  1. it always seems that in the May-June corridor (corresponding to the end of the school year) there is an influx of bored teens looking to be an antagonist. Not to stroke them all with a broad brush- but it seems to happen every year at this time.
  2. from rcdb.com this wouldn't even go under "unknown" yet?
  3. kind of surprised this hasn't made it to the "New for 2014" section of RCDB yet.
  4. seems like this public relations snafu could have been averted with a simple "What if" session.
  5. Don's the PR guy. he gets paid to field questions (clever and dumb).
  6. Let me echo shark then. I agree entirely, they challenged the design team on several facets of the Gate Keeper coaster. It wasn't just a coaster installed fit the sake if having a coaster. I realize that Firehawk was a transfer, but was a classic example of a Kinzel era coaster placement for the sake of having a coaster. The new ki coaster will be well planned, thought out, and uniquely Kings Island. Can't wait.
  7. Couple of things- and I don't know if this is the right thread to do this on, but I viewed the video here- so you tell me. I just watched the Matt O... (however its spelled) interview- and WOW, what an outstanding mind to have taken the reigns of the CF park chain. Whereas I think Kinzel was mostly about numbers and build the biggest, best attraction that makes the biggest statement and it will bring bodies in the door. I think the new CEO is about the guest experience. I love what he said that "most of the people that come in the park a second time come back because they had fun the first time." Has no interest in copying all parks into a single brand... "there are 11 brands" Building better attractions that parents will ride with their kids (but more importantly)- not "because" of their kids. the leading of his conversation leads me to think also that within CF there is a department developing akin to the Disney "Imagineers"- I could be wrong, but many things he mentioned made it seem like they are challenging designers to create things that give the customer a completely unique experience. I could be wrong, but I'm willing to place a few sheckels that whatever is being built on the former SOB grounds will be a uniquely Kings Island experience. I'm willing to bet also that there will be some cosmetic changes coming in the coming years to themed areas of the KI grounds.
  8. Wake me up when an official announcement is made. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
  9. no, Terp. it's "Partially Sunny." everyone knows that.
  10. Have an idea. Find a construction guy enjoying a break with a danish. If no danish is found on his person buy him a Dippin Dots bowl. Tell him you're THE Dippin Dots guy and you need the scoop. If he's half a man, he'll spill the beans.
  11. was someone making reference that I was being mean-spirited to someone earlier? I didn't go back and read all of the comments, but all I was saying is that I'm hoping no one is trespassing on private property at the B&M location. I have never been to said location so I couldn't tell you how public or private it is. I just hope that in the pursuit of "what's being built" no one is infringing on legal technicalities. And I'll leave open the possibility that no one has. Like I said, I have no idea what the privacy/security is around that place. Nothing mean-spirited meant.
  12. I'm sure its mentioned in here somewhere- but with the pictures taken of coaster track in the east side of Cincy... just to make sure no one is trespassing for the sake of a enthusiast blog, right? maybe there was permission given, maybe it's a public lot, maybe this has already been discussed. Either way, this thread is giving me the impression that we seem to have a lot of time on our hands.
  13. First time poster?, you must be a nervous wreck. Welcome to KIC.
  14. New for 2014: Charlie Hustle 309... Charlie Hustle 4192... the first coaster in the world to top 4000 feet! (it could actually be 4192 inches... that is 350 feet)- not my vote, but could be...
  15. I can imagine the entire KI team sitting for their morning coffee and thinking of creative ways to establish a brain freeze on these boards. I agree, Don is toying with everyone... and enjoying himself at the same time. I wish I could be in his position, because I'd have the thought processes so screwed up that everyone would be absolutely convinced that KI would be building the world's largest Dippin Dots Stand. This topic has drained a ton of time for everyone- and provided useless entertainment for the rest.
  16. hmmm... top 5 in order: 1) 700 WLW (you didn't list talk radio...)- and maybe #1b- WGN Radio 2) Steven Curtis Chapman 3) Billy Joel 4) Huey Lewis & the News 5) Michael W. Smith
  17. Not sure why I'm spending lunch time contributing to this. My vote would be for a coaster with a ride experience you cannot get anywhere else- that is so unique to KI that you have to come here to experience it. Not sure exactly what a "giga" is- but sounds tall and fast- so why spend millions on a larger version of Diamondback with a mirrored experience in just about every thrill park in the country. ie- why travel all the way to Kings Dominion to experience "Intimidator 305"- its essentially the same'ish, albeit 50-60 feet. The Beast, have to come to KI to experience it. Son of Beast (experienced rather sipped)- but you had to come to KI to get it. TR:TR- I may be mistaken, but wasn't it the only one indoors with the ride show?- again, had to come to KI for it. FOF- there may be one other, but they are the only two enclosed.
  18. I remember the information for Diamondback was in full digital print long before the announcement was made. I tried looking on the zoning board sites last night- they must have changed their publishing protocol- as I was unable to turn up anything. But, then again, it has been a few years since I came across Diamonbacks info "accidentally." For what its worth, it wasn't called by that name. The zoning hearings are public meetings- not the deliberation, but the approval/denial. Matters of record would be: type of structure, height of structure, etc... They've probably changed how they publish these tough.
  19. I haven't looked on the Warren County sites myself, but remember that just about every detail about Diamondback was in digital print long before the announcement was made. Back in 2004, necessary operating permits were applied for long in advance for a certain Christmas themed event. Here'sa question, is Kings Island in Mason or Deerfield twp?
  20. Zzzzzzzzzz... Whoa, waking from my long slumber. Is there something going on in the park??? Seems to me that the same people who were smart enough to track down a trademark filing could look on public records no further than in Warren County to see what zoning permits have been applied for/filed? Construction has obviously started, so its been filed somewhere... Go to the courthouse, attend a zoning hearing (they're public), or even scope out your good friend- the internet. Going back to bed now.
  21. well I’m back, sort of. this is my first post in 90 or so days... and I’m pretty far out of habit posting on here. For my own productivity, it should probably remain so. Here is my “trip report” covering my last 90+ days. At the end of January I took a job with a State of Ohio Tourism industry partner. Basically I covered small counties in the northwestern part of the state touting their tourist sites. It was fun, worked with some great people! No i didn’t get to work with the favored southwestern Ohio locations (you need seniority to pull that rank). I did come across details only because I was nosy. I don’t know how public they are, but they’re not going to be told by me. About 2+ weeks ago I started having some back trouble, which isn’t unusual. I do dumb things to make sure that I get the occassional back pain- but usually “play through it.” About 2 weeks ago I found out that this was no “usual” stop. I was in the hospital for almost a week addressing the problem and found out that due to the treatments, I woulnd’t be able to drive for several weeks. Now, when you are paid by contract (not salary) and working neccessitates you to drive, that’s problematic. Upon starting rehab I needed to resign- fortunately a local CEO that I had kept communications with over the years came calling at the right time and I was able to transition without missing a beat- a job I could, at least, partially, work from home- since I am still on driving restriction. This is not a woe-is-me cry- as thank God- I will be landing on my feet. Financially we won’t feel much of a pinch from this and for the most part my back will heal in time. When October rolls around, my roller coaster tally for the summer will stand at 0. this summer when you ride a coaster (KI or elsewhere)- and you think “wow, that was bumpy”- pay attention to your body. You only get one body. My advice to you. Medically speaking I was told most amusement rides are off of my list this summer... maybe for life. Roller coasters didn’t cause this; i will say they were probably a spoke in the wheel, but i take responsibility for my own actions. Pay attention to yourself. You may be in your teens (or twenties) and these things don’t bother you- but some day you are going to be in your late 30s-early 40s wondering what decisions you could have made differently. Anyway, I’m back- though since i am 90-days removed from the “habit”- I will likely stay as such. Don’t bother asking what things are coming here, there, or anywhere- I don’t know much, and what I do I can still be sued for.
  22. Just ignore that post... I hate posting from my phone.
  23. Don't get your Hopes up over nothing. This was a picture on jungle jim's site, not ki. tower just because they may out may not be snagging the water tower (no one official actually said that, it was a post From someone at large on their fb page). The more telling piece for me may be that they removed all of the sob cement footings. Why remove them If trees and vegetation are to grow?
  24. I'm going to go with the comment on their fb page of a new home for the water tower.
