Uh sorry I don't want to have to pay to put my hat or other loose article in a locker when I could just put it in a bin at the ride platform. I hate how you can't do this on Firehawk and it sounds like they are enforcing policies just as non-guest friendly at other rides.

SFKK: Girl Injured in Accident
neo8820 replied to joecoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow what a pleasure to speak to you since you actually have first hand knowledge of the ride. So if the ride op e-stopped at any point before the cars release at the top what would happen? I'm assuming the cars stop rising if not at the top or if at the top they don't release. I do have a question you say the brakes lock when you estop. Which brakes are you talking about because I always thought the brakes on the cars had no moving parts. That is why the cars rise slowly and then suddenly speed up after they exit the part of the ride with the brakes. -
Do you think the lights might be infrared? In other words you can't see the light and the video would have that green tint to it?

Jersey Shore Log Flume Accident
neo8820 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Here is an interesting site with good information about ride accidents. According to this site the SFKK happened first. I guess the point I'm trying to make is it seems the news is covering these types of accidents more than they normally would. I didn't know if it might be because of the high profile accident at SFKK. It just seems a little odd that a child drowning at a wave pool made national news. http://www.rideaccidents.com/ -
Jersey Shore Log Flume Accident

Does anyone think that there have been more accidents at parks this year or is the news just more sensitive to it after the accident at SFKK? -
I really liked the slider last year. Not sure if that is his real name or not but he got me everytime he slid down the sidewalk with sparks flying from his legs.
-
Preventative maintenance after 1 year of extended closure? Of course that is understandable considering that it wasn't until the past month or so that Sonny came back to life. I'm sure a lot of things popped up once things got "rollin" again.

You got me I would have been 10 in 91 so my memory is crap

Let's all remember how quickly Flight Commander was removed after the woman fell from it. Once a ride gets a bad rep it is hard to recover.

Do we not have any insiders in the PR department anymore that might be able to shed some light on the situation? Maureen seemed to give us the inside scoop a lot.

I agree with you. I went to KI last week instead of waiting for 8/4/07 to ride sob and Firehawk. SOB was down but Firehawk made up for it.
-
I tend to agree. If the G trains are anything like the ones on Twisted Whatevers at SFKK I don't see how they could hold up on a wooden train as big and violent as SOB.
-
I love WWC and the cannons. Last time I rode them we got paired up with some people we didn't know who were being really bad and standing up to avoid getting wet when water came over the side of the tube. Big no no! A ride op saw it closed one of the gates and soaked us with a cannon a good 3 or 4 times. What sucked is my wife and I weren't the ones standing up and got DRENCHED too. I like it when the ride ops have personality

No it's where the train doesn't have enough speed to make it through the circuit. It gets stuck in a "valley" of track. ooh, sounds like fun, i wanna get stuck vallying on a ride, seriously, it would be an amazing experience... i wanna get stuck on a ride so bad. be the last car to run on a particular ride, or something. Check out the link that I included. Being stuck upside down for 3+ hours doesn't sound like much fun which is what happened with The Vampire.

I heard that it had vallied sometime friday, which I would believe before the lightning theory..lol. Boomerang style coasters are know for vallying so. Yes they sure are. The vampire at SFKK did this several times in it's last season before it was relocated. http://timelines.home.insightbb.com/sfkk_years.htm

That's interesting. How did they bring it down manually? I'm guessing they didn't push it

Listen to you...almost as bad as rumor buster or whatever his name is

SFKK: Girl Injured in Accident
neo8820 replied to joecoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
New information regarding the girl whose feet were amputated by SFKK Superman Tower of Power. She was released from the hospital, her parents are sueing SFKK and 911 tapes are released. One of the callers who placed a 911 call on that day was interviewed since he witnessed the accident. He claims the cable broke when the car was only 15 feet off the ground. Her feet weren't amputated until the ride dropped which is when the cable wrapped around her feet and pulled them off (ouch). My question is can the Intamin Giant Drop rides be e-stopped which would have prevented the car from dropping? If the cable really broke when the car was 15 feet off the ground there would have been aprox 20 seconds until the gondola reached the top of the tower and dropped. Plenty of time for an attentive ride op to e-stop. According to this witness it wasn't the cable breaking that caused the injury but her feet getting tangled in the cable on the way down. http://www.whas11.com/topstories/stories/0...t.739d692d.html -
I absolutely agree. I really like Sonny even though it beat the crap out of my knees (this was last season a few days before the incident). I haven't had a chance to ride it this season but it sounds like they are making some very positive changes. I would really like to know what's going on with it though. It worries me they have it shut down only a few days after it reopened. Too bad Maureen isn't still with KI she seemed to give us the inside scoop a lot. Do we have a good relationship with her replacement?

I agree it did stink that SOB wasn't open yesterday. However, yesterday was such a great day that SOB being closed didn't spoil it for me. I got there around 11 and the weather was PERFECT all day long. The crowds weren't too large either. I think to longest I waited was maybe an hour for Firehawk which was great! I was at Carowinds a few weeks ago. I know Firehawk and Borg are very similar (if not the same) but Firehawk seems to go slower at the end and give you more "fly" time. I know this has been discussed before but I find the stop at the brakes in FOF to be a bit odd. All in all I had a great time yesterday.

Yes, and there isn't really a way to correct it. Sometimes you get a rollback. There are several reasons for example, after it rains roll backs are more likely. Also, I would assume if it was windy that could make the train lose some of it's energy as it was climbing to the top.
-
There are videos out there of a rollback. There is even a video of the ride stuck on top of the top hat. I don't have links for either but I am sure there are members on the site who can provide them. Never been on a rollback yet but I hope for one every time I ride TTD. There are several videos on youtube. http://youtube.com/results?search_query=to...agster+rollback
