I actually noticed that too. I'm hoping that it was because people were simply too busy with it being opening day to pay full attention to those types of details. I did however see an area manager instruct someone to put out a cigarette and walk over to the smoking section and relight it.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the acoustics thing you mentioned was intentional. The building was designed with live shows in mind, so I don't think it was just overall bad. I did also notice that the sound is quite a bit lower for this show, though. I would attribute this to the fact that they want people to be able to both watch the show and hold a conversation if they choose.

You actually make a very valid point... but probably not the point that you were trying to make. Many people go to Kings Island is their big thing each summer. For a lot of local families, their one visit to Kings Island is the equivalent to a wealthier family's annual trip to Disney... and trust me, the park DOES realize that. That's a BIG reason why they're doing what they're doing this season... they could have added a throw-together thrill ride on the cheap, but they didn't. It may be hard for a lot of the people on this site to take this perspective, but they actually took the high road this year by adding shows instead. This stuff isn't cheap... but look at the outcome: let's say that Cormaster's wife isn't able to ride anything this season. The park now has something to offer her that isn't a ride. Same goes for parents with small children. I mean, what would she do two years ago if they decided to go to the park? See School of Rock five times? People need to see KIC as a tool for getting answers and information about KI. I agree that sometimes the negativity gets out of hand on here, but your thoughts and comments are read and acted on. I do encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions with us... I just ask that you keep an open mind, especially when we're still on the tail end of a transition period. Things will work out... for the much much better...

Bad seeds are bad seeds, but I totally understand why teenagers and kids are ****ed off all the time. If you strip away the fun and care free side of childhood that doesn't exist, you're dealing with poor people with limited access to resources and basically no civil liberties. I was ****ed at that age too.

You mean you waited a long time to ride Invertigo. I think Vertigo is a disease of some sort. Glad you had a good time.
-
I completely agree with that. I can see why not being able to ride the attractions would be very frustrating. However the point that I think people are trying to make is that there's a way to get things done and a way to just make things worse. I think Cormaster realizes that, so that's neither here nor there. The park is certainly going to read this thread, but like I said before, if you really feel as though you have some legitimate concerns, I'd call the 800 number I put in my last post.

Kings Island officially debuted County Line this weekend. I'm not the biggest country fan on earth (so NO Kentucky jokes in this thread, please! ) but I still really enjoyed the enjoyed the theatrical elements, overall performance, and incredible singing of the show. It's definitely a welcome change to the uh.... nothing... that it's had the past few years. Country fan or not, I certainly encourage you to check it out.

No one has made an official poll about how you guys felt about KI after opening day, I'd love to hear your opinions. My thoughts: -The park was cleaner than ever. -Many things that needed some TLC got paint and were fixed. -Cedar Fair ain't screwin' around when it comes to trash cans. -I ate at Wings and the food quality improved DRAMATICALLY over past years. -LOVED County Line, I'm not a big country fan, but had a lot of fun watching it. -Can't wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds!!

I can agree with that. Some of their policies are hard to get used to, but when it boils down, we got a cleaner park, brighter colors, a new coaster, and bunch of new shows... not to mention a pass offering that can get you into Cedar Point too. People can say what they want about little details, but for many guests, they've done much more good than bad. I'm 6'2 and I feel a little pain in my shoulders when I ride anything with OTSRs. Nothing too terrible, but I do agree that it's designed for something shorter than I am. Then again, if you were 5' tall, you'd get all of the head banging. As far as making this a little bigger, that's an easy assertion to make, however you and I are not experts and we don't know that having a car that's a little bigger for us would make it extremely unsafe for someone who's 5'2. I must admit that I'm one of the ones who run these forums and even I dread reading some users' posts because I just want to ring the necks. However you must admit that you didn't expect to get a very positive response when you went to a Kings Island fan site and griped about the park and its parent company. I hope the other stuff works out for you. I know a lot of people who have used the ability to fit onto KI rides as a motivation to loose weight. The gastric bypass stuff is a tough road too, but it has been proven to work very well. Keep us updated. If you truthfully honestly feel as though you have concerns that the park should hear about, call the park at 1-800-288-0808. I mean, they can't really change any safety regulations for you, but they could do a better job of explaining why they do what they do.

The reason why it was open today was because they needed more time to train the crew so that's definitely a possibility. When I'm telling you something, speculating, or dropping you hints, I try to make it relatively clear with my statements. All I have to say is that I wouldn't be encouraging everyone to ride it if there weren't something to be excited about. Barring outside circumstances, The Crypt will certainly be operational by June. It'll be ready soon than later.

There is a Gold Pass parking lot which is located across from the handicap parking. That one is for gold passholders only. The one you parked in which is "preferred" parking. It's closer to the front gate. That one is an upcharge.

It became a buffet in late 06, I want to say. Before that it sold Montgomery Inn food.

Opening day was packed last year too. The park opens about two weeks later than it has in past years so the better weather is a little more attractive. Oh, and I agree with Gordon.. Kids are NOT dumber than us... they're just shorter than us. You can love or hate the food prices at Kings Island, but they are listed right in front of you and what it adds up to is what you'll pay. That shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise to you. Plus if you want to place a valid concern, comments like that will get you nowhere in life. I think you were the unfortunate victim of a happening. Stuff like that happens sometimes. The person made a mistake. I on the other hand, who has darn near gotten into fist fights with KI officials about the food quality at KI, was very pleasantly surprised with the food quality at the buffet, which I always though had some of the worst food in the park. The $15 was money well spent on that, so I'd recommend giving that a shot next time. You can't tell me that you don't look back and realize that your comment was unnecessary. They try to make those rides as safe as possible for as many people as possible. Unfortunately, that results in some people being unable to fit in the ride. Fortunately Kings Island is going to offer a LOT to do besides rides this season. Just wait until everything unfolds. When you were in the Festhaus, did you catch County Line? It's a long drive to Kings Island for me and that show made it all worth it. I'm not a big country fan or anything, but the production value of the show was off the chain in my book.

As of the time of this writing, it's still up in the air with The Crypt. It wasn't scheduled to be open for the private event on April 19th, so that's not a shock. As I stated in another post, the ride is doing very well, but due to some modifications they didn't have sufficient time to train the crew and they'd rather have safe riders than an open Crypt, if you know what I mean. Keep posted on that. This is going to be something very exciting for this season. I can't wait to hear how you guys react to the... well, just ride it when it opens.

Just a little FYI, Kings Island has updated its online media kit. This media kit is now one of the best in the chain, if not the entire industry. It features videos, photos, story ideas, press releases, etc. Check it out: http://visitkingsisland.com/mediakit/index.html

[hesitates] Uhh... yeah. All of the scenery and movie props that are in there are 100% functional. The Crypt will be an exciting new experience, but it won't be exciting for the same reasons it was in 2002.
-
Many many people don't know what they're talking about. I responded to the guy's shot at us which was quoted above. Many people go to KI for the shows. You can love or hate the concept but when it comes down to it, it's VERY expensive to do these six shows and it would have been cheaper to install a moderate sized ride instead. They took the show route because it made proper business sense, not because they wanted a cheap way out.
-
Play the "Coaster Quiz" Game. After you're done, it tells you that they got the images from an old friend.
-
That will be surprise for all of us. Right now it's still up in the air, but barring outside circumstances, it's definitely scheduled to be open next weekend.
-
Take this as an official "de-confirming" of your thoughts, however I would still be excited for other reasons. New Decals! <G> Sorry Boddah, I had to. <G> Decals, my butt! Try a full fledged new sign! No really, ride it.

...maybe they forgot to file for the permit.

Spring is here! You know what that means, it's Kings Island time! Kings Island will officially kick off its 2008 season on Sunday, April 20th. With another season means an amazing new show lineup, new places to eat, history coming back to life, and more! Want to make opening the day the best it can be? Click here to read KICentral's offical opening day FAQ! Opening day may not be until Sunday, but that doesn't mean the KICentral.com can't bring you the latest Kings Island updates a little early! We were privileged enough to be able to take some photos within the park to tempt your appetite until Sunday! Of course, everyone is now aware of the Mystery Project which is unraveling at Swan Lake in Rivertown. When asked about the construction we were issued the following statement: "The activity going in in the park reflects our continuing commitment to provide our guests with world-class thrills, fun and quality family entertainment." said Don Helbig, Public Relations Area Manager for Kings Island, "The park has not shed any specific details but early indications are that this future attraction will be nothing but spectacular! Our guests can watch it being built right before their eyes every time they visit the park this summer." Click here to see photos of the changes around Kings Island including the mystery construction at Swan Lake! The Racer has been a staple at Kings Island since it opened with the inaugural season of the park in 1972. It was designed by the legendary roller coaster designer John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company to be Kings Island's racing coaster. Each side, labeled "Blue Racer" and "Red Racer" would compete head to head up the 88ft hill only to be plunged down an 80ft drop and through a hilly terrain of 3,415ft of track. In 1982, one side was turned backward and the trains were mixed to alternate between blue and red on each side. As history comes back to life, Kings Island has restored The Racer to its original 1972 racing grandeur. After over 25 years, the Red Racer and the Blue Racer will once again reignite the rivalry between the Red and the Blue in a forward-facing winner-take-all race to the rugged finish line. For more information about the history of The Racer as the history of Kings Island, visit KICentral.com's history section by clicking here. If you can smell anything sweeter in the air the lingering fresh scent of Spring then you're probably smelling the fresh rolls being baked at Cinnabon. Cinnabon will be added to Kings Island's food lineup for the 2008 season. Located on International Street next to LaRosas, Cinnabon will delight the both young and young at heart with its warm dough, filled with Makara Cinnamon and topped with freshly made cream cheese frosting. You will be able to enjoy this snack before the park opens so get there early and snag the sweet taste of Cinnabon rolls before the park drops the ropes!
