Be a Part of a World Record at KI, Sept 20th
marlfox_21 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
It sounds like someone has watched Alan Jackson's music video to the song "GoodTimes" one time too many. In the video, Alan is attempting to create the world's longest linedance. But hey it sounds like a Good Time anyway. Enjoy. -
Son of Beast. I remember waiting just over 3 hours for it on it's opening day.

I thought that the $30.00 was a bit much. I had to stare at the table for a double take to make sure that I was actually reading the prices correctly. I simply had them autograph their pictures on the park map, with the show schedule. The Two guys ( Greg and Bobby Brady ) were reluctant to speak without making a purchase, which I thought was kinda awkward. But Susan, ( Cindy Brady ) was quite pleasant, and when I asked her if they were gonna ride "The Racer" again, she politely corrected me. She said that yes, they had all taken 3 rides on "The Racer" earlier that morning, and that it was her first time to ride it because she had not done so as a child. She told me to watch the episode to revue the fact that she was not on the ride. Something that otherwise I would not have known. It has been countless years since I have seen The Cincinnati Kids Brady episode. But really, she was quite pleasant. This has been my 3rd trip to the Park this season. Once for Knievel, Once for Wallenda, and Once for the Brady's. It will most likely be my last, unless I decide to go to the Haunt. I would like to say KUDOS to Cedar Fair for bringing events like these to the park on a year without the introduction of a new ride. It makes up for it in my personal view. Awkwardly enough, like ( Greg Brady, not Slim Shady, goodness that song was annoying in my opinion. ) Anyways like he pointed out, Paramount was the studio that made the Brady Bunch. Weird in my opinion that it took Cedar Fair to bring them back. Keep up the good work Cedar Fair. You've captured my attention from Florida 3 times. M.F.

They could make it into a walk through reptile hall. Like a One Way Herp House. But that would require the return of animals to the park. Although easy to maintain. It wouldn't need to be a lot of animals, but it would certainly require one really cool Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. And that would not even require a lot of people to take care of. Heck, I could do it.

Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)
marlfox_21 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Boy has it been a long time since I have had an opportunity to look anything up. This ride is gonna be sweet! Diamondback. In the flyer, it said that I may experience an unexplained attraction to reptiles. GEE....Imagine that happening to a guy like me. Not that the ride would have anything to do with it. But, looks great. Crotalus Adamanteus. SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!! -
I have seen cruel signs that make fun of stupidity before. I LOVE THEM!!!! Just go to The Wilds in Ohio.... 1.) They have a sign which reads, "DON'T EVEN THINK OF SMOKING IN THIS AREA!" 2.) They also have "DANGER!, CAUTION!, PLEASE DO NOT LEAN OVER RAILS, YOU COULD FALL IN AND GET ATTACKED OR EATEN BY WILD ANIMALS. THIS COULD MAKE THE ANIMALS SICK. THANK YOU!" 3.) SILVER SPRINGS in Ocala, Florida has signs that actually read "THINK" and "USE COMMON SENSE." You also find these signs in the back areas of reptile houses. Some people might get offended by these types of signs. I personally think that they are hilarious.
-
The question is not delivered to me, but I would like to see a sign that reads, CAUTION, DANGER, DON'T EVEN THINK OF JUMPING THIS FENCE!, Barbed Wire, Cactus Plants, Poison Ivy, Nettles, poison oak, thorn bushes, and a 2nd smaller fence to jump after jumping the 1st one. But since this is too expensive, cruel and unusual, I would like to settle for just a little bit of common sense. But obviously that wasn't present at the time now, was it?

Being that in theory, or in speculation, the giant dwarf star dubbed Planet-X or Nibiru, hence the Mayan calendar, is going to be visible with the naked eye in March of 2009. ( In accordance with the Mayan's this body should pass through our solar system and the Earth by 12/21/12 ) I would name the in theory, and in speculation giant attraction by the same name. ......"NIBIRU".

I rarely, if ever, see lines of any great length at the food places, but there is always a huge line of people getting their hands stamped for reentry around lunch time... You would think that management would figure this out, but they apparently don't get the basic economic principle that a reduction in demand should result in a lower price. Until they do, they will continue to nickle and dime (oops, forget the "dime") us to death and the parking lot will be the most popular food location at the park. Well, Ruby Tuesday's was pretty good. And only about a 15 minute walk from the park. Although, I would not recommend walking it with children. But for an adults only day at the park..OH YEAH, I would. Although next time, I think that I will go to Outback Steakhouse.

YES I DID!!!! He needed to have a giant sign with an arrow stating "LIABILITY"

Well now, I must say that I rather enjoyed my stay at Kings Island on May 24th. I took the time to get my picture taken with Dino! Along with a couple of friends. I took pictures of some of the new scenery. ( The new ride names, and construction ) And of course, I watched the Knievel Jump, along with the stunts, and the Skydiving. Which if I may say so, was very cool. I also got a pretty descent movie of the jump from the back of the truck, in the closest spot to the block off area for parking in a row where the entire jump area was clearly visible. All in all, I must apologize if it seems like my article should be in the trip reports column. Here is why it is different. I am referring to food prices. Upon walking into the park, I could not help but to feel the mood of the day. It was exciting. And very different from recent visits. I managed to ride Firehawk, Flight of Fear, Vortex, The Beast, Backlot S.C., Flight Deck, and I went up the Eiffel Tower. And this was all from park open until about 2 p.m. At about that time, me and my friends were getting pretty hungry, so we decided to go and look for some food. I looked at the food, and then I looked at the prices. LOL I'm sorry, I have nothing but positive emotions for the park, but these prices are a bit uhhh...Pricey. I am most certainly not bad off on money, but I mean come on, the 2 people that I went with were my guests. I was not going to be willing to pay $5.00 for dippin dots ( just for 1 chosen example ) And we were not going to lose our parking spot for the Knievel jump, so if anyone saw 3 guys wearing black dress shirts walking in front of the park, and in front of the Great Wolf Lodge, and take the cross walk there across Kings Island Drive, and up to Ruby Tuesdays, then congratulations. You saw me walk down the street to pay about the same amount of money for better quality food.

I was wondering, for those of you who have been to the park this year, what is the mood of the park? Has it changed at all? Is it more cheery, colorful, or is it pretty much the same that it has always been? Has Cedar Fair taken any steps to improve the park's landscaping? Planting more flowers for example. I will know soon enough, but I am hoping for outside opinions.

WOW, it has really been a while since I have been on here. I have been a busy lil bee. Anywho... I was wondering how many people were planning on attending the Knievel jump this Saturday. Go ahead and allow yourselves to be known. I am going to be up in Ohio visiting "THE WILDS" following their Giraffes becoming Cincinnati's again. So I have made plans to make a stop at Kings Island on Saturday with an old friend from High School who will be graduating from Wilmington College with a 4 year degree in accounting soon. I honestly did not even realize that it was the day of Knievel's jump until a couple of hours ago. But it is a very welcome surprise. Anyways, I am looking forward to seeing Kings Island for the 1st time this year. I meant to go on their 2nd weekend, but that just did not work out. This time will be different.

I truly have no idea how Kings Island controls animal populations. And to be honest, until this post, I have never given it any true thought. I have my guesses, but I could be nowhere near the truth. State parks ( specifically in Florida ) use natural smells, visuals, and sounds that unwanted animals naturally stay away from. Ichetucknee Springs State Park in FL. actually releases bacteria, and attempts to control viruses released into animal populations, to control numbers in areas where there are simply too many people to hunt safely. This is not an unusual attempt for squirrel populations. However, I must stress the fact that I am in no way claiming to know what Kings Island does, if they do anything.

I have to agree with Gordon. How did this topic go from discussing attempts to control overpopulated animals to whatever you said about the elderly?

What was your first "big kid" ride you went on at KI?
marlfox_21 replied to Cortney's topic in Kings Island
My first big kid ride was the Adventure Express. I remember the lift hill scaring the bejeesees out of me. This ride was a result of my sister, who influenced my mother to get onto the ride with me. On another trip, my sister who worked at the park in 1993, agreed to let me go with her for a day as long as I rode all of the coasters with her. I was skeptical, but in this order I rode The Racer ( Backwards ), The Vortex, and then The Beast. The Beast scared more than the bejeesees out of me, and I remember The Vortex taking my breath away, and The Racer was just as sweet as could be. Thanks to my sister, and this day at the park, I have to this day been a coaster junky. THANKS SIS!!!! -
Top five things you'd like to bring back/change
marlfox_21 replied to IheartKI's topic in Kings Island
The top 5 things that I would change or bring back are the following: 1. The Smurfs Enchanted Voyage 2. The Skyride 3. The Antique Cars ( I would make them electric ) 4. Wild Animal Habitat, and all related shows 5. Unique dining experiences. Not mostly restaurant brands that you can find anywhere. -
I am not doubting you. They are known to be in this region, so a copperhead is probably what you saw. And by running away from it, let me applaud you. Always step away from a snake that you know is dangerous, or one that you cannot identify. ( <- my personal pun ) Agkistrodon Contortrix is considerably mildly venomous with an LD/50 of only about 9. Meaning it's neurotoxin is going to give you a nasty hospital sleepover, but you should be fine. Not that I would recommend getting bitten by one. I consider you fortunate. After all, it is a good story to tell. However, even though I recognize that K.I. is naturally in a wooded area, I would not blame anyone with children to be disturbed to here this. However, the ratio of finding one, especially one next to the trail is a favoring factor.

Hi Cormaster. It appears that you have had a pretty bad day at the park. I am so sorry to hear about that. But hey, it could always be worse. My fiances parents for example, recently recieved a letter threatening foreclosure on their new home, only because her fathers work hours very unexpectedly got cut back for a while. But hey, I'm paying to get them back ahead, and his hours are picking up again, so they should be just fine. In other words, bad, sometimes terrible days present themselves, but good things always wait around the corner. I certainly hope that your next visit will be better than this one. I fully understand that somethimes events just seem to add up very quickly, and can turn someones day around completely. So I don't want for you to think that I do not understand. But I must stand my ground. I am not by any means a moderator of this site. However, as a repetitive visitor of KICentral I must speak for those who are. You say that many people on this site are a----l--s, and that is why you do not come here a lot. You are clearly entitled to your opinion of each individual response that you encounter while you are on this site. However, when you violate that privilege by using vulgar language, it is no longer a debate or an opinion that your choice of words is intolerable. It is now a fact. Many of the mods on this website speak their minds, from my personal viewing experience by using facts, research, and supported opinions, that may be offensive at times, but none the less are meant to make the intended reader think, rethink, and allow personal growth. There is a lot of collective experience and wisdom on KI Central. And it goes far beyond that of just an amusement park. This is why visitors such as myself continue to visit the site. Even from Florida. I find this topic to be valid based on the facts that your opinions and your occurrances have strong points. Costs of food, Points of view about ride restraints, possible lack of professional service from park associates are examples of these. But If I may point out to you, not to be rude, but in an attempt to be helpful. A smile, and a polite approach that expresses what you do not like about a business and why, along with some positives, to help show that you are not all pessimistic, really do go a lot farther with a companies point of view than screaming obsenities in a park full of children. Because to be honest, had you been screaming in front of a child of mine, or a child in my charge, I would have probably gone to security under the impression that you may be considered a threat to the people around you. This is a serious factor that you may want to consider the next time you feel the need to go into a rage in a public place, or at home. Once again, I hope that things work out better for you in the future. On the 3rd operational day, at dawn, look to the east. ( lol ) I will be visiting the park with some reps. of the A.Z.A.

Cedar Fair is master of the Spelleeing Bea.

I do not want for anyone to question where this came from. This is from "The Pulse Journal" and is a staff report, from March 31, 2008. ( so everyone knows this is not plaguarism ) I currently have no way to copy, paste, etc., so I am simply going to type it out. Kings Island LOSES $20M INSURANCE CASE Kings Island cannot collect more than $20 mil. in insurance damages from Admiral Insurance Company, the 12th District Court of Appeals ruled. In November, 2000, Paramount filed a complaint in the trial court against RCCO for breach of contract, breach of warranties and negligence, involving the Son of Beast coaster. The coaster had flaws resulting in K. I. having to close the ride several times. A Son of Beast accident also sent 27 people to the hospital in 2006. K.I. continues to deal with lawsuits filed in Warren County Common Pleas Court stemming from that accident. In 2002, a federal court granted Paramount a default judgement against RCCO, and in 2005, ordered RCCO to pay more than $20 mil. in damages to Paramount. Paramount then asked Admiral to pay the damages, and Admiral refused. In 2006 Paramount filed a complaint against Admiral, alleging that Admiral was required to pay the damages. On April 26,2007, a trial court granted judgement in favor of Admiral and against Paramount, finding that Paramount's claims against RCCO were not covered by the policy. On appeal, Paramount argued that the trial court erred by granting judgement in favor of Admiral. Paramount claimed that RCCO's shoddy workmanship caused the wood on Son of Beast to break, and that the breaking of the wood was an accident, and Paramount negligence claims against RCCO were covered by the policy. As a result, according to Kings Island, Admiral was required to pay the damage award of more than $20 mil. But the 12th District Court of Appeals announced this week that it has upheld the trial court's decision. The presiding judge noted that Admiral's policy applies to property damage only if the aproperty damage is caused by an accident. The judge also noted that claims for negligent manufacture or for defective or negligent workmanship are generally not covered under such a policy. This judge ruled, and 2 other judges concurred, that Paramount's negligence claims were not covered under the policy because the complaint never alleged an accident. The judge had stated that, although on appeal Paramount alleged that an accident occurred- that is, the wood on Son of Beast broke- Paramount never alleged that fact in its original complaint. The judge concluded that because Paramount's claims were not covered under this policy, Admiral was not required to pay the damage award to Paramount. King Island officials could not be reached for comment.

That's an understatement. What is old will become new. What is new will become old. It will all be so confusing. The future of the Cincinnati Zoo should help to shape the future of many zoo's. Let me give you a hint. MASSIVE. If you desire to know more, contact me again, and I may be cooperative. I would go into more detail here, but you would probably think that it is too much of a transformation and false information. But you should know me better than that by now.

In case people tend to notice, I have had many more responses over the last couple of days than usual. The reason for this is that I am enjoying my current freedom of having a week here in Ohio. Today I took a little journey up and down I-71, leading me 1st to The Cincinnati Zoo, where I had lunch with a couple of friends and discussed some topics. Secondly, I again took a little stroll down I-71, this time leading me to Kings Island. My goal here was to surprise a good friend of mine, and take this person out to dinner. I thought that I would be able to approach the K.I. Human Resources department, and simply have them make a phone call within the park, to get this person's attention. As far as this assumption, I can only say that I could not have been any more wrong. First, a delightful chap attempted to make the call, but ultimately did not know the number. At this point, I did not want to take up their time, so I politely told the man, not to worry about it. He insisted, and involved another person, and another person, until I was so embarrased for asking the question that all that I wanted to do was just leave the room. But politely, I stayed. I tried to keep a smile, but out of 3 people, not one of them seemed capable of finding a simple phone number within the park. Don't get me wrong, they tried, but ultimately, I found the number simply by looking across the room at a phone directory on the wall, behind their counter. By then, I was so embarrased, because I felt as though I had just wasted the salary and time of 3 people, after I had told the man not to worry about it. I am not trying to be cruel. But this same man, was giving out phone numbers to other associates in front of me, saying that he could not help them, but to call the number he was giving them. Come on, they are physically at the park. If you cannot help them there, how is a phone call going to do it? And there was a girl in front of me. I don't know what position she had applied for, but her argument was that she had been contacting the park for about a month to find out her application status, without success, and she was told that the position that she had applied for had already been filled. Could they not have called to let her know? Or brought her in for an interview about a month ago? Finally, when I first walked into the building, the "CLOSED" sign was hanging on an "OPEN" building. I do not usually attack the park. But if I were a Cedar Fair rep. seeing all of this in less than half an hours time, I think that (to be fair, and professional ) I would be very concerned about what I am not seeing. hoping for a good 08" season m.f.
