Windseeker & Coney Mall Construction Continues
Avatar replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
It is way to early to even start discussing how long the actual ride cycle will take other than what we have been told through press releases and marketing information. When WindSeeker opens and only then will we be able to know what it truly is. They love us to discuss WindSeeker to build anticipation and the fact they posted something about it would say they are getting close to opening. What I got out of the video was I m loving the lighting package. -
WildCat at CP Crashed! (again)
Avatar replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I rode it this past Friday night with coaster friends and we were amazed at how well and smooth our ride was, especially knowing the age of the coaster. If the state of Ohio says it is OK and knowing Cedar Fairs safety policy I will not hesitate in getting on wildcat again on my next visit to Cedar Point. -
Thanks for posting but this video was already posted in the WindSeeker construction thread here http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23358&view=findpost&p=429990 I think that is the best place for it so i am closing this thread and encourage the discussion on this video there.

If I had to guess I would say that in the rush to get the exhibit opened with the short time they decided to go with it this year and all the rain during that time, then they cut down the trees and removed the stumps they pulled them out to the open area you seen. At a later time (like when you seen it) do the removal or chipping of the rubbish.

Shew.... I read the post first and got worried about a burial of an old dinosaur then realized it was you who posted that, I do not worry no more.

CoasterGeek101 just remember that is Kirks opinion and others may not share that opinion. If Kings Island or the performers insisted they were not to be filmed or photographed during a rehearsal then one of two things should have happen. 1) have all stage rehearsals after hours or closed to the public or 2) make an announcement that video and photographing the rehearsal is prohibited. Basically you did nothing wrong and maybe someday when the performers make it big they will appreciate a old video of something like that. Now Kirk may not want those type of videos or photographs on his site and that is what he is comfortable with and the image he wants to project on his site, well that is great too.

I did not hear him or anyone else say it was unsafe for wooden coasters to be over 80 feet. Not sure where you got that. Maybe, maybe not on your second question but from being there and my interpretation of his body language and the way he said it, I would not bet on the Texas giant route. But others there interpreted it differently so who knows.
-
I agree on the premiss about no wooden coaster over 80 feet tall seems a bit odd but maybe with all the new technology and the wood cost versus steel Mr Kinzel maybe right on with what he knows from his current position.

I was there for the Q & A and it seems they looked into the TG treatment but the cost to do it so high that they entertain the thought to use that money to replace it.

Holiday World wants your input

Thanks for the info and link; I voted for a Dive coaster, I think it would be unique for this area and fit nicely there. I would;d buy a season pass to just ride a Dive coaster often. -
great update pikeman77 and again wonderful report. I might add a few more SOB notes from Mr. Kinzel since several members seem to want to know every detail about SOB. Mr. Kinzel also said about SOB; Paramount had 35-40 million in it and Cedar Fair put 8 million into it. He said the last quote they got 2 years ago to do a Texas type treatment would cost 20 million. There for they are weighing all options as even to getting rid of SOB and take the 20 million and put another thrill ride there. They just want to what a bit longer maybe 2-3 years and see what answers emerge during that time. He also said they feel any wood coaster over 80 feet starts to loose its integrity and value to the parks due to various reasons. Hence the reason pikeman77 reference to look for more steel coasters to come.

Thank you CoasterGeeek101 for sharing something that YOU enjoyed so much about the park that you wanted to share with the rest of us here. I enjoyed watching your video and encourage you to continue sharing what you enjoy when visiting Kings Island. I think that even the most cynical critic would have to admit the entertainment under Cedar Fair is far superior than it was during the last several years when Kings Island was under the Paramount heading. I for one and I speak for my family as well enjoy the entertainment at Kings Island very much and glad we have shows now to watch to break up or park touring days.

pikeman77 thanks for your report and if you do not mind I will add a few things about my thoughts about Coaster Mania First since I was in attendance to hear Mr. Kinzel speak I can drop another small hint while you wait for pikeman77 to fill you in on the rest; Mr. Kinzel said " No decision has been made at this time" I was a bit surprised as to his candor on certain subjects and even more surprised when it came to questions from the audience that many asked more park related questions that a GM from those parks could have answered rather than more corporate type questions that we rarely get to hear about especially during a time that Mr. Kinzel seemed to be so open with his answers. I truly enjoyed Coaster Mania and this trip we tried to do more than coasters and I think that experience is what made me deem this trip a successful one. Coaster Mania was educational, entertaining, thrilling adventuresome, friendship bonding and so worth every minute spent on the trip. Of course there are some short falls here and there but minor compared to all the other great experiences as i mentioned above. My Coaster mania experience has gave me a greater appreciation for Cedar Point and I look forward to many more trips there especially with the family.

Same here, we were at Coaster Mania from Friday till today. As far as Cedar Points WindSeeeker it look like Kings Island WindSeeeker with the same type of work in progress. It did go up and down a bit over Friday and Saturday and at one point while we were watching All Wheels Extreme show yesterday WindSeeker did spin around at a decent speed but only about 30 feet off the ground. Shortly after that not much more than the usually work scene we have all grown accustom to. I did like Cedar Points WindSeeker location a lot. It will give great views of the lake and while sitting on the edge of the amusement park border it will allow a great view of the park with out too much need to look straight down. -
You know I always heard good things about that place and the food as well. I have wanted to go by there but somehow get distracted with rides and shows and so forth, maybe next time.

Nice Video and thanks for sharing. Maybe you would be interested in putting a video together for the KICentral Video Contest, information can be found here. http://www.KICentral...showtopic=23825

Colonels - I would love to love to hear some Magic Kingdome guest replies mainly because they would probably be about what I have said or done when we vacationed down there. Trust me I can laugh at myself but….I know how Disney feels about these kinds of posts about their guests especially from cast member. So you may want to think twice right now as I would not want a funny story about me or another MK guest spoil your fun during a wonderful opportunity you are experiencing. Maybe when you can at a later date. Trust me I am not telling you to not too but just saying think twice right now in posting in this thread, I mean this thread hangs by just the thinnest of threads right now and is just one guest insult away from being closed. I don't know if that actually is a stupid question...i'm not sure I consider it a ride. Here is a photo I made for my Disney trip photoalbum a few years ago" This "ride" is one of the biggest embarrassments that I think exists at WDW...probably second only to the backlot tour. (IMHO) standbyme - I admit The Great Movie ride may be past its prime and I vowed not to ride it again but one day when it rained and we had the time burn I broke that vowel and glad I did. See after doing the first time with high expectations I just went with the flow the second time around and honestly enjoyed it much better. Let me know what you think about it your second time around too.

185139 I hope you had fun with your dad on your visit to Kings Island. In the future if you would like to share when you went you may want to add some details of your day either in a special memory or about the rides ect… . I see some long time posters including myself took the time to open this thread to read about your experience so give us more detail in future reports, thanks. It looks as if a couple very valued and longtime members tried to give you some helpful advice and did not yell at you but made some suggestion on ways that may help you assimilate in posting for the enjoyment of all KICentral members, I hope that you took it that way. I did (Thanks guys)

Fun topic and fun read so far so I weigh in too. Well I'll start with were it all began: Kings Island sometime in the summer of 1972 My Grandfather who was a teamster truck driver and drove a route daily past Kings Island. As he drove by everyday he watched the progress and the birth of Kings Island from the interstate, So he decided to take the whole family including his wife 2 daughters, his son and 6 grand children at that time. This was an extremely rare occasion. Well I being from Indianapolis and my house sat almost right next to the Indianapolis 500 3rd turn, I had no idea what to expect so arriving at Kings Island was like walking into another world. I'll try to keep to my grandfather, he was what you would say an old fart!! He loved his beer and spent little time with his family but loved us dearly. So he paid for all us to get in, everyone took pictures and we all marveled at the International Street and the spectacular fountain under the Eiffel Tower (keeping in mind this was in 1972). He quickly gave all the parents some money and sent us all on our way, because his first stop was going to be the Oktoberfest Der Alte Deutsche Bier Garten to belly up and swap stories with the other old farts. After a short while we meet back up with him and we were so excited and were telling him stories about what we had been doing earlier in the day at the park, (next is one of the great memories) I never seen that man smile and have such a proud look on his face, he had that look like he was going to get the grandparent of the year award. I'll never forget it in all my life, I can still see it as if he was sitting right her next to me now. He decided to take a ride with us, and since we were right next to the Swiss Sky Ride that went across the park that's where we were going, plus he could ride right back!! I was in the same Swiss Sky Rider car as he was, and when we got to the higher part and at one of switch poles he started to sweat and gripping the hand rails real tight. We didn't know if it was the alcohol so we asked him if he was OK and he answered with (another great memory) the following I'm so scared and my ass is so tight that I couldn't sh*t a BB right now if I wanted!!!! Well me being almost eight years old, and hearing him say that was pretty big stuff and very funny. Needless to say he didn't ride back but instead opted to walk all the way back to the Der Alte Deutsche Bier Garten and the rest of us went on with the rest of our day.

First of all that picture makes it look worse than it probably is. It looks like the worker is just using a hand held grinder which makes a lot of sparks. I mean it could be just a simple thing they are working on or not, but I would not judge by looking at that picture. I know when they open it that it will be safe and I am glad they are taking the time to make it that way, although the rain delay excuse is getting a little hard to swallow at this point. One last point we do not know if the riders at Canada's Wonderland WindSeeker were the general public or staff only.
