A "black out" is when the blood is pushed to your lower extremities, causing "tunnel vision" all the way to not being able to see at all. And yes, I have lost my vision, AKA "black out" on Invertigo. It was not an experience I wish to repeat.

As much as I like Vekoma hang and bangs and cookie cutter coasters, I will pass on Invertigo and Vampire. I have blacked out on both. As for Greased Lightning, I consider it a much better ride than the Vekoma Vertigos. There is more of a hang time in the loop on greased lightning, and much less blacking out.

Rumored Sea World Orlando coaster CONFIRMED
SOB_TOM replied to Delirium_Guy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Question though: How would you angle those in order to produce a spray 45 degrees (or so) away from the 90 degree banked car, while still keeping it clear of the entire structure, and maintaining a head clearance for the ride? Kind of difficult unless you would just put metal fins on it. Guess we just have to wait and see (patience young grasssmoker, we will find out soon enough) -
Rumored Sea World Orlando coaster CONFIRMED
SOB_TOM replied to Delirium_Guy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Depends on how the park wants to approach that: If they want to do almost daily fiberglass work on the trains, they will have the frame touch the water. If not, they will either install steel fins to the train's spine, or put in geysers pointed away from the train. -
Lets clarify: I would never ride Cobra again if they used the original track. Laden with metal rot due to using Japanese steel (not as resiliant as US steel) as well as TOGO going out of business, which drove the cost of parts up, its not worth building again. And yes, Cobra MIGHT return again, as pop cans.....

I remember working on TRTR and getting bored with the whole "technical difficulty" broken down spiel. Here were our creative answers: "The duct tape fell off and they are replacing it." "Durga's curse finally fell upon the ride." "Buddah called and said that the ride needed to be rethemed since Durga was kicked out of the Panthenon." I know, nothing to do with Hindu culture but funny. And I am completely serious about this next conversation: Guest: "What happened to TRTR?" Me: "Oh it ran out of gas." Guest: "How will I know when it opens back up?" Me: "Once you see the giant tanker truck going through the park, give us about 15 minutes to refill the tank and it will be ready to go." Geust: "Oh, ok. Just curious but what type of gas milage does TRTR get?" Me: "About 5 rotations per gallon."

Except that the border is digitally added, and it doesnt take that much to redo a logo.....

Yup. I still remember the wiper blades going, the missle racks, and the command areas.

Also, it could have been because where it was at the time, it was very easy to get to and do maintenance on. Plus, the loop was pretty far out there from the station, so the line runs are pretty far. SOB is one of the few rides that HAS to have fiber optic cables in order to get the video feeds to the station.

I was walking to break one day under the tower one lady asks me: "Excuse me, where's the Eiffel Tower?" My response? "In France." I was asked where the entrance to TRTR was standing underneath the giant ENTER sign.

Heres the problem though: You still have a broken wrist. You can do more damage to it, so ride at your own risk. Also, even if its only half of a cast, you can still flop it into someone's face, causing harm. I guess what Im saying is be careful. Tom, who now, for some odd reason, feels really old.

It is not recommended that you ride (pretty much) anything with a broken bone. They will not stop you cold but its definitely not recommended.

Scott Sloan takes on the Re-Reinvented Racer.
SOB_TOM replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Kings Island
I love the fact that many take everything for face value. Lets look at some other considerations that could be taken into account: Maintenance: With one side turned around, maintenance costs go up. Not to mention that there are other inspections that must be done, which costs more money. Manpower: On slow days, with recaR and Racer, both sides still had to be staffed. As much as you are not going to like this possibility, now they only need to staff one side, which will cut down on manpower costs AS WELL AS maintenance costs. There are other possibilities other than nostalgia that maybe, just maybe, Mr. Helbig does not want to put as the reason. Plus, nostalgic reasons might draw others into the park. -
"A rose by any other name still smells as sweet." As long as the rides dont really change, Im happy.

Cunningham and Sloan are raving idiots anyway. This is almost as bad as Markey trying to pass a law against roller coasters. This is just another reason for me NOT to listen to WLW. IF they have good programming on, then I have never heard it. -
I would have to say that The looping Star at Beech Bend. Seriously, after seeing a cup of ice not taken off of a ride that goes upside down and then being as rough as a steel can be, I probabily wont ride it.

Any word on what else is changing within The Crypt?
-
Yes it slows down. Why have a motor running at full speed while its not doing anything? It would cause more wear and tear on the motor. Same principle applies on why you shouldnt rev up your engine to running speed while in park, or with the brake on. It puts unneeded wear and tear on the motor.

The book started out for 5th graders (because J. K. Rawlings kid was in the 5th grade) and the next book was for 6th graders, ect. all the way up to 11th grade. So no, the books are not just for little kids, they are for a child to grow up reading. Smart move IMO.

Top Gun/Flight Deck (when do those names kick in? Beginning of the season?) is a high capacity ride in a spot where not much more can go and does not have much downtime. Why kill off a ride that A. You cannot replace with something or B. Does not decrease maintenance costs?

It wouldnt matter if they removed more seats to increase spins, that is dependent on the program. And most likely, there will be no preshow, and the program CAN stay the same, the soundtrack has to be edited to remove the spoken word of Angelina Jolie and her father (forget the actor's name sorry.) As for the monkey statues, those can be played out as not part of the Tomb Raider experience. Its not something that would not be found outside that realm.
