  1. Marcus Leshock is part of the media- the same media that rarely produces accurate ride information. We also know how parks love to pump up the volume in anticipation when it comes to rides. That being said, until the permits are submitted for KK complete removal like the removal permits were submitted for Green Lantern, the entire ride removal is in question. Note the "modern advancements" in the provided statements.
  2. Before social media, any ride announcement may have had a press conference with local media & ACE. Most of the masses found out when the new park brochures were available at AAA. Just like TTD, KK is retired as we know it and will evolve into something that will add to the ride experience- hopefully with better results than TT2 experienced this year. That does leave the question and starts to close the loop on another- who is modifying KK? and.... given the KK project is a go does that ease the minds of those who believed TT2 would never ride again? I cannot imagine the decision & investment would be made for KK if there are still uncertainties on TT2.
  3. ^ Fair enough. I was thinking more popularity of the legacy & impact on the amusement industry not necessarily just the popularity at the park.
  4. Guest behavior & accountability anywhere is at an all-time low. Too many have the "you can't tell me what to do" attitude. The other issue is when a guest is told "no" they have a literal temper tantrum. I cannot hold an employee/ non-security staff member responsible for the reaction a guest has when telling said guest that a drink needs to be finished before riding. The employee did their job. Guests that cannot behave properly, follow safety rules etc. should be removed & possibly banned from the park. All parks/ places in customer service industry need to start a zero-tolerance policy. The majority of the guests witnessing the outbursts will applaud and respect the decision.
  5. Let's face it, this is issue is not just about hot chocolate. The meal/ drink plans across all the CF parks have zero consistency. Guests paid for something they are not getting in return and the reasoning given muddies the water even more. This has been an issue for a number of years and should have been addressed by now. Due to inadequate training by the park, I do feel for the employee that has to tell a guest "no" and then gets the brunt of the frustration.
  6. Working on any ride under normal operations is one thing, knowing the design of the panels and what it can/ can't do when it is not under normal operations as well as not being present when the accident happened is another. What needs to be considered was the state of the ride prior to the accident- which will come out as the investigation continues.
  7. ^ I have unfortunately been part of many accident investigations and have learned that during the initial stages of the investigation. no root cause can be eliminated. What needs to be done is try & repeat the actions prior to the accident. I believe both the park along with B&M will try to replicate it and conduct numerous interviews with all staff.
  8. You can guarantee that statement?
  9. Valravn had a collision in 2019. Makes me wonder if it is a B&M block issue, wet track issue or some type of operator issue. Glad to hear the accident was not serious enough to cause injuries.
  10. It would be interesting to see other seasonal park's attendance data % compared to each other. Due to amount of operating days varying from park to park, the % increases/ decreases by year would be more "telling". CP Dollywood Hershey BGW

  12. ^ Lake Erie typically has the most waterspouts out of all the great lakes due to how warm the water gets. Just last year: Lake Erie breaks world waterspout record: Over 180 sightings reported (usatoday.com) It's not "unusual" to have a waterspout this time of year but they usually happen late summer/ early fall.
  13. Headline from Sandusky Register: Cedar Point design firm closing https://sanduskyregister.com/news/532517/cedar-point-design-firm-closing/#:~:text=Cedar Point design firm closing It's not until the last sentence that the reason why the design firm is closing is mentioned.
  14. I think it's easy to say that when it comes to the TT2 in 2024- no news is not good news. How much longer will Top Thrill 2 be closed at Cedar Point? | wkyc.com If parts are being made, why not make enough for one train & test that one train non-stop? Unless the wait is for train wheels to be cured.
  15. ^ I have zero inside knowledge of KI personnel but have heard rumblings through here & other grapevines about the current KI PR staff having questionable decision-making skills. I also am a firm believer that you do not need to make a bad employee look bad- they do it on their own. If the story is true, I question upper/ executive management's reluctance in dismissing an employee that is obviously not cut out for the job.
  16. Very disturbing story. So disturbing that the validity should be questioned. It's too detailed. What gave me the "is this a real story?" thought is when the poster mentioned living close to the park. Every co-worker can't live that close & use those same words where the identity would be easily known. My biggest question is- why post this story on a fan site? Surely the mainstream media would/ could ask the right questions to the right PR people. Also- did the park release anything that the victim did walk away?? I didn't see anything like that. I did see the statement which seemed to echo among most media outlets:
  17. I was an EHS coordinator for over a decade in a manufacturing facility. The one thing I learned was limitless $$ can be thrown at anything to make it "safe" but that does not make it foolproof from being used unsafely. Also- banks are likely the most secure places most of us go to regularly- they still get robbed. In a nutshell- if someone is determined to not follow the rules, they will push the envelope to make it happen.
  18. I hope the injured guest makes it. I also hope those who had to witness/ be part of the accident are not crazy traumatized. That being said, so many people just want to buck the rules because "they can't tell me what to do" or "I'm better than that". It has become a plague on society. People just cannot police themselves anymore. I'm to the point that every ride should require all loose items be put in lockers. Larger/ more popular rides should have metal detectors near the ride platform. If you are found with loose items, you need to get out of line, put your items away & wait again from the end. Yes, it's drastic but nothing else is working with guests. Now....the cost. Parks need to have "moveable lockers" for a nominal fee ($5-$10?) and using a personal code can access any locker from any ride. Make the lockers large enough for purses, stuffed animals, medical bags, etc. Groups/ families can all share a locker. I know there are tons of logistics involved & that I'm completely dumbing it down but until something changes, these accidents (not only a guest jumping a fence) but accidents of phones flying through the air, rides being stopped because a guest has a phone out, and guests losing items like keys & wallets etc. are only going to continue. The cost for the park will be substantial, but the cost of bad media (let's face it, more than 50% of those that saw the headline only read "Man Struck By Rollercoaster at Kings Island and believe KI is unsafe), the cost of settling out of court is not cheap either. Also- if the injured guest survives, wait till the media & public fallout when he is charged with trespassing. The family of the guest will likely sue KI and the best defense is- he trespassed.
  19. ^ if the failure was indeed vibration fatigue (Silver2005 brought up a great point of coasters hitting the 100mph mark and the numerous issues- and my belief vibration fatigue was likely a major culprit in each example), any type of NDT testing would not be necessary. The pics of the test tape rub marks exclude part failure but rather part design is the culprit. The original bogies could not be adjusted to prevent vibration. It would be interesting to know if the bogies were aluminum like the chassis or steel. Thinking deeper- the revised bogies are "beefier" than the original and the revised parts are still intact makes me believe more parts for the bogies are necessary and Zamperla was testing last week w/o more parts in hopes to get TT2 up and running without compromising safety.
  20. ^ The "first generation" wheel bogies were quickly removed in anticipation for the revised parts currently on the trains. Not sure why that process would change now if the revision(s) were not operating as intended and a 3rd revision is on the horizon. Although I'm totally speculating.
  21. ^ I'm thinking the "announcement" was due to CM. If the new parts come back off the trains, that's going to be a red flag for opening anytime soon. It's not exactly encouraging it has not tested more (which I'm assuming due to lack of video). The social media monsters are losing their minds over the downtime. The Zamperla blame game is rampant. Suddenly everyone forgot about new ride issues with: Intamin, Arrow Dynamics, RCCA, Huss, S&S.....
