Yes its a given they are selling the Chaos rides to, but still as a park goer I am a fan of the ride itself. Wouldnt have minded seeing one come to KI instead of being sold. Interpreter doing what he does best, stating the obvious with sarcasim.

Kinzel To Stay Until 2012
RailRider replied to Hank's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is great news for Cedar Fair and Kings Island. This will also be looked upon favorable by investors because it will show stability within a company that has just doubled in size. Just think what Cedar Fairs stock would have done if you had the acquisition go throught and then 12 months or so later you have Kinzel retiring from the company. Thats a lot of change real fast and would have been dificult for Cedar Fair to overcome all of those negative. This will keep them in a favorable position on WallStreet and should have more investors willing to buy more Cedar Fair stock which is always a good thing. -
I wouldnt mind one of the Chaos rides that Cedar Fair is selling come to KI and possibly back with FoF and XF. They are an older flat, but quite fun and are a great visual for guests to sit and watch. $125K for Chaos or $125K for Superman the Escape. Anyone wana pool some money and see what we can do???

The wheels are either nylon or vinyl. Im surprised there hasnt been more work done in developing stronger and more durable wheels. Especially with the speeds some of the newer coasters have acheived. I would think paying a little more for wheels upfront and having them last longer would be more economical than having cheaper wheels that you replace more often.

Heres a few questions that Im sure someone can answer. Am I correct in saying Flight of Fear has a dedicated electrical line/supply going to the ride? Would it be possible to tie in to this source for the power needed for X-Flight? If this is a possibility it would seem like this would cut down a lot of work trenching, laying condiut, and running new lines, because this would be a much closer distance than needing to run lines. Just some thoughts, because look at how much work Cedar Point has put in to Maverick and running its new lines, that aint cheap. Then again Maverick has a bit larger appetite for electricity than what X-Flight does.

^ ^ Now the real test to see if you are a PKI addict. Did you print the report in color so you could see the excelent pictures of the damage in true life or did you print in black in white to save your ink???

Also if properly maintained an issue with the wheels should be noticed before one either disentagrates or just falls off. Just stating the obvious.

I think it is very feasible to dismantle and reassemble X-Flight in just a few months. I would look for it to be ready for opperations around the same time IJ:ST was opperating full time. After all this coaster has been assembled once, so the 2nd time should be pretty easy because theoretically all the bugs have been worked out. Seems doable to me.

Son Of Beast: Out of the Loop!

Well how are they going to make the existing trains lighter? -
Along the same lines. Look at profesional sports teams. If there is a player trade and one of the players received has a known prexisting injury and the other team does not inform his new team about said injury. Once discovered the new team can either seek monitary reimbursement or negotiate a new trade with the prior team. This is evident with the Reds and Nationals trade involving Gary Majeski and his arm. Anyways it might be possible for something like this to happen between Cedar Fair and CBS. Monitary retributions for SoB not a ride to be named latter. Just a thought, but also would be a legal headache, could also go after CBS for making structure changes without consulting the engineer that designed the structure.

Yes I did read the entire 25 page report, because: 1.) I am addicted to Kings Isalnd 2.) I was bored at work 3.) I love reading Engineering/State Reports and Documents 4.) I have no meaningful life outside of themeparks Anyways I would assume that the report took some time to compile so I am sure KI actually knew this information before the report was even published. Also since the findings in the report have been known by KI and CF for quite some time now, this is how they can say the ride will be opperating in 07. They know what they need to do, what they have done already to comply, and what they have left to do.

Son Of Beast: Out of the Loop!
RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Seems about right, because Im pretty sure 5 year olds are the contributing staff for the DDN. Only read it in college because they gave it out for free, which was still asking a lot of poor college kids to read a newspaper that is crap. -

^ ^ Avatar tounge firmly planted in cheek... Seriously though I am hoping for a nice tunnel section, because that would help improve the excitement factor on SoB without the loop. Also I wonder what kind of air time the ride might produce with the lighter trains and the lack of being stappled in your seat. SoB has always produced good latteral and positive G's, but never much in airtime. I truly believe that these changes to the ride will make for a completely different ride experience next year. Who knows it could be a rebirth for Sonny. -
I would say your best option is to call the GWL and ask those questions. They would be the best resource of information. Have fun with your stay and take pics

^ ^ Thats the Dayton Daily News and their always inept reporting. They normal leave out very important facts of stories and never bother with corrections. Just one more reasson I dont read the DDN. -

I think its a very good thing he is involved because it shows concern on Cedar Fairs part. I just wonder if under Paramount Parks anyone outside of the park would have been involved in a major project like this? Monty is very hands on for what he does and its great to have someone like him now involved with Kings Island. I would imagine you will see him at somepoint this year strolling through the park. -
Kinda the same thing with woodies, If it dont shake its gonna break. But I would still imagine that the swaying towers will cause the metal to fatigue sooner than a rigid piece of track. Still eventhough it does what it is supposed to it is very stomach churning to watch that thing sway as you wait in line. Just another reasson to love WT
-
For a meager $125,000 you could be the next owner of Superman the Escape. Heres the Link to Amusement Trader Wanna Buy It??? Thats right the Giant L is for sale by SFMM and for the entire ride it would only cost $125,000. Fairly cheap for a unique ride that delivers great negative G's. Anyone want to pool our money and see if we can buy this thing. Ive got enough land for it.
-
^ ^ That is one of the scariest parts about ridding WT is watching the spike sway in the sky. Something just not right about that. I always ask myself how many years can that ride opperate before the spikes starting getting hairline fractures in them because of all the torque they go through in a seasson...

Something's Happening at Fort Cooper!
RailRider replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Big flat section of land cleared next to the Extraterestrial Hanger at Fort Cooper and the confirmation from Cedar Fair the X-Flight will be realocated to another Cedar Fair park. Just seems that everything adds up. Maybe this is just another fakeout and Kings Island is getting a different attraction, however unlikely. -

Thank you Zoso for posting the link to the actuall report by the Department of Agriculture. The most interesting section discusses the Global Considerations and the fact that the modifications made to SoB structure since it opened were not made with input from the original designer. Also the report discusses the issues that Kings Island experienced with RCCA during the SoB design and construction process. Very interesting report and the details are great. After reading the report it makes more sense as to why the loop would be removed along with other changes being made to the track and structure, because there are quite a few things that need to be fixed before the state will clear the ride for opperation. Also another interesting note is that Monty Jasper from Cedar Fair has been involved in this process along with his counterpart at Kings Island. Im just glad to see that Cedar Fair is taking an interest in fixing this problem day one and are not going to let the sucess or failure of the ride fall strictly on Kings Island. ^ RailRider learning to cope with the removal of the Loop. -
Son Of Beast: Out of the Loop!
RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Son ofa Bit*h Well Im still upset and in disbelief, because I absolutely loved the loop on SoB, mainly because for those few seconds your internal organs werent being liquified, but now KI will have a massively rought Hyper Woodie. Interesting its Mean Streak on Steriods. I hope that the changes being made will greatly improve the ride quality and smoothness of the ride, especially through the first rose bowl. Cant wait to expeirence the new version of SoB next year and see if its better with or without the loop. -

No words can describe my sadness right now... -
We have had confirmation from Maureen that SoB will reopen. Remember when it comes to KI this site is more up to the date than any other local news source. This really isnt groundbreaking news, but it does verify what myself and many others have said all along, the structure and materials were defective and not the track itself. I think it also alludes to new trains that are lighter, because the Premier trains beat the structure up because of their sheer weight. Less weight, less structure fatigue and movement, should equal smoother ride. No Loop, Very Sad

Something's Happening at Fort Cooper!
RailRider replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I will play along, because this game is fun and entertaining. Do you think that the cherry picker which is on site would be able to support the weight of atleast 2 workers, their tools for disassembly, and also the pieces of track they disassemble? Seems kinda dangerous and also doubt it could support the weight.
