  1. You might want to wait until things are solidified for whatever they're doing for Independence Day before purchasing tickets. Last year they did it on July 3rd and some people went to the park on the 4th thinking that they'd do it that day. In the past, they had done several "Nights of Fire" which usually lasted up from Independence Day through the weekend, or the weekend through Independence Day, whichever was shorter. I have no details right now as to how Kings Island will be celebrating this year, if at all. Details to come, I'm sure....
  2. It's actually the same Clown Band that was around in the 80s. Apparently the park kept in contact with the performers and they all wanted to come back.
  3. I just found out that Grizzly Adams will be amongst the celebrities in attendance for the Knievel jump.
  4. That may be true. The park's scheduled to close at 10pm, but I imagine that people will still be in line for an hour after that at least.
  5. In what may be the most eventful day at Kings Island in years, May 24th, 2008 will certainly be the "must be there" day of the season at the park. Kaptain Robbie Knievel will be jumping 24 Coke Zero trucks in Kings Island's parking lot, which is a feat that will surpass his father's legendary jump 33 years ago. Knievel's father, Evil Knievel, jumped 14 Greyhound buses in Kings Island's parking lot 1975. The events don't stop there. In honor of Knievel's jump, Kings Island will host many pre-jump activities including the one-time return of the Clown Band, the return of many characters from the Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera, who will be in front of the Kings Island Theatre throughout the day to pose for photos and give out hugs to their biggest fans, an extended fireworks display at 10pm, an amazing flyover air show, and a performance by the Mason Jump Rope Team. Other acts slated to appear include the Goshorn Brothers, 3 Degrees, Kristen Key, Marsha Brady, Catch 22, Johnny Combs and Dallas Moore. This event is FREE with park admission and to season pass holders, however you can get the best seats in the house by purchasing VIP seats in the grandstand. Tickets can be purchased by going to VisitKingsIsland.com. Where: Kings Island, Cincinnati, OH What: Kaptain Robbie Knievel will attempt to jump 24 Coke Zero buses in Kings Island's parking lot. 6. 16 zillion sounds too few to me. Boddah, I thought it was the most toys wins! Not how I play.
  7. *MOD EDIT: Changed topic title to more appropriately reflect the news at hand. For your convenience: HANNA-BARBERA CHARACTERS, CLOWN BAND, AIR SHOW AND EXPANDED FIREWORKS HIGHLIGHT KNIEVEL FESTIVITIES Guests of all ages are in for a special treat when they visit Kings Island Saturday, May 24, as those fun-loving characters from the Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera return to the park for a special appearance as part of the pre-jump festivities for ‘Kaptain’ Robbie Knievel’s death-defying, world-record attempt to clear 24 Coke Zero trucks on his motorcycle. Those fun-loving characters Fred Flinstone, Barney Rubble, Dino, George Jetson, Astro and Yogi Bear, along with their pal Scooby Doo, will be available to meet visitors and pose for photographs during the day in front of the Kings Island Theater. In addition to the opportunity to see Hanna-Barbera characters wandering in the park again, a variety of live entertainment will be available for guests to enjoy, including the ONE TIME RETURN of the Kings Island CLOWN BAND! Other musical acts slated to appear include the Goshorn Brothers, 3 Degrees, Kristen Key, Marsha Brady, Catch 22, Johnny Combs and Dallas Moore. The Mason Jump Rope team will be on hand to showcase their talents, plus have your camera ready for a spectacular air show that will be performed prior to the jump at 7 p.m. An expanded fireworks extravaganza, which can be seen from anywhere in the park, will end the evening a 10 p.m. You don’t want to miss it! Marsha Brady? How about that for nostalgia.
  8. Yep, but you have to remember thing things such as Sling Shot and Skyflyer adjust throughout the day based on attendance so it does happen at KI.
  9. My apprehension was more that they could raiser the prices between 11am and 1pm and again from 4pm to 6pm... lunch and dinner hours. If they had a system for it, they could change the prices with the click of a mouse.
  10. I've never heard your reasoning for the season pass price points. That's definitely a new one to me! Season pass holders historically spend the least per person per visit (also referred to as "per cap") than any other type of visitor, so I'm not really sure that would be the sole reason, but it may be one factor among several. I know a lot of SP holders that will go only for a few hours, or will leave the park to eat if they are spending a full day. However there are plenty of SP holders who will eat all their meals in the park (which was my family until this year) and plenty of general admission folks who leave the park to eat. Overall a season pass holder is more apt to spend money in the park for food (depending on their length of stay) than they are for games or merch, as eating is a necessity while plush animals and souvenirs are not a requirement to survive (at least for most people ). Your general admission person is more apt to spend money on games or a souvenir during their one trip than a SP holder spending money on these on each of their visits. As always, there will be exceptions to this. I have a theory on why I think SP holders are more likely to leave the park to eat than a general admission person is. SP holders are used to going to the park several times throughout the year, whereas a once a year visitor will want to spend as much time in the park as they can since it is more novel to them. From my personal experience, one year when a group of us went to CP someone suggested going to Fridays for dinner (before they put one at Hotel Breakers). NNNOOOOOO!!!! That meant leaving the park! Against my wishes we did, but I would have rather not taken the time out to go to the car, drive, wait to be served, then drive back. On the other hand, on a majority of my CP trips we do technically leave the park to eat at the marina, which years ago served Montgomery Inn ribs and is now Famous Dave's. I like the atmosphere there with the boats and all the water, it's unlike what I'm used to in landlocked Cincy. Sure, there's the river here, but it's not the same. I still consider this park property since I didn't get in my car to get there, but whether it actually is or not I'm not sure. You're absolutely right, however I think that you're thinking along the lines that CF did when they first purchased the park, which is a mentality they've retracted. Although SP people spend less in the park, they do go, and they go often, and there are a lot of them. There's still a lot of money to be made from SP people. I'm willing to bet that you'll see SP people have more opportunities to spend money at the park in the future.
  11. Anyone else notice that the menus in the Festhaus have been replaced by LCD screens? They show rotating screens of advertisements for the food items as well as the prices, but it does make me worry because they could be used as a tool to raise prices easily... what I mean is, food could be more expensive on a busy day than a slow day when they know they'll do a certain volume.
  12. When I was in high school, a man who lost his wife and kids in this accident spoke and gave a demonstration about drinking and driving. It was really sad. There's actually a sign on I-71 just north of Louisville where the accident happened.
  13. It was nearly 33 years ago that Evel Knievel made his legendary jump over 14 Greyhound buses in the parking lot at Kings Island. Evel Knievel may not be with us anymore, but his son, Robbie Knievel, will take the reigns and surpassing his father’s jump by jumping 24 Coke Zero trucks! In what will certainly be one of the most talked about events of the year, Kaptain Robbie Knievel will do what is expected to be the last big jump of his career while attempting to outdo his father in Kings Island’s parking lot on May 24th, 2008 at 7:00pm. This event is FREE with park admission! Want the best seats in the house? Click here to find out how you can purchase special Grandstand Seats for the Knievel jump! Act now, tickets are limited and going fast!! Mark your calendars because Kings Island is now open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in May! The park will be open from 10am until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10am until 8pm on Sundays. Get there early and grab a roll from the new Cinnabon before being one of the first to ride the new again Red Racer and The Crypt! Click here to see Kings Island's 2008 operating schedule! Something else old has become new again at Kings Island. Rather than being reverted back to the way it was, the ride formerly known as Tomb Raider: The Ride has become an all new dark ride experience known as The Crypt! Guests enter the freshly opened chamber and follow a path surrounded by cobwebs, ancient artifacts, and an assortment of decaying human remains. Of course, the fun doesn’t stop there. Guests are then warned not to enter by the shrill and demonic howls of a large bat-like creature. Not long after that, the willing victims are locked into their seats where they encounter a ride experience that is completely unique to anything they’ve ever seen at Kings Island. What once was a gentle dark ride experience is now an all new intensive ride which is certain to make even the most experienced thrill seekers scream in terror! The Crypt features numerous and repetitive flips, quick drops, and many other extremely disorienting maneuvers. Riders should be advised that although the ride is the same physical ride as Tomb Raider: The Ride was, this offers a new program with a much more intense and thrilling program. Please take this into consideration when choosing to ride The Crypt! The mystery construction continues over Swan Lake. Recently more earth has been moved and more footers have been installed. Many have speculated about what exactly this project is going to be but no matter what it is, the park assures us that it will be spectacular! Click here to see photos of The Crypt, a Robbie Knievel display that is currently featured at Kings Island and Swan Lake construction! Time's ticking away! 16. If 10% of a group of 20 people die from one specific preventable thing, I consider that a bad ratio.
  17. Liver disease is caused by alcohol. If you read my original post: Additionally, there are countless performers who have died or seriously risked their careers as a result of drug and alcohol use: Jim Morrison - Heart attack after a decade of constant drug and alcohol use. Kurt Cobain - Suicide stemming from a heroin addiction. Marilyn Monroe - Suicide/Drug overdose Steve Clark (Def Lepard) - Alcohol related death. Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon) - Drug Overdose Keith Moon - Drug OD Bradley Nowell (Sublime) - Drug OD John Panozzo (Styx) - Alcohol. Gram Parsons (The Byrds) - Drug OD Robert Pilatus (Milli Vanilli) - Suicide after a decade of drug related issues. Bon Scott (AC/DC) - Alcohol Hillel Slovak (Red Hot Chili Peppers) - Drugs ...and the list goes on.
  18. Wow, I can't believe we kind of agree on something Deerhunter. I sometimes wonder why everyone has to be so harsh on drugs like marijuana, alcohol is much worse anyway. How so? Some people, not all, can enjoy alcohol in moderation and still function. This is not the case with marijuana, which immediately impairs your senses and can cause you to become a hazard on the road. Aside from driving, which we can all agree you shouldn't do whether you are drunk, high, or anything else, marijuana is not a contributing factor to domestic abuse, depression, or addiction the way alcohol is. There are many people that drink alcohol in a responsible manner which hurts no one around them, but the same goes for marijuana. Not all recreational drug users are irresposible half-wits. It could also be argued that marijuana and other recreational drugs can work productively unlike alcohol, just look at Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Zombies, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, etc. Many of the people or bands you have mentioned have died young as a result of alcohol and drugs.
  19. That's the thing... Holiday World doesn't really offer free drinks. The price of the drinks is built into the admission ticket. If it weren't for the free drinks, the gate there would be EXTRAORDINARILY overpriced.

  21. The meal deals kinda suck...I was thinking something along the lines like..you pay an extra amount for your season pass..and you swipe your card...and it gets you so many free meals per visit...so many drinks...etc. It seems by some of the comments that many on here have never been to Disney. I must admit, I've never done the meal deal. I remember a survey that they did through the Paramount Panel asked if we'd be willing to pay more for a season pass if it included a meal per visit. Nothing ever came of it and I highly doubt that Cedar Fair would be interested in something like that. I don't know if they still do this, but I know at Kentucky Kingdom you'd get a 10% discount on food with a SIX season pass. I always thought that would be a really good idea for Kings Island so people would be more enticed to both eat in the park and purchase a season pass.
  22. They do... they have the Gold Pass Meal Deals.
  23. The Park at the Park for FREE promotion ends May 25th.
