Actually, if you do the math, its going to lose speed just because of the new trains. Since weight is a factor on total speed in a downhill fall, im predicting it will lose close to 5 MPH just down the hill, if not more. Doesnt sound like much, but its enough to make a general feel change. There are already trims at the top of the rosebowl. They are just so loud that you could hear them clearly in the station, so they turned em off.

Its awfully nice that these apply to families. Target audiences are so lucky.....

It was quite a pain to wait in line for Firehawk for 2 hrs just to leave line because of the policy. Not to mention the overhangs only cover about a quarter of the line, and Ryan and I were baked before that (sun, not the other other other tobacco)

Minor Magnum accident
SOB_TOM replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, there went riding that on Tues. -
Those are not kicker wheels. Those actually operate the reclining action of the seats. There are metal plates embedded in the station floor. These are driven up either pneumatically or hydraulically, pushing those wheels up. This tilts the seats to a slightly reclined, sitting up posistion. When the train dispatches, these plates withdrawl into the floor and the seats tilt to the lying down posistion. I have heard that the origonal design of Fire-Flight had these wheels following a track all the way up the lift hill, keeping you in the sitting up posistion until you are at the top, where it would then recline, but apparently this did not work out.

When did you start going to KI and where did you hear about KIC?
SOB_TOM replied to Young Gunz's topic in Kings Island
I have been going to KI ever since I was a wee lad. And when I first heard about this site? Probabily when it was mentioned on the old PKIU, and started posting when the merger happened...... which led to my notorious argument with Ryan on my side porch one morning at like 4am..... and the rest is history. -
Maureen, It is a sad day when I learned this news. The park is losing one of the best personnel in the park. I wish you the greatest of luck in the future endeavors. P.S. Heres hoping that you will keep posting!

Tuskin, Each print for AT cost $25,000, and will wear out around halfway through the season. Since Side A (3d side) required 2 prints for the 3d effect, thats $50,000 just for half the season, so you are talking 100k just for one side operation just for the film itself. Not to mention normal maintenance costs. Also, when they replace the movie, it is threaded into the projectors, an EPROM disk is inserted into the computer (think Sega Genesis game disk) and the data is loaded into the computer. All the seats follow a "virtual seat," which cuts down on timing errors and also makes it impossible for a seat to run the wrong program. All in all, it takes probably 1-2 hrs to load in a new film and to reprogram the ride. As for the F-15's: All fighters can land on carriers, no matter what unit they are under. Coming off the assembly line, they are equipped with the tail hook that Navy planes use. The reason for that is in case of brake failure, the pilot will go drop the tail hook and grab an emergency landing line at the end of the runway, causing the fighter to stop. This is the exact same way the Navy lands their planes. It is different with bigger planes, which use a catch net instead of the line. Think of a fishing net only thicker and bigger.

Its a way for CF to cover their backsides in case someone gets hurt. Nothing more.

BAFFD was a nightmare for employees. During the first one in 2002, I was working on SOB, and it was nothing but problem after problem due to the increased crowd. Good riddance.

None yet. Im too worried about this tooth of mine that is disintegrating in my mouth at the moment. I hate not having dental.

I waited 5 hrs for FoF when it first opened, and got the OSTR treatment.
-
Those OSTR's sucked. I go to an oxygen bar every once in awhile: Its called the woods.

Maverick Testing Photos

Let them live in their fantasy world. It will hurt less when they come to realize what has happened. -
No, what sucks is trying to find a golf ball you hit into an embankment that is coated with snow. That second shot was not fun. Shot a 107, with a birdie chip in on 18. Bad round, good finish.

Question: How can The Beastie be the father of The Beast? It doesnt make sense to me. And wasnt SOB a illigit son?

Actually, Paramount made a great effort at Winterfest (look at Toy Factory). The problem was it wasnt generating enough profit to make it executable for future years. I was anti-Paramount because they would take a decent ride, theme it, and then let the theming go to rot. Look at Gun. You never see theming on it anymore. TRTR is another great example. The ride is good (with theming,) but now the theming is starting to fall apart to the point that antechamber is never used (staffing has things to do with that as well, but the door show doesnt work.)

Yeah, you can count on Tom not being at the park if its that darn cold. Not to mention I will be at Wright-Patt for that weekend anyway

CF could be sending a few messages with this: #1 is that GL's days might be numbered as a hard park. It looks like the big attractions are being moved out, but going to different parks. #2 CF is trying to update the rides list at KI. While the list of overall attractions is great, KI is still lacking some types of coasters, and it could be that Firehawk is just the start. Also, many ENTHUSIASTS have been to GL. But how many blue collar, 2.5 kids, married families have been to GL? Remember, in this business you dont play completely to the enthusiasts, but to the family of 4, because they spend more money in the long run.

Some flat rides still have turnstyles. Train, Troika, and Dodgems are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I have seen a lot of paranormal activity, and one in which freaked me out enough to leave a place, and I dont freak out to paranormal activity at all. I was at Western KY University, and a couple friends of mine and I were exploring an abandoned building. Nothing happened on the first two stories, however when we went into the basement, all three of us started hearing metal on metal scraping (not like chains, but like small metal tools on trays) and when we passed by a room, all three of us heard a voice ask for a scalpel. After that, we all left. Turns out that the building we were in was an old army hospital.

Dont forget, I AM on these *hic* boards.

Its laws like this that remind me that I am defending people like these idiots. Go ahead and sue. If I was the judge, I would tell them all to stuff a sock in it, the county approved the attraction after taking input from around the area, and if they didnt like it, and didnt feel that there input was taken into effect, then they should have got off of their lounge chairs, put on clothes, and gone down to the counsil meetings back then. Too late, the ride is in, this is part of the county's money makers, and its not going anywhere. Bye bye lawsuit. Edit by Mods: Keep the forums family friendly please.

Ok, the story behind those maintenance roads are such: Behind the old Laser Tag building is indeed a maintenance road, however, you have to go around the turn by FX theatre of The Racer in order to go on it. The clearance on this road is like 6` something. So maintenance rarely uses it. Now the maintenance road behind Racer is a huge maintenance road. This one is used quite often, except for the part that is located between the FoF midway and The Racer station is abandoned. Its not used other than to turn around. However, there is no room for anything big in that area, so I personally would leave it alone, maybe make it a nuclear waste area with a lake or something. As for the construction, I cannot say at this time, however where I saw the work is nowhere near where Firehawk is on that old maintenance road. I am thinking though that the park is kicking away the road a little from the back of FoF because it constantly has potholes, as well as erosion every year.

I remember that the first thing that my family would do is take the right turn into HB and ride Phantom Theatre. I remember being stopped by a rhino on the Wild Animal Habitat. It wouldnt move off the track for like 10 minutes. Scrappy's Slide, which was right in front of the Elephant fountain. I still remember when Cheers was in Festhaus.
