Kings Island 2017 Discussion Thread
Pagoda Gift Shop replied to Magenta Lizard's topic in Kings Island
That question has already been answered in the preview night thread. https://KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/32640-2017-gold-platinum-passholder-preview-night/&do=findComment&comment=765214 -
I'm with you, Quantum. I think it is going to be a crowd favorite. I still think it will be in the running as the most popular coaster at the park. In a way, I feel bad for The Beast and The Racer, because they are about to get compared to a modern wooden coaster. I remember my view of both The Beast and Racer changed a lot after I went to Holiday World for the first time to ride Raven and Legend.

If years past are any indicator, a new KI app will be available in the app store soon. They almost always have a new one the releases with the new season.

Following directions is definitely a big deal in terms of making things go smoothly. The larger the group, the less likely everyone follows directions. The park can certainly look at ways to help as well though. Thanks for sharing the info, Magenta. I'm glad to hear they won't be splitting the line alphabetically. I couldn't have told you why things were taking so long, I only knew that having to wait in an hour line just to check in for a pre-registration only event seemed strange.
-
Eh, the people working might be doing a great job, but there needs to be more of them. That has been probably my only pet peeve about events at Kings Island in recent years. They know exactly how many people are registered for events, so there is no excuse in my mind for not being prepared for 75% of them to show up at check in time. I'm not sure if that is a staffing issue or what, but the check in line is often the longest one you will have to wait in at an event. (It was really cold in that 5:30 AM Banshee line. )

*If* Backlot Stunt Coaster was removed....
Pagoda Gift Shop replied to XSHADOWx's topic in Kings Island
I think if you remove a coaster, you should replace it with a coaster. So my vote would be for another coaster when it gets removed someday. BLSC is a fun ride and should stay around for years to come, but I have to agree that it is one of the ugliest coasters ever built. -
I know we are all eager to watch the construction, but the construction site is now pretty much back in the woods. I'm hoping for a good camera shot to watch the station being built, but that's about it. On the bright side, I think there is probably a good chance more construction photos will be released.

Just in time for the season! Err, wait.
-
It's funny to say, but the season really follows an upward trend of attendance from start to finish. Bad weather days and September (due to so many private events) are the exceptions.

Climbing in the what?

In terms of the theft problem, I think this issue is mostly related to strollers. Planet Snoopy always has tons of strollers, many of which are left unattended for periods of time. Many of those strollers now have bright orange cups sitting on them. They are easy to spot, and easy to take. A locker doesn't always make sense in this case, since people are not going to be putting a stroller into a locker. The best advice might be to make sure to completely cover the cup(s) with something, but the risk is still there. As for those who are riding lots of rides, the cost of lockers and/or preferred parking is one that you have to factor into the total cost of the cup. For me, it greatly reduces the savings of buying the cup, not to mention having to lug it around.

Sorry I should have added some winking emoticons to my post. I never bought into the "nostalgia" reason, although I understand that they would never want to say it was because of any sort of legal advice that the change was made. The 2013 Facebook post is interesting though. It makes it sound like the 2008 decision was more of a step back to fully consider the safety issues. It does not seem out of the realm of possibility that it could return someday. Racer is bound to be around forever, so maybe in another 10 years...

Bumping an old thread because I saw this reply to a tweet earlier this month... https://twitter.com/KingsIslandPR/status/777230309704294400 So I guess, we all had it wrong. It wasn't nostalgia after all. It was ridership!
-
Yep, and that change for Snake Pit was pretty strange. It was done during the season instead of before the season began.
-
If they could safely use it for something, that would be pretty awesome.

Standalone room: Eiffel Tower elevator to the top...410 stairs down. Terrifying!

We're not sure where the crane came from.

Well, to be fair, I don't think Lightning Rod had any vertical construction issues. It was more the testing phase when the problems started happening. My guess would be that vertical construction on Mystic Timbers would be completed in January or February depending on the weather.

What's Gary's ride count up to now? Hasn't he pretty much set the world record at this point?
-
I'm fairly sure that most coasters are constructed by local construction companies and not the ride designer. GCI engineers will likely be involved with the wooden track itself, but everything else is standard construction work until the testing phase.

For those that missed it, Six Flags announced all their new rides for 2017 this week. The only coasters being built are clones of existing rides. Mystic Timbers looks poised to compete for best new ride of 2017 against InvadR at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. So if you are still sad it isn't a Giga or an RMC, no other parks are getting those for 2017 either...unless Cedar Point plays spoiler later this month.

Yeah I think anyone who goes to the park tonight will not be disappointed. Dollar Days will have more of an impact on crowds tomorrow and Sunday.
-
Does that mean they are announcing the Haunt details tonight?
