When did you join KICentral?
SOB_TOM replied to Captain Nemo's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
Ah the old PKIU (and yes, official title so I CAN use it!) Many a good "debate" over here on these boards after the merger. Ah, the good old days of causing trouble -
...You use KI music to study and drive back from home to school and you wish you had more.

I work at a haunted attraction (Dent Schoolhouse) and seeing a house go down due to bad circumstances (I.E. construction delays) and the economy is saddening. And according to my listeners (because I did bring this up on air) they are saddened to see this as well. Had several calls from people who went there and are now unhappy.

What was the first roller coaster youve ridden?
SOB_TOM replied to Phantom Theater's topic in KI Polls
My first was The Beastie, but I mark my cherry being popped when I rose Vortex for the first time. My dad made me sit up in the front seat, and I was freaking out when the walkway dropped off. Of course, I was like 6 at the time (its good to be tall when your young) -

I know, thats where I had to look it up under. I forgot when I joined. -
Is it a book, publication, or movie? I have something on Coney, a book that remembers the old Coney, but I dont know offhand if its the same thing you are looking for.

Maintenance on ALL theming aspects in park to make them work, which includes bottom of Flight Deck, FoF, Backlot and Crypt would be my main concern. Theres no reason the theming looks this bad a few years after opening.

Which ride will you go to first when Kings Island re-opens?

I want to see what they did to The Crypt. Without the Lara Croft copyright, I wonder what preshow and the ride will look like, so thats where Im heading. -

May of 2004. Actually had to look it up. -
Page one. You know, when the topic started? Just had to throw out a possibility.

There is an easy way to fix the part of coaster track spanning a midway: Wait until the offseason to put that section of track up. Then you dont have to close midway in order to put that up.

I heard about this, and thought that the KY government is offically killing the amusement industry in the state. There is no way that KK and Beech Bend (just to name a few) can hire that many 18 and over associates to run their rides. Just basing off of Beech Bend's operating schedule, Western Kentucky (which is also in Bowling Green) only overlaps the BB operating schedule by a week in the spring.

Coney to Add Three new Attractions in 2008
SOB_TOM replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
I would think that the Eagle is down for the count. Looking at pictures of the ride, I think it would be cheaper just to copy the ride and rebuild it that way rather than moving all that rotted out wood. The Eagle has had its day, and in the famous words, we say goodbye: "Houston, the Eagle has landed." -

The only time I have ridden the Rumbler was during an ACE event which included The Voyage a Holiday World right before it, so Rumbler was kind of a let down for me. Of course I was spoiled after 2 days of Voyage, Raven, and Legend. You have to admit Interp, if you take a truck into Beech Bend, theres only one ride you cant take with you -

Just glad that Kroger had gas at $3.21, and with Kroger card, $3.11. Glad I could fill up before driving 250 miles back down to WKU this weekend. -
As Parks Set Food Prices This Year...
SOB_TOM replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Im sure when that poll was done, it wasnt focused on theme parks. At the same time, I think prices are high for what we get, and if the park keeps serving the same food, then lower the prices. The normal park guest is already paying $50 to get in, and then the park expects them to pay close to what, $40-$50 to have a family of four eat at the park? When does common sense take over business concerns? Yes, I realize that Cedar Fair is a little low on cash, and there is a recession in the economy, but why should that stop KI from using its head and lowering some of its prices? Let common sense rule, and hopefully the world will right itself. -

Im really getting tired of hearing complaints from spoiled users on these forums. SO WHAT if Firehawk was used? Its still a great ride no matter if we got it straight from the manufacturer or from GL. I would rather see more garbage cans so that the park looks cleaner. An updated sign is never a bad thing. If we dont get anything this year, thats fine with me. There are still many, MANY attractions at the park that I will enjoy, instead of sitting here complaining about it on a website. P.S. Consider yourselves lucky. Until mid-May, all I have a Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY. Talk about a Zamperlia showroom. -
Actually, on SOB I believe there are 3 separate track walkers. I dont know exactly what part each person is responsible for, but I do know that the station is the meet up point for two of them.

I just noticed this: Look on the map at the Antique Cars. The names, in 72, were backwards of what the names ended up being. Les Taxi's ended up on the side near Racer, and OOAL was on the opposite side. Never noticed that before.
-
Like I said, close your eyes. You will be fine.

I think its enough to have one unique ride in the park. That would be like building two Vekoma SLC's, putting them on opposite ends of the park, have one slightly bigger than the other, and call it a new attraction. Plus the space that a ride like Airbender (only larger) would take up would be astronomical. Look at the footprint that Airbender takes up, and to have anything remotely close to an "adult version" would be at least three times the length. Im thinking Racer, only about 300-400 ft. shorter on the out-route.

I actually find it interesting to see how much the park pays in taxes each year. Of course, they probabily get the majority of the $1.7 Million back somehow. And as for seeing what, if any, new rides are coming for 08/09, you cant. Apparently the park has a deal with the County to keep those off the books until its released. Right now it is displayed as ############ But my question is what is this memo: 96.26 ACRES STATE EASEMENT NO VALUE.

Heres a suggestion, and it works with all coasters: If you want to be surprised on a coaster, close your eyes. Works every time.

Personal deletion by SOB_TOM due to college roommate posting idiotic things under my name. Sorry for the inconvience

Seriously, how would your life improve? Does it pain you that much to see a coaster running differently than its twin next door?
