*nudges Ryan's shoulder* I'm a dude!

It would be a good idea to put GEAUGA lake in the spell check! And for those who seem to believe that CP bought GL, Cedar Fair owns both parks. It is the same situation of PKI and PKD. CP is only very busy on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. They have also won the Golden Ticket awards for best capacity. It is intresting that the capacity has been noted as the best by Amusement Today, but seems to be a negative issue here.

I hope that you are not talking about me. Overall, MF is the best coaster on the planet, and the #1 or #2 rankings in all the polls prove that. Whereas TTD may not be the best coaster, but it is one of the best rides I have ever been on (My #1 ride would be Spider-Man @ WoA). The ride that still makes PKI come out of CP's shadow is still The Beast. CP just does not have the type of ride that people still talk about 25 years later. MF may be there, but, with the new technology appearing every year, that will be a difficult task.

This is a issue that I would hope PKI would deal with swiftly. On another note, after what happened at SFNE a few weeks ago you think ride ops would want to pay very close attention to the riders.
-
Well, CP offers more than PKI could ever offer: 4 resort/ hotels vs. none 66 total rides vs. 43 16 coasters vs. 9 27 kids rides vs. 19 4 waiter style restaurants vs. none 6 live shows vs. 4 CP- voted best overall park 6 strait years PKI- voted best kids area 4 strait years (This poll is like best actor category vs. best supporting actor) Just some numbers.

Another morbid poll... Can't we just enjoy the summer and not add even more fear if a ride is safer than another. If you pay attention to the warning signs, and make sure that you are properly fastened/ buckled in, you have a better chance of being hit by lightning than having a life- threatening incident on ANY ride. The glass is half full, not half empty...

PKI should do the Hollywood theme/ family park. I don't think comparing PKI to CP is really fair to either park. A little info: USA Today Jackson, MI paper

All kinds of info here:BeastBuzz

Is your flux capacitor operating? Get back to 2004.

I'll take the longer drop any day. It is not an insult to PKI's DZ, but PKD's is newer, so any modifications for improving the ride was put into PKD's.

After reading what DragonLord said, will the park close the gates if there are too many people in the park? And how many people would that be?
-
Great info!

There were witnesses that said they saw it roll back after the loop, and there were pics of it, and SoB was down that day. Now there have been some people that say the pics were altered to show the rollback, my only question is why would someone alter a pic just to show a rollback? Rollbacks happen all the time, it is not a news-worthy item and a person will not gain notoriety just because they have a pic of it. My belief- yes it rolled back. Cold weather, windy, early in the season, are all conditions that could cause a rollback.

So you have been on one of the two dive machines either in England or Taiwan? How was it?

Unless the lake is a contained resevour, they would not be allowed to just pump it into a normal lake. The DEP monitors those types of things quite closely. The chlorine would contaminate the ground water after a long period of time. My guess is that PKI has a seperate area for all the water used in the park (Congo Falls, WWC), of course excluding BB, and filter it every night.

Well there will be buildings for the locker rooms, gift shop, and for the eating/ drinking establishments.
-
What type of Hollywood restaurant are you referring to?
-
My wife and I rode it back in 2000, and it was really nice, but the cost made it a one time affair.

Pass me the Aleve. I can hear that LA- LAA- LLA-LLA-LLA song right now. Now a 2004 version of Smurfette might be neat...
-
Since PKI wants to go strictly Hollywood, what are the chances of a Planet Hollywood being built either in the park, or near the parking lot (something like Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney)?
-
That is a huge statement. Perhaps in 10-15 years, but not a few. Unless PKI puts in some big bucks- like about $100 million- to be considered in the class of Disney of Universal.

Minor PKI Workers be relocated from Rides
Browntggrr replied to Captain Obvious's topic in Kings Island
I don't think they are saying that adults are always more mature than minors, but that if you take a minor out of the equation if something were to happen there would be more blame put on the park, and not the maturity of a minor. McDonald's is not allowed to have minors do some of the work that a 18 year old is allowed to do (use the tomato slicer- but that was when I was working there 13 years ago), and in restaurants, a minor is not allowed to serve alcoholic beverages, and minors are not allowed to work certian hours. There has to be a point where they are allowed to do certian things, and that point is at the age of 18. I agree with the fact that you can die for your country, vote, and buy lotto tickets, but cannot be served alcoholic beverages- is just plain wrong. Don't take offense to it. They are not singling out PKI, just the amusement park industry as a whole. -
I am in favor of keeping it. I just question the cost of trying to fix it so it becomes a favorite for all coaster lovers.
-
Yes it will take some big bucks to have taken out, yet, it is the better of two evils. PKI has already spent some big bucks trying to fix the problems, if they spend more, and still have no results, it will still have to be taken out, and they are still at square one. The only option I can see is if, like you suggested, have it not operate for a year, and hopefully it will be a permanent fix. But there is that chance that all of the resources have dried up and there is nothing left that can be done. There are people that love the ride, but, it is the majority that does not like it at all. Check out Coasterbuzz and use the search feature. A majority of the people all say that they rode it once, and they will never ride it again. SoB is a two train operation in one of the most popular areas of the park, and still The Beast has a longer wait. You would think given the uniqueness of SoB, and it only being 4 years old, that it would be one of, and perhaps the most popular ride in the park, but it is just not that way. Also, it cost about $20 million, the most expensive ride in the park, but it is not the most popular? There is defiantly something wrong there.
-
It is taking too much $$ to keep the ride operating at the poor level it is at. A majority of the ride has been re-tracked and it has not made that big of a difference, it is still too rough. Wood coasters will always be rough, but they are still fun, SoB is only fun when it is going through the loop- the smoothest part of the ride. There have been many comparisons of SoB to The Beast, and while The Beast is not for the tame of heart, it is no where near as rough as SoB, and The Beast is 20 years older. Also, The Beast is annually near the top of the list for best coasters, SoB will never be even close to that type of reputation. PKI has done there best to make SoB a more enjoyable experience (re-tracking, train modifications), but there has to be a point where SoB is too painful for a majority of the guests and costs too much $$ to try making it a better ride. PKI is considered a family park, there are many rides that are not for all members at PKI, and SoB is the last in that list. BGW had many of the same issues with Drachen Fire (steel coaster that was also too rough), and they ended up taking it out. I would rather see PKI put their money into a new ride, just like what KI did with The Bat.
