Saturday in October? I believe KI had over 60K guests on October 17 last year. I will go but will not stay around much after 12 pm.

Would you like to see B&M redesign Firehawk?
Rustbucket replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
Although I love Tatsu and Manta, B&M version of flying coaster is not better by any means. Firehawk is fine as it is. -
Only a handful of coasters I have been on that I prefer front seat. The only one at KI is the Stunt Coaster. Unless it is a walk on, I do not wait for front.

We decided to go to Cedar Point for a day on 9/18. My son and I headed toward Sandusky around 6:30 am. This has become an annual trip for us. Sundays in September are the best days to go to Cedar Point as far as crowd goes. The park is usually not busy at all. We got to the Park around 10:15 am and immediately head to Millennium Force. This is what we always do. Get one ride on MF before heading to Maverick. I have always like the first drop on MF. The drop itself make this a good ride even if the rest of the ride is rather average. I always think this coaster will provide more airtime than it actually does. Overall, I still have this ride in my top 20 steel coaster. Maverick has become one of my favorite at CP since the change in restraint system. This coaster may have been the first that Intamin designed which went overboard. They did have to make a modification prior to opening. The original restraint system was somewhat painful. We rode this 5 times prior to moving on. Gemini is one of those coasters that is no longer popular but still provide plenty of airtime. It is difficult to believe now but Gemini was once the tallest coaster in the world. We always ride this at least once. Now for Magnum XL-200. This is still my favorite coaster at CP. As always, we rode on 6-2. I love these ejector airtime. I also think Magnum has the best view of any coaster I have been on. One other coaster rivals the view is Great White at Morey's Piers. We rode this 5 times and moved on. Top Thrill Dragster provide a good rush. Unfortunately, this is ridiculously short. I only ride this if the line is short nowadays. We had 2 walk on rides on Dragster on back seats! I always hope for a rollback but never get on. I did get it once about 11 years ago. I had to do a Power Tower. I just had to. I still prefer Drop Tower but this is a decent substitute until next week for my quest to get to 10,000 rides on Drop Tower. I am 65 rides away. We rode a Sky Ride to go toward the front of the park but I noticed no line on Gatekeeper so we rode Gatekeeper twice. Then we went to Raptor for 2 rides. Overall, we got to ride 20 rides in 4 and 1/2 hours. We rode Valravn last month but were not impressed at all. I prefer Sheikra over Valravn and were not going to wait 30 minutes for this ride. We left around 2:45. Overall, this was a good day. As usual, I ran into a few people I know from Kings Island. Andrew, Adam and Roger. It was nice seeing all of you.

Millennium Flyer trains are really comfortable. They have one seat belt per train which is somewhat odd. I found these GCI to be absolutely great: Thunderhead, Renegade, Apocalypse, American Thunder, Prowler, Lightning Racer I found these CGI to be rather average: Gwazi, Roar (SFA) and Wildcat (Hershey) I believe these three were the three of the oldest GCI if I remember correctly.

We were there on Black Friday and 12/29 last year. On Black Friday, everything was a walk on except for Mystery Mine. We got 15 rides on Thunderhead. On 12/29, it was the busiest I have ever seen in Dollywood. Thunderhead was over an hour wait. Only coaster that had less than 30 minute wait was Wild Eagle. We barely got 5 rides in 4 hours. Then again, it was in the 70oF on that day in December!
-
I rode 11 times in April. Most of the time, I see 2 train rides. My 4th favorite wooden coaster out of 92 I have been on.
-
I love Thunderhead. This is my favorite GCI coaster. It became somewhat of a tradition for us to go to Dollywood after Christmas for the last coaster rides of the year. We make Thunderhead the last coaster for the year.

Interesting discussion. After all these years, I still enjoy Magnum far more than Millennium Force. Generations of coaster aside, Superman Ride of Steel built in 1999 is still my favorite coaster of them all. Loving a certain coaster is a personal matter anyway. I personally love coasters with relentless G force and change in G. In certain ways, Magnum is the reason why Diamondback, Superman Ride of Steel (Bizarro), and other hypers came into existence. It is historical and some people do find it too much to handle. Magnum was the first coaster I was on that was higher than 100 feet AND 200 feet.

Ride on 6-2. Do it after dark. To me, the best night ride is Magnum XL-200. The breeze on your face climbing up the hill, looking at light houses on the lake, colors of the park lighting up the ride, I became a coaster junky from this very ride.

Which coaster do you want to come next.
Rustbucket replied to Beasttamer's topic in Coming Attractions
I am so excited about Mystic Timbers. GCI has built some great coasters recently. For the next coaster project, I am on the Giga bandwagon. I am a huge giga coaster fan. Yes, Fury 325 is that good. 4 airtime hills on that coaster are the most intense airtime I have ever experienced on any B&M coaster. My favorite element is the twist side way airtime dive into the tunnel. I love Leviathan. I love Intimidator 305. Millennium Force is the only one that is not on my top 15 steel coasters as far as giga goes. I am hoping to ride Steel Dragon 2000 someday. -
"It appeared to be an UFO but it is actually a publicity stunt by a local amusement park promoting their newest attraction."

Valravn is not what I would call a destination ride. I would not go out of my way to ride this. I like Sheikra and Griffon better than Valravn. My favorite part of Valravn is the view from the top of the first hill. No, this view does not beat the two best views thus far which are Magnum and Great White. I like the ride better than Gatekeeper which really is not saying much. I like Wicked Twister and Raptor better than Gatekeeper. I will ride Magnum and Maverick all day with occasional ride on Millennium Force. These two rides are the reason I go to Cedar Point.

27 FIRED FROM CAROWINDS.
Rustbucket replied to freaks76's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Work Visa is revoked if they are found to be breaking company rules. This is true for any corporations. They have to leave the US immediately once their employment is terminated. There is no exception. The same rule apply for company sponsoring employees without resident visa. I have seen many get sent back because they get arrested or stealing from the company. -
Since old Paramount parks were purchased by CF in 2006, it would be reasonable to say 2008 would be the first year to really start to put in any new rides in these parks. It takes at least 2 years to plan these so this seems reasonable. Just to recap major rides since then in KI and CP: CP since 2008: Valravn, Gatekeeper, rethemed Mantis, Sling Shot, Pipe Scream, Glider. ( I forgot Shoot the Rapids but does it count?) KI since 2008: Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, Glider, Tropical Plunge, (rethemed Bat but....) According to this list, KI actually got the better coasters than CP. Besides, old Paramount parks got the following coasters in other parks: Behemoth and Leviathan in CW, Intimidator and Fury 325 in Carowinds, Goldstriker in Great America, Intimidator 305 in Kings Dominion. These coasters are fantastic coasters which I feel are better than any at CP.

I love the ride. Most underrated coaster in KI. Very re-ridable. My favorite is the back seat.

It is a shame. I love Dollywood and make three or four trips a year. I was there in April but Lightning Rod was not open yet. I know people like RMC coasters but this situation will not help Dollywood nor RMC. I hope not, but RMC may not survive this. Even if they do, the recovery will be slow and painful. Intamin has not built a coaster in the US since 2012 if I remember correctly. I love Intamin coasters as you can see from my favorite coasters but the parks do not care if coaster enthusiasts love the rides or not. They care about reliability and profitability. Nothing upsets park guests like promises not kept such as rude employees or ride having long technical issues.

I was on Adventure Express line. We were next to the last seats. There were two girls waiting for the last seats and discussion why they like the last seat. One girl said, "The ride lasts longer in the back seats." I did not know that.

I heard people say Banshee is rough. It does depend on whom you ask. Racer is also an important coaster which was credited with the start of the coaster war. Some people will react to Racer closing rather negatively. I am certain that Don will not be in favor of that. Having said that, Racer was reprofiled to allow X-Base (Flight of Fear) walk way to be built. So you never know.

Mean Streak Gets the Axe September 16th
Rustbucket replied to JubJester's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I was there for the opening day for Mean Streak. After my first ride, the line was 3 and 1/2 hours long. Believe it or not, this was the coaster that made me a wooden coaster fan. Also, this was my 4th wooden coaster I ever rode. I really liked the ride back then. Having said that, I rode this coaster for the last time in 2003. With all the trims and jack hammering, I thought that the coaster really aged badly. There was only one coaster I thought gave me a worse ride. That was Raging Wolf Bobs. This does prove that some coasters age really, really badly. -

It should be the other way, you mean. No air time on Dragster. -

Rustbucket replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
It looks like we have many here who rode this coaster already. Just looking at this POV, the coaster looks to have absolutely amazing amount of airtime with several great lateral hills. This looks somewhat like a cross between Lightning Racer and Prowler. The drop is very similar to Thunderhead but in opposite direction. For those who have not ridden many GCI coasters, do yourselves a favor and ride Thunderhead, Renegade, Prowler or Lightning Racer. -
Does Living Close To KI Take The Magical Out Of It?
Rustbucket replied to presto123's topic in Kings Island
We live relatively far away.... 15 minutes. My kids think it is perfectly natural to have places like Kings Island this close so that they can get there whenever they want. We go to the park for 2 hours on Saturday and Sunday to walk and ride rides and come home by lunch time. It is not a magical moment when my kids get to Kings Island anymore. It became a routine long time ago. It is somewhat like having a season ticket to baseball. It almost become a part of what you do. -

Magic Mountain.(Sorry for double post, I suck at editing) Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk Great GCI coaster but not quite as good as Thunderhead for me. Thunderhead is my favorite GCI by a long shot. Not likely but Intamin woodies are my favorites. I have only been on El Toro and T-Express which are 1st and 3rd on my wooden coaster list. -

I guess I do learn darnest things here. Maverick does not have any down time.. Maverick has more than enough share of its down time. MF had cable lift snapped more than a few times. TTD down time has been well documented. Dick Kinzel said that was the worst investment. Maverick and Intimidator 305 had to be modified. Volcano is down more than any rides at KD. Maverick and Intimidator 305 restraint systems had to be replaced. Intimidator 305 wheels had to be changed so much due to overheating and had to be chilled with water spray for the entire first year. Shoot the Rapid!!! So on.... Don't get me wrong. I love Intamin rides. My favorite steel and wooden coaster are Intamin. I ride Drop Tower more than just about anyone (9908 and counting). That does not mean Intamin rides are good investments for the park. KI has quite a few Intamin rides already including one of KI's most iconic attraction.
