Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

Haha!! I think people are also forgetting that erecting steel can be a very quick process with the proper prep work...remember on the coaster shows...they put up the pretzel loop and a turn on Tatsu all in one day, and similarly, they did the Immelman on Griffon all in one day, not to mention Griffon was still erecting track in late March and still opened on time the 2nd week of May. While Behemoth had a lot more work done at this time last year, they got little done in December (which shouldn't be KI's situation), and I'm leaving it in the hands of the experts!! -
Cedar Point Plans Lean Winter

^^Although, I still like Gravity Group better. WRONG!!! No seat belts, nothing like MF's lapbar! But when does the media always get things right?! To the GP everything is the same. Haha!! Although even the dimmest of riders would notice the difference between MF and D-back restraints, point still well taken. But it's not like we're comparing Gerstlauers to Millennium Flyers!? -

Well Disaster Transport will not be going anywhere, Cedar Point is not in the business of removing rollercoasters and DP still almost averages 1 Million riders a year, so it is still a very popular ride. Not to mention that CP spent millions to enclose and transfor Avalance Run to DP. This is a rumor that continues just like the one about Vortex. I would look for CP to use the company that is doing the retracking on Mean Streak to eventually build a woodie at the front of the park near Wicked Twister, but I have also heard that it might push out in to the parking lot a little bit. After all CP would love to add some nostalgia back to their boardwalk. Agreed...everything I've heard is that "commitments" with roller coaster manufactures are bogus, CF's bad relationship with Intamin is on a much higher level than just Maverick and WT, and also that DD is now going nowhere. As for a new attraction?? The small wooden coasters like Renegade, RFII, and Evel Knevel have proved to be cheap and compact, yet very thrilling and fun...i.e. Prowler being built, the CGA one, Terminator at SFMM...I could totally see CP getting something similar, especially since their wood collection is small, MS is hated by many, and big steel coasters are more expensive, encumbering, and not as family friendly. -

And ALSO keep in mind that CP went from 2000 to 2007 with MAJOR additions and more additions than KI has virtually had in its entire existance!! Two years without a major addition is not that big of a deal...especially when Maverick still has massive lines the year after it already opened. And keep in mind, who's to say CP isn't going to get a major addition in 2010 or 2011...I could easily see a major B&M hyper or record-breaking GCI/GG/or even B&M one-of-a kind wood coaster like El Toro (only not an Intamin since CP hates Intamin now). -

^^It's not "confusing" per se, but it's just not very streamlined...I mean, the queue for the front row for the right/further back loading point just flat out sucks, and oftentimes you have to guard against people cutting for the front row like a mad Canadian goose protecting a nest. Likewise, the left/front loading point also has a tiny front row queue, and usually the long line against the back rails of the station backs-up to the left side entry turnstile, which unnecessarily holds up the line down the ramp. Similarly, the line for the back row on the left side also backs-up to the turnstile and holds up the left ramp. In addition, the station is very small, so it's hard for people to move around, and easily backs-up the ramps and allows for people to pulse the line at the turnstiles if they want. While I'm in favor of that to a degree, many times it gets pulsed for too long by people wanting for the front, which can be frustrating when queues for other rows start to dwindle and I start seeing empty seats go out. Bottom line, it sucks and leaves much to be desired, especially when the station layouts for Ka and Storm Runner are designed much better!! Thankfully D-back's station should be pretty roomy!! -
What coaster are you?
tigellinus replied to UncleHenry's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes but this green giant nabs you with some nice horse collars! And migrane-inducing vibrations on either of the green trains!! Tiggy, still thinking his rides this summer on the orange train (f/k/a schoolbus) were smoother than any TTD rides. Btw, for the survey, I'm TTD...darn it!! I was hoping for Superman! -
^^Or the other 2009 Coaster Rumor thread in the summer of 2007 that was legit speculation (I think, anyway?) that was active before First Drop magazine blurbs or any land clearing of any kind.

So wait a minute...all these art related booths, kiosks, and services like the keyhole photo, the facepainting, the caricatures, etc. are all 3rd-party endeavors contracted out by CF?!? Wow!?! Why not just contract out the games too! Is the 3-point shoot-out an actual CF operation or not?? Tiggy, learnin' more and more about the industry day by day, even though it does make perfect sense...

Wow! That does sound a lot better than Winterfest!!

The TTD station is the worst. Agreed!! Both Kingda Ka and Storm Runner are the ideal stations for Intamin rockets! That's because they ARE pretty much identical. Both 230 feet with 215 foot 74 degree drops... both have a slight kink and pull-out to the right... HMMMM. How dare people accuse B&M of making 'cookie-cutter' layouts. Well to be fair, Behemoth's drop is 75 degrees and it was never said officially how tall the drop is. Behemoth's is the full 230'... You'll notice the track goes all the way to the ground. -
I think the biggest reason was that it was too expensive (like $25 for adults) with not a lot to do! Other than ice skating on the fountains, what else was there?? I'm pretty sure no rides ran...and also, as living right by KI for Winterfest in 05, yes, it did snow like 5 inches on a Thursday night (I think Dec. 8th), but other than that, I don't care what people say, the weather was NOT that bad other than that snow! Cold temps? Yes, but nothing freezing, and I recall a couple weekends in the 40's. I also think the promotion was sort of weak in fully explaining Winterfest.
