A Zagat survey, with Parenting Magazine, put PKI at #4 for child appeal behind the like of: Magic House in St. Louis (??), Disneyland, and Magic Kingdom. Ironically, Cedar Point was rated the best amusement park, and the #6 Top Rated Attractions Overall. Zagat Survey It is great that PKI is in some elite company, but they may be gaining a reputation by some on the west coast as just a kids' park, and not a park for the whole family. I hope this is not the case, there are some very good thrill attractions that PKI has that are not getting any noteriety.

After 25 years, The Beast is still near the tops on a majority of the "Best of" lists. SoB does not even come close to the reputation that The Beast has.

This is a difficult topic, only because there are many that never had the pleasure of KI before Paramount took over. IMO KI beats out the current PKI. And mainly for the little things. International Restaurant, International Street, quality of rides (Beast, Racer, Bat-Vortex, KCKK, HB, Enchanted Voyage- Phantom Theatre, Flight Commander, KC, WaterWorks etc.), the landscaping was very well kept, and it was CLEAN! I'm not saying that PKI is dirty, but KI was the "white glove test" type of clean. My first visit to KI was in '79, and up until the mid 90's KI was the park of choice for my family. But something changed when Paramount bought it, the "family" atmosphere was not where it used to be at.

*smacks head in disbelief* I guess that I am showing my age- it is too bad that some did not have the opportunity to visit PKI before Paramount took over. It was a much better park when it was KI. Taking out Coney Mall to replace it with a "Hollywood theme" would be a bad mistake. IMO Paramount has not paid attention enough to Coney, and too much on theming other parts of the park.

Days Of Thunder Triumphantly Returns!

That is great news! Thanks Dan. -
Then who would do it? With all the land that PKI has that is yet undeveloped, and the fact that they want to go with a Hollywood theme, there are easier options than removing any ride, with a good theme. PKI will eventually have to develop land around the park, and the erosion idea is a great thought. Chances are, the creek was modified when TG was put in, and again when SoB was put in. If there is another large coaster planned for PKI, they would have to submit proper paperwork concerning the creek to the EPA, that the modifications did not have long term effects to the creek, if they are putting the coaster (or another ride) in that general area.

It's not the rails that causes the roughness, but rather the wheel assembly.

Thanks Chef! I'm not sure how I messed that one up.

*nudges Ryan's shoulder* I'm a dude!

It would be a good idea to put GEAUGA lake in the spell check! And for those who seem to believe that CP bought GL, Cedar Fair owns both parks. It is the same situation of PKI and PKD. CP is only very busy on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. They have also won the Golden Ticket awards for best capacity. It is intresting that the capacity has been noted as the best by Amusement Today, but seems to be a negative issue here.

I hope that you are not talking about me. Overall, MF is the best coaster on the planet, and the #1 or #2 rankings in all the polls prove that. Whereas TTD may not be the best coaster, but it is one of the best rides I have ever been on (My #1 ride would be Spider-Man @ WoA). The ride that still makes PKI come out of CP's shadow is still The Beast. CP just does not have the type of ride that people still talk about 25 years later. MF may be there, but, with the new technology appearing every year, that will be a difficult task.
-
This is a issue that I would hope PKI would deal with swiftly. On another note, after what happened at SFNE a few weeks ago you think ride ops would want to pay very close attention to the riders.
-
Well, CP offers more than PKI could ever offer: 4 resort/ hotels vs. none 66 total rides vs. 43 16 coasters vs. 9 27 kids rides vs. 19 4 waiter style restaurants vs. none 6 live shows vs. 4 CP- voted best overall park 6 strait years PKI- voted best kids area 4 strait years (This poll is like best actor category vs. best supporting actor) Just some numbers.

Another morbid poll... Can't we just enjoy the summer and not add even more fear if a ride is safer than another. If you pay attention to the warning signs, and make sure that you are properly fastened/ buckled in, you have a better chance of being hit by lightning than having a life- threatening incident on ANY ride. The glass is half full, not half empty...

PKI should do the Hollywood theme/ family park. I don't think comparing PKI to CP is really fair to either park. A little info: USA Today Jackson, MI paper

All kinds of info here:BeastBuzz

Is your flux capacitor operating? Get back to 2004.

I'll take the longer drop any day. It is not an insult to PKI's DZ, but PKD's is newer, so any modifications for improving the ride was put into PKD's.

After reading what DragonLord said, will the park close the gates if there are too many people in the park? And how many people would that be?
-
Great info!

There were witnesses that said they saw it roll back after the loop, and there were pics of it, and SoB was down that day. Now there have been some people that say the pics were altered to show the rollback, my only question is why would someone alter a pic just to show a rollback? Rollbacks happen all the time, it is not a news-worthy item and a person will not gain notoriety just because they have a pic of it. My belief- yes it rolled back. Cold weather, windy, early in the season, are all conditions that could cause a rollback.

So you have been on one of the two dive machines either in England or Taiwan? How was it?
-
Unless the lake is a contained resevour, they would not be allowed to just pump it into a normal lake. The DEP monitors those types of things quite closely. The chlorine would contaminate the ground water after a long period of time. My guess is that PKI has a seperate area for all the water used in the park (Congo Falls, WWC), of course excluding BB, and filter it every night.

Well there will be buildings for the locker rooms, gift shop, and for the eating/ drinking establishments.
