The Maiden Voyage

http://www.rcdb.com/qs.htm?quicksearch=Steel+Dragon+2000 I find it funny that that name on the car is in English, but the information sign is in Japanese. -
CEDAR POINT 07'
Browntggrr replied to The New England Snapper's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I doubt the item under the blue tarp has anything to do with the 2007 project- but like everyone else, I am just speculating. Here is another pic of some of the new footers that have been added to the pond that the Swans used to be in. Is the construction for a new coaster? Only a few people know (myself NOT being one of them). It was late in the season in 2002 when track showed up for TTD, and the ride was not announced until late winter (February?) of 2003. But construction for TTD actually started in 2001 with the removal of the dodgems. Chances are that it is a coaster just because of the time frame that construction has started, but it will be awhile before the ride officially announced. http://www.pointbuzz.com/news.htm?id=889 I knew that I forgot something... -
Yes because if you show this to your English teacher, you will be in summer school. I love this time of year, Dippin' Dots and Lemon Chill guys always have the inside scoop.

Toledo Blade article I wonder if the new owners will get the hint that some of the park's current pricing is too high. When the best park for 8 years slashes prices and not quality, that has to show the rest of the industry something.

Hey pot, the kettle's calling. Nobody can even speculate what is going to happen with FoF; at least until the sale is completed. Chances are, PKD either already planned to not operate their FoF this year for a re-theme,or, they started to do the work, and decided to wait until the new owner makes a decision. I cannot see taking either ride out, it doesn't make sense. When Paramount first bought PKI, Top Gun was already in the works as a different name & theme. Paramount made the decision to theme it to a movie after the sale. I can see the same scenario at PKD.

I agree that the park cannot discount tickets due to ride closings, but comparing a seasonal park to a year-round park like Disney is not the same thing. PKI has had since November to get ready for opening day; whereas Disney is always open- so they have no choice but to take the ride down during normal operations. There are also more attractions at Disney than at PKI. If a ride is down, there are a numerous amount more to go to. And as far as being too cold to get some things done around the park; if they can build muti-million dollar rides in the winter, they can fix then in the winter as well. Even Cedar Point repainted Magnum last off season, and CP is located right on the shores of Lake Erie where the winter temeratures of the lake affect the temp in the park by 10 to 15 degrees if the wind is blowing from the North.

They may have been made aware when they purchased their tickets at the park, but if they bought them online, or traveled a couple hundered miles there is no way to tell before they left their homes. The common guest probably believed that since the park has has all off season to get the bugs worked out, that all the rides would be operating. Remember, 95% of the people that go to the park (or any park for that matter) do not watch these sites the way we do. It is impossible for the average guest to understand the ins and outs of the park operations that we discuss. I would even bet that 80% of the people that are going to be going to PKI this summer don't even know that the park is being sold. We all know that the first few weeks the park is open, things are a little out of place, and most of us have the opportunity to go back later in the year. But for a family, they may have planned to go this past weekend to avoid the crowds, or because they have no other opportunity during the year to go. Any ride at any park can go down at any time. That is the risk everyone takes, it is just unfortunate that PKI had multiple thrill rides down at the same time which is very un-PKI like.

Where you save in labor for that additional hour, you lose in customer service. This type of thinking is short term, not long term, and even though Paramount is selling the parks, the prospective buyer(s) will see this. And quite honsetly, if Paramount is concerned about that one extra hour of labor costs that may, or may not be worth it; we are all better off that the park is being sold. What guest experiance is going to be cut next?

They may not have been buying anything in the morning, but in the case of my family, we would browse the shops early, and buy the items on the way out at night. We didn't want to buy the item, bring it back to the car, and then go back into the park right when we first entered the park. Being in business, the one thing I have learned is that the less the front door is open, the less money I am going to make.

My wife and I were able to experience Kumba at BGA alone during our honeymoon back 2000. It was an intresting experinence.

I could understand if one or two of the newer rides (i.e. Delirium, TR:TR) were down, but for rides like The Racers & FaceOff that have been around for a number of years; not being ready for the season opener there really is no excuse except for bad planning.

Considering that the coaster was modified to include the deep gully on multiple passes in 1968 to become the Thunderbolt, I don't consider that new.
-
I would think that the Thunderbolt at Kennywood would have the claim as being one of the first terrain coasters.

Whats your favorite park?
Browntggrr replied to Reon's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
1. Cedar Point 2. Busch Gardens Europe (Formally known as BGW) 3. Hershey 4. IoA 5. Disney- MGM 6. PKI I have not been to DollyWood or Holiday World yet. I hope to go to both this summer on another huge trip (Georgia Aquarium, DollyWood, Holiday World, PKI). -
Yes, that makes sense. #1 Some of the comments are true, even though most don't want to believe it. #2 Why are people not entitled to their own opinion? The topic is KI vs. PKI. Just the nature of the title is going to bring out some negativity either way.
-
I am not a particular fan of IJ, but thinking that any ride like IJ is going to raise attendance by a significant amount in a one year time span is asking a little much. Now considering that PKI spent millions more on a ride like SoB, and that SoB's unfortunate reputation by a majority of riders is that it is a horrible coaster, I could agree 6 years later that particular investment is a failure.

It's not that I don't like Screamscape, but in thier "Rumor Mill" they post all the rumors that people send in. I was only stating that CoasterBuzz has been the "go to" site for BeastBuzz. If Sceamscape would have posted the infomation on BeastBuzz before CoasterBuzz I would have my doubts. Yet it is funny on how people with deep connections with one site seem to dislike other people from other sites more often than not. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!?

I hope that you are only referring to the cost of themeing when it comes down to MF or MS (which there is virtually NONE). Both of those rides have high maintenance costs; for MS- CP bugets close to $1 million/ year for the yearly rehab and the repairs to the end of the first drop hill (which is why there are brakes going down the hill) and normal wood replacement. And with MF- CP replaces the elevator lift cable at least once a year if not twice, and I am not sure about this one- but I bet that CP also has to replace the mechanisims that connect the lift cable to the train itself on a regular basis just due to normal wear & tear. It is too bad that some people have to vandalize certain parts of the park just so they can "leave their mark". If they wanted to do that, I would rather they go and pee on a tree. But there are so many other things that the park could do to keep up with the themeing that could have never been touched by vandals which would give the park a much better image.
-
Sounds like you have a grudge against someone. If it was a site like Screamscape, I would tend to agree with you. But even though Jeff may come off as being brash or arrogant, but he does not post information without the facts behind it.

I won't laugh at you for the question, but "shoulder starps" gave me a good chuckle.

I believe that Paramount has not kept up with landscaping, themeing, cleanliness etc. at PKI like it was before they bought the parks, but, after going to PKD twice and comparing the two parks; PKI is leaps and bounds over PKD. And for those who are comparing BGW to PKI (even though this is not the place), I have been to BGW numerous times with my family and I have never noticed that BGW has less rides than PKI. We go open to close and have never been bored. IMO BGW may have less rides, but the rides they have are more quality rides compared to most parks.
-
Paramount may operate PKI well, but when it comes to PKD- the operations are plain embarressing. It is quite easy to see that Paramount treats PKI like the signature park. I have been to PKD twice. Once in 1999, and again last summer. Both times the park was a major disappointment. Rides were down, limited concessions available, lack of security, not clean, etc. Quite honsetly, back in '99 my wife and I planned to go to PKD for two days with our PKI season pass, but about 3:00pm on day one, I found directions to get to Busch Gardens for day 2. Going to BGW saved the trip.

Actually, the original tunnels for for Beast was one tunnel, and the other "tunnel" had just a roof on it, just like the mid-coarse run. Neither tunnel on the helix uses concrete. I have a nice copy of an on board ride just before Beast opened in 1979 with actual workers still working on the ride.
