift hill. Then, as you start your drop into the helix, all the lights go out. What an effect! -
Has anyone thought of those giant swings S&S make - CP and Kennywood have them and they seem quite popular.

After thinking about it and looking at various pics I have of Corkscrew, there are no trims on it and there never were. My bad!
-
My gut feeling on the MCBR of Vortex and Corckscrew slowing the train down is so the track won't fall apart.

I have to go for a colonoscopy. Sure, they know how to do them, but you have to drink this prep stuff (yuck) and then they almost knock you out to put a rubber hose up your colon. I understand the importance of this test, but they've got to find a better way to do this procedure. I get on a coaster that always had trim brakes (The Beast) but now they've changed them to magnetic trims brakes and it is unpleasureable - not quite as bad as a rubber hose going up your butt, but you get the idea. I understand the importance of the brakes, but they've got to figure out a better way to reinforce the track and such so as not to require the brakes OR figure out how to make better trim brakes altogether. A little thinking outside the box is needed here and for the 25 million the parks are paying for their new coasters, outside odf the box thinking is certainly not asking too much.

Somebody fell out of Flight Commander - a "flat ride" - many years ago and died. It was a very sad happening. They say the lady was either drunk or high. She DID NOT follow directions. I have heard that people have fallen out of almost every ride in the park - probably even the toilets! NOT TRUE! No one has fallen out of a coaster at Kings Island EVER. While you're there, ride them all!
-
My only gripe about a water ride is getting wet. I don't dry-off very fast - and then I smell like a dead fish all day (and I'm not talking lobster with drawn butter!)
-
I don't fit on ANY darn B&M coaster. Funny, but I do fit on all of the kiddie rides. And the people in this country are all getting "larger" according to news reports. If no one is gonna fit on these multi-million dollar machines, they're not gonna patronize the park - and that's just one of the reasons not to visit. By the by - Intamin is getting a bit stingy with room lately too! Reminds me of when imported clothing first came on the scene - the people in Japan made the arms too short and the tails too long, not taking American measurements into consideration.
-
I'll get hate replies for this, but it looks like just another big coaster to me. I'm the kind of person who's looking outside of the box and this machine looks like it's still within the box. It may be good for KI, but couldn't some kind of elements have been put in along the way to make it special?

It was just a idea. Take that Dinosaur Ride at Animal Kingdom. I'm sure it cost a fortune to build, but it will cost even more to re-theme the ride once it gets old and and stale. Look what they had to do to Tower of Terror after only a few years to make it more interesting! Even Maverick had a major change prior to opening - ecen after all that computer money was spent on the design.
-
Now, now - be nice. DT was never that great of a ride to begin with! And we're talking about serious stuff here - not some stupid goofy blinking lights and pooly shot film!
-
It's just a idea, but since it's not that tall, they should enclose the entire ride, air-condition it, and add all the theaming they want - including blsck lights and glow in the dark things - but keep it as dark inside as possible so you REALLY don'tknow where you're going. Otherwise, it's just another mine train coaster - the best one ever built - that needs restoration and half of the effects are never working properly anyway Then, every so often, you could completely change the theaming for a totally "new adenture"
-
OK - so what's the REAL color of the suppoprts and whet's the REAL color of the track?
-
The way I've been feeling lately after my neck surgery, I'd have to say the Russian Ice Slides!

I know that I complain sometimes, and I never really compliment those who put some good words and/or pictures on this site. So.....I must say that these pictures are beyond awesome! Thank you for taking the time to shoot them and share them with us. I sincerely appreciate the effort and the beautiful outcome.

Two things..... #1 The boats always back up near the end of the ride where the ducks are quacking and it gets on my nerves, so I hope they change that. #2 When they "updated" the Tiki Tiki Room they ruined it. The cartoon birds (Iago, Zazu and such) take away from the original animitronic birds and not only is the song ruined, but the whole mood of the attraction is ruined. I read in the book Mouse Under Glass that It's A Small World, The Tiki Tiki song, Yo Ho A Piarate's Life For Me and a few others were originally to be in the Mary Poppins movie, with Mary and the children visiting different places, but putting all of those songs in the film would have made it VERY long, so some were cut. Like I said - that's what I read in the book.

I lost a souvenir cup (not a freebee but one I purchased) on The Beast's loading platform - someone took it! Other than that, I lost my cookies on Der Spinner Kegs. Oh!!!! -- I lost a girlfriend on The Racer - she didn't like the ride and didn't like me for MAKING her go on it, so when we exited the ride, she exited my life and took-up with another friend of mine (we went with a group of 8). I believe their relationship lasted until Top Gun (now Flight Deck)!
