For any public venue, they are grandfathered not being ADA complient, unless there is major renovations done. If Fridays were to occupy IR, they would certainly put up some serious money to renovate it. And even at that, in the whole grands scheme of things, installing a elevator would not cost as much as you would think.
-
Well there are actually 2 Fridays at CP. One is in Hotel Breakers which is not open year round; but it does have the one day sales record of any Fridays (I believe it was on a Saturday during 4th of July weekend). The other is at Castaway Bay which is open year round. Not having a traditional sit down restaraunt is one of my biggest complaints about what Paramount has done to KI. Having a Fridays come into the park would be a great move, but I am not sold on the idea that it should go where IR was. It seems kind of small for a full Fridays to occupy. But anything is better than nothing at this point.

rollercoaster you would like to see gone
Browntggrr replied to screamingnight's topic in Kings Island
Why does a coaster have to be removed for another to be built? There is plenty of undeveloped land to build & expand for rides and new areas. -
The story was already updated w/o the timeline comment. Chances are that the man identified made the statement that he has been riding coasters for 12+ years and never felt anything like SoB, and the reporter took it as he has been riding SoB for that time.
-
But as everyone knows, SoB's history is not exactly clean. There have been some incidents where people have been banged/ brused because the ride is rough. Now the park has spent a good amount of money and time to make improvments on how rough the coaster is and make it more enjoyable for everyone. Now if there were no problems, why spend the money & time to improve it for the last 6 years? I am not an attorney, but this is the first question I would raise. We all know that SoB is the roughest coaster in the park, but it also has the same 5 star thrill rating as other rides like The Beast and FoF, so the casual guest is going to believe that the ride would be no different and we all know that there is a significant difference. There will be lawsuits, and the best way to handle them is to be settled out-of-court with the stipulation that the incident and the settlement will remain undisclosed.
-
Because a person who has never rode will give a more honest opinion rather than a biased one from others that have been on it numerous times. We all know how rough SoB is, and some of us even know how to *ride* it. A interview from a person that has never been on it speaks volumes on how bad this ride tends to be. Unfortunately, this could be the beginning of the end for SoB. With all the money and time spent on this one ride, and now a very serious accident that luckily only produced one serious injury (even though the person with the broken chest bone does not consider themself to be lucky- I hope there are no lingering effects from this injury), when does CF say enough is enough?

I'll wait till next year.

They could be changing the price of admission. And the only way to be fair to those who have already bought tickets is to manufacture new tickets that are significantly different than the current tix under Paramount, and reimburse those who have already purchased tickets with eithermore Winterfest tickets, or credit towards 2007 park tickets. ... or Winterfest is cancelled.

KI Fifth Most Popular Cinci Attraction?
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
I took the article as the Aquarium as being part of Newport on the Levee not as a seperate entity. The Aquarium is the main draw to that area. Why would you ask if I have been there? -
KI Fifth Most Popular Cinci Attraction?
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
The aquarium is also year round. Whereas KI and the Reds are seasonal. It's just that the Reds have 81 home games, and if you attract 30,000 fans/ game that equals 2.43 million fans, and being that the Great American Ballpark is new, they probably attract even more than that. This is really not shocking news. -
Signed, Sealed, and Delivered!

CF will not take out IJ. They can just put a building aroung it and have you believe that you are on a trip to Alaska. I highly doubt that any major changes will take place this year, but it is possible you could see a drop in some of the food prices which would be a relative easy task. -

will they rename the rides of the paramount parks?
Browntggrr replied to peteytherocker's topic in Rumors
I am in no way certain that CF is going to change any of the names of the rides. But a good way to create new intrest is to make a ride "seem" new to the general public by changing a name. It is not uncommon for new ownership to make small changes, like changing a name of a product to spark new intrest or even for an existing company to come out and say "New and improved!" even though chances are it is the same old thing. All of us here are interested of the changes that CF is going to make. And we are all going to go to the park just to see anything that CF has changed and being KI enthusiasts that we are we will be actually "looking" for changes. When the media blitz starts next year about CF's opening of Kings Island, they are going to mention changes and ride names- people may not realize that there is not a new ride and the name was not changed and just come to the park to see the changes for themselves. Instead of being "Oh it's just Top Gun" they may think, "Let's check out Thunder Road". Now if this is going to increase stock value, I have no idea. -
According to this site, KC was taken out due to cost of maintenance. I also believe that the Cincy Enquirer had a story about the removal of KC and it was due to lack of parts from Togo. The remaining parts at PKI were sent to PKD. Now parts can be custom made at a tool shop, but that is costly and time consuming since most shops are not going to keep parts on the shelf the way the manufacturor would. Paramount just made the decision to shut down the PKI coaster and keep the others open probably due to popularity at PKI vs. the other parks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_Island

will they rename the rides of the paramount parks?
Browntggrr replied to peteytherocker's topic in Rumors
Distinguishing that Paramount no longer owns the park. Even though the name will probably be changed to just "Kings Island" the general public will still not be aware that CF owns the park. Changing the name of a ride will have a larger impact. -
will they rename the rides of the paramount parks?
Browntggrr replied to peteytherocker's topic in Rumors
There are a couple of scenarios: - Does Paramount even want CF to have rides with there movie themes? - If CF wants to keep the name of a ride to a movie theme, will Paramount charge them? - Will CF want to keep the rides' name the same even under new ownership, or just distinguish themselves as the new park owner? Saying that if CF changes the names is only stroking their ego is just a foolish statement. CF may have aquired $2 billion in debt, but that did not deplete all of their funds. They have more than enough money & assests that they could pretty much do anything to the parks that they want to next year. It is all in their business plans that were decided & approved before the announment of the sale. Deciding the names of rides is all in part of crossing the "i"'s & dotting the "t"'s. -
Going from Kings Island to Paramount's Kings Island was worse.

Big weapons or small weapons, if someone wants to get it in, they will. When I had my first experiance with detectors (I believe at PKD back in '99) my initial reaction was "Why do they need metal detectors, what has happened here?" Instead of a feeling of security, I was a bit nervous. At PKI since I go there often I do not feel that way because I know that there have not been any significant issues with weapons, but when I was at PKD I did look over my shoulder more than usual.
-
The thing with metal detectors is that they cannot prevent a gun or other like weapon from getting in the park. If a person was sick enoungh to bring in a weapon to cause harm to guests in the park, there are numerous ways to get around the detectors. And if a person is that sick, they may just try and bring something in just to prove they could because the detectors are there.

Just like jaywalking, speeding, cheating on your taxes, drinking and driving, open container law, underage drinking -you get the point. KI police and ride operators have much more important things on their mind then trying to stop smoking in undesignated areas. Imagine this: "Ride accident at Kings Island leaves 10 injured"- Ride operator left station to reprimand smoker in line. Even though that scenario may be a stretch; there are E- Stop buttons for a reason that the operators need to engage in case of some type of electrical failure.
