According to Google, 23.7 miles via car or 18.3 miles via bike...

The Columbus Zoo looks like a neat place. I'll have to find time to get up there one of these days, though I rarely even go to the Cincinnati Zoo and I'm only 10 minutes from it.

I'll take Dixie over Gold Star any day...

For those who can't get enough, I found The Banana Splits In Hocus Pocus Park on Youtube as well. While cheesy, it has some really clear shots of classic KI - amazing how much the park has changed over the years... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/p/B12A30A2278118BC&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/p/B12A30A2278118BC&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/p/B12A30A2278118BC&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="385" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Even the directions are wrong... That's Kings Mills Road. "Several" generally refers to more than 2 If you turn left onto 42 in Lebanon, you'll be going North, not South. They're leaving out the easiest route - 75 south to Tylersville, then east to Western Row / Kings Island Drive Ohio 741 doesn't go to Kings Island - it ends at the Kings Mills Road / I-71 interchange.

If you're talking about the ride shown in the video after the people eating and a quick shot of the Eiffel Tower, then that ride is Bayern Curve, which can be seen here. Thanks. Upon further viewing, I also see a shot of the Bavarian Beetle in there.

I beat you to it Terpy

Latest questions and answers http://www.facebook.com/notes/kings-island/55-mailbag-monday-april-12/383901196948 I'm a bit surprised they didn't mention the park's parent swap program in relation to that last question.

Make that four, counting Huckleberry Hound. Knew I was missing one. Thanks! Quick question... Which coaster/ride is shown starting around the 4 minute mark in the first "Old Kings Island" video?
-
You're welcome If you pay close attention to one of those home movies, you'll notice that KI was at one time inhabited by no less than 3 dogs (Scooby, Hong Kong Phooey and Fleegle (from Banana Splits)).

I'm sure all of these have been posted before (I know one of them has been posted several times), but since opening day is less than a week away, I thought it would be fun to post them again... First off, a nice promo video for The Bat: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>Next up, a three-part home movie of KI from the 1970s: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>And last but not least, our favorite classic KI video (well worth posting again): <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>Feel free to add your own favorite classic KI videos to this topic

Since the topic of "things not there" has made me so nostalgic, I thought it would be fun to discuss fond memories of days gone by at KI. I'll have to dig through our family photos when I have time and see if I can find any from our KI trips, but one of my biggest memories was the fun we had with Les Taxis/Antique Cars. My mom's afraid of heights, so this was one of the few things we could all do together. Nothing like spending a few minutes on a cool summer evening winding slowly through (what was then) the tree-lined wooded areas of Coney Mall.

This is slightly off-topic, but not something I think is worth starting an entire topic for. The mention of things not there any more, along with old photos, has me remembering the family trips we used to take to KI about once a year (though we did have season passes one year). It seems like when I was a kid, all the rides in HB Land shut down at 8, which was always a big disappointment - the park was open til 10, but after 8 there wasn't much I could ride. Am I remembering things wrong, or did they actually close HB at 8 at one point?

Or perhaps http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Mason,%20Ohio&wuSelect=WEATHER which is not far from KI.

The crappy online grades system costing $2 million sounds about typical for Cincinnati - spend a ton of money on something that doesn't work very well. If they really cared, they'd invest in Blackboard. I'm not sure how their K-12 systems are, but the college one is pretty good and the professors (teachers) have a lot of control. If that's too expensive, there's always Moodle (which is completely free).

Glad to see that they answered my question today. I'm looking forward to the ice show this year. Last year's was a lot of fun so hopefully this year's will be good as well.

And now we learn exactly why the Knotts were so unhappy with the deal. When you're holding 2 million units, you definitely want to get every nickel you can for them.

According to who.is, the domain doesn't expire until July of next year, so it's likely that they just haven't linked it yet.

I dare anyone to find a commercial more annoying than this one: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d7iOMTNmQg&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&hd=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d7iOMTNmQg&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d7iOMTNmQg&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

They may not be well-known to you, but I've heard of most of the people performing this year. All nights should be good, as long as I can manage to pull myself away from the rides long enough (last year I ended up skipping most of the shows in favor of riding stuff instead ). Here are the websites for all the bands/artists for those who are curious The Basement Experience Abandon (MySpace) Fireflight Tenth Avenue North Family Force 5 (MySpace) Third Day Tom Richter Yellow Cavalier KJ-52 The Afters David Crowder Band Casting Crowns CJ Blount (MySpace) The Skit Guys Remedy Drive Brandon Heath Chris Tomlin Toby Mac Should be some good shows this year

Thanks again for your insight and thoughts on the situation Terp. I don't know what we'd do without you

I'll have to ride it opening day before I make my final decision on it. I loved the old Smurf ride and Scooby. I never rode it when it was Phantom Theater. This looks interesting but not sure it'll be as much fun as Scooby was.
