Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^I am only going to remind everybody once... From: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4128 This issue does have some relevance to how it will affect the amusement industry and so forth, keep the politics off these boards, their are other websites all over especially during these days to talk about politics. -
You said it! By the way--I love your signature! Strickers would fare well with some more rides from the former Americana, although the rides that are still there are not in the best of shape. Would love to see the log flume go there. The little dipper could probably run again. It's a shame probably nothing will become of the Eagle. The wiring on the ride is all pretty much intact. It would require some new brakes, new control panel, replace some wiring and steel on the wooden track here and there. Most of the rusted steel would become polished after running the train on it after awhile just as on most wooden coasters. It would probably need new trains since no one seems to know where the former trains for it went. I think GL and KI have some extras they may want to sell...

I like sitting at those tables back when the Indiana Jones theme would play... ...no more though.

Dane for the win.

Not necessarily, yes CBS was the parent company at the time KI dropped HB, but Paramount Park's under viacom had begun phasing out HB at their other parks before the CBS/Viacom split. Even when KI did dropped all HB licensing, with the exception of Scooby Doo through sally dark rides, it was a decision put in place by the company known as Paramount Parks who had been placed under CBS during the split.

H-B was great for 35 years. Cedar Fairs or whoever just wanted to come in and change what KI was. It was actually Paramount, not Cedar Fair who dropped HB, and they didn't do it to "change what KI was" they did it because times change and they were adapting to the market. Nickelodeons popularity among the target audience of park goers surpassed HB.

Nope, park's fine the way it is, if Hannah Barbera was such an excellent asset then I'm sure they would've kept it. They didn't.

-Lots of people do, and the price is usually below 8 dollars. -King Cobra is gone dude, the track was hauled off some time ago. I'll say it before interpreter does ...... you can rides its nearly identical twin up in Canada's Wonderland or it's cousin down at Kings Dominion.

Rides like The Beast have fencing along its underground tunnels that should keep an animal like a deer from entering the tunnel as well as deer whistles mounted to the front of each train.

I didn't say NO nick characters are popular, I said not many. As I can see you did only name 3! Patrick is popular too, and maybe Rugrats, but thats probably about it. Regardless they will NEVER be as popular and last as long as H-B!!! You know, I really don't understand why so many older people on forums like these fail to realize this....and by older i mean as in HB was to you what Nickelodeon is to kids today. Sure, HB was great for you, you have lots of memories, yeah yeah yeah but thats what Nickelodeon is to todays kids. HB just isn't as popular with kids today, trends emerge, fads change. It has been made clear that Nickelodeon is obviously much more popular with kids today than HB, although some think HB is making a come back. I just don't see why people can't get past the "HB is better than anything" mentality, kids are different these days, things change. I really don't think parks like KI and Mall of America would do as well if they dropped their Nickelodeon licensing. Yeah there may be boomerang, but Nickelodeon is easier to get on cable and seen by more than boomerang is. Even Cartoon Network created Boomerang to make room for newer cartoons to compete with Nickelodeon. Scooby Doo is obviously an exception as it had its own separate "comeback" and revitilization, even with that, its failed to keep up with Nickelodeon. I'm glad everyones got such great memories of the HB characters and what not, but things do change.

SF To Create Scooter-Riding Zones
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Those fuzion scooters are a blast! And before anyone complains without checking out the website.....they're not electric scooters that would prevent the rider from getting exercise. -
There really is no need to type in all caps and overuse punctuation marks.

Yep. as rz pointed out earlier in the topic...

lol yeah, while I'd love to see a AAA team in the AHL like the ducks come back, the cyclones beats having nothing. What? Hockey is still very strong in Cincinnati. You got the semi-pro Cyclones downtown, and various junior and amatuer teams spread throughout the city, one of the most notable teams is the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones who played at the Gardens last year and are now the Queen City Steam at Sport's Plus. I still think the city could support two teams just as it once did if we got an AHL team back, the cyclones attendance seems to be getting better. Well Cincinnati did try to get a AHL team after the Ducks left town. The AHL thing did not work out, but we got lucky and got the Cyclones back. I still like the the old Cyclone mascot same they don't use him anymore. Yes, the Cincinnati Gardens was going to be the home arena for the "Cincinnati Railraiders", but the team failed to sell enough season tickets right off The Bat for the AHL to warrant the creation of the team after the Duck's had moved to Albany to become the "Albany River Rats". My dad had bought season tickets for me and him, it's a shame they didn't make it. I'd still love to see AHL hockey at the Gardens yet again. In the last years of the Ducks they really had that place cleaned up nice with the awesome history museum and all.

Even with how nice Nationwide Arena is, the past Columbus games I've been to have seemed like they weren't meeting attendance expectations.

Awesome photo avatar! I never did the summer hockey camp but from 3rd grade until 6th grade I used to go to tuesday night hockey camp at the Goggin practice rink until I started playing reguarly at Northlands. I'll have to dig up some photos when I go home this weekend of me playing at old Goggin. There was also a time when the Cyclones used to do a youth outreach thing called "The Concrete Clones" where they would set up mini rinks in a parking lot and you could sing up for clinics and play scrimages and run drills with them. When I was 12 a player named Doug Macdonald took a shoot and hit me in the face sending me to the hospital and giving me a black eye. He was nice enough to come down and check on me and give me a signed jersey.

No problem Monroe, thanks for the compliment! It's too bad the Stingers opted for minor league and money as opposed to joining the NHL, maybe Cincinnati could have an NHL team today.

Oh man Avatar, I know the exact place you are talking about! My dad and I used to go skating there after dinner on saturdays in the winter back when I played hockey and was practicing. Spent lots of time there, was very sad to see them tear it down to make room for the Miami University Hamilton campus. This is how it looked in February 2007 before they tore it down almost a year ago... My High School used to play their home games here before moving to Goggin up in Oxford in 2006 and they were really the last tenants. So many memories from that place, was sad to see it go. Check out Queen City Disco for more photographs.... Queen City Discovery - Hamilton Sport's Complex

Twin Section(Hotel breakers)
Gordon Bombay replied to a topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Stayed at Breakers Express two nights this past summer, only drawbacks was the location of wi-fi only in the lobby, and that the "continental breakfast" they offered was not free, of course they don't mention that till you get to the end of the line. While using my laptop in the lobby to work on some stuff there were a lot of families coming in who got moved from old breakers, ticked off that there was no air conditioning. -
My dad used to have season tickets back when they were the Redskins, I spent so many saturday nights as a kid going to old Goggin then free skating afterwards. Now they have a new, very nice arena. Here at Ohio we have a club team that plays in this rickety old place that makes Hara Arena look nice, most games sell out and the team is usually pretty good.
