ugh. yes, you would have a lot of room. the land however is pretty hilly and Son of Beast is in a valley. it would be hard to have pathways down there without flattening the land a bit, which would cost a ton. If they removed the ride, it most likely wouldn't get anything new till at least two years either... parks just dont on a whim put rides and pathways in, it takes extensive planning, and money. money which Cedar Fair is probably not willing to spend right away if they were to remove sob which would be extremely costly

Rank Kings Islands roller coasters from best to worst
jondrewfoo replied to zachman's topic in Kings Island
1. Son of Beast 2. Beast 3. Flight of Fear 4. Vortex 5. Invertigo 6. Flight Deck 7. Racer (Blue preferred) 8. Adventure Express 9. Diamondback 10. Backlot Stunt Coaster 11. Firehawk -
oh. you would be surprised. I didnt even visit in '07 till i heard Son of Beast was open. I went a week later. It is a prominent ride, and while it has its reputation it does serious damage being closed. people make up rediculous stories when rides close down, and many other truely believe the stories when they see the ride down, and the confusion that surrounds it when you ask employees. (down for maintenance, anyone?) It is a serious thing to lose a coaster, especially one of that magnitude. It was the tallest thing in the park until Diamondback.... I really want to know how they are going to pitch 2010 season pass sales with all this change and potential loss of many rides coming this offseason... New for 2010, fewer rides! Longer Lines! and lets not forget generic characters!!!

man, Cedar Fair is in for a big backlash if they were to not have that operating next year. That ride had so much hype when it came out, it was on every Kings Island sign within 30 miles. so many families ride that ride together, it has a quick line but still fills its ques. It does however need some upkeep, the guns seem to be hit and miss. two of the three guns when i rode today had no sound and you could barely get 30 points if you tried ever so hard. That has happened on multiple occassions now...

because we may not know everything about Cedar Fair, but we can look at their track record. they don't do things they don't have to or that they don't deem necessary (the crypt, anyone?). they would not spend money on a new fun and safety guide unless they had to. They wouldnt remove the pole, if they were going to put up a new sign in the near future. At Geauga Lake they just silently removed the park with no warning whatsoever. The guide could just be down to not confuse people, but it simply just doesnt look good. I honestly just hope Cedar Fair knows what they are doing... from all the silence, to the sloppy changing of the website this hasn't been Cedar Fair's greatest moment, for sure...

no, i was there today. its all gone...
-
you can if you pay the normal admission i would guess.
-
yeah. i have a feeling if they are committed to doing anything to SOB, we will see some activity during the offseason rather quickly.
-
This is a serious matter, you know... i sincerely hope that that was not a serious comment.

You must remember that while it may be the cheapest option, it is definitely not the smartest option. Its bad publicity to hear a ride just sitting there to rot that is the next biggest ride in the park. They have already released that they will not reopen this ride this season. I honestly think that shows that we may have some hope for the ride. I doubt they would make that statement without even considering the effect it will have later if they decide to close it for good. If they were going to close the ride down, they probably would have just gotten it over with and said so. There would be no need to have two bad press releases after the whole investigation... it just wouldn't make sense. At least in the general public's opinion, that is... they would just see them as having something to hide as long as that ride was standing. It would probably do more damage SBNO than if it was open reputation wise... The only reason i could see that they would leave it open ended is to try and get the early season pass sales before they announce that they will lose a star attraction (actually, most likely two star attractions...) and not receive anything in the near future. That cant look good, especially with Kings Island being the bright spot on Cedar Fairs financial reports....

Holiday World to get new ride in 2010?
jondrewfoo replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
seems like a waste of 5.5 million. it has a terrible capacity, too. unlike rollercoasters theres no like midbrake or anything so your gonna have to wait that whole time just for 5 people to go. dissapointing... i really just like the long tube rides that start at the top of the hill and slowly rocket down quite fast like tiki river run at big kahunas in destin, florida. -
@Firehawk123 Firehawk definitely breaks down all the time. It has been down for whole days before, waiting on parts or for other reasons. I have had it break down while i was in line multiple times, and half the time i ride it they are only running one train, or are running both just not both loading stations. it simply is not open a ton. In fact, most days it doesnt even open on time with the park, you have to wait like ten mins....
-
but looking heavy is one totally different thing from actually being heavy. id really like to know.
-
ive got a question. how heavy are the timberliners as apposed to the trains they have now, or the old trains? they would be pointless if they are heavier than what we currently have...
-
once i just threw all my stuff in the lockers after lunch. i didnt come back till after the park closed, and had to be excorted to the lockers by a security guard (they dont want people raoming causing trouble that late...)

Kings Island is not going to rename a generic ride name. Diamondback will be called Diamondback for a very, very long time. i believe the person in the video is just mad about all the other Kings Island names that went generic in 2008. Flight deck, anyone? reptile cage is super generic, and exactly his point. the comments on that video were beyond rediculous, though...
-
no time limit, but every time you open it you have to repay 75 cents.
-
took them long enough... i honestly think they wont even announce anything else until it happens. if it sits to rot, well just have to see it not open next season. its not a fun game to play, the waiting game...

kis really are super slow. even if they bumped em up a tad, they would still be slow. id much rather go to coney island and do their bumper cars any day.

Holiday World to get new ride in 2010?
jondrewfoo replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
they may have gotten better, but the capacity is bad. we went when gwl was almost empty and still had to wait at least 10 mins for that thing every single time. -

i hope they dont get a proslide. the one at gwl isnt really all that great. a neat concept, but 540 pph is a terrible capacity... -
yeah normally its just one ride, and another ride as a backup. my guess is they just trained the crew for another ride. i have seen them at white water canyon and at drop zone...
-
they still have at least one of the sob crews on staff now. i saw them 2 saturdays ago running drop zone.
-
your kidding about The Bat, right? they didnt bank the turns and it caused an extreme amount of stress along the track and the wheels. the braking system was horrible as well... it really had no future. Son of Beast has been through a bit, but not near that much of a maintenance nightmare. there are plenty of people who still love sob, as well... i dont think ive ever seen Son of Beast with an empty line on a public operating day... (i did ride it with absolutely no line on GE day multiple times, however...)
-
with that logic you wouldnt build anything....
