Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

I blame Italian Job...well kinda. Car rides seem to be a good fit for these campout events due to the amount of grass available in the ride area. They also don't have any dangerous "low zones" or electrical systems (typically). The only problem is the limited amount of total space. Putting everyone in the picnic area is also easier for security reasons. They can essentially lock them in so that they can't wander off into areas they should not be.

Kings Island 2015 Discussion Thread

All of your reasons are legitimate, but they don't explain why the stacking has been so much worse for the past few years. Diamondback has dealt with all of those issues since it opened, so why would they be causing more issues now than 5 years ago? -
Cedar Point 2016 Talk
Pagoda Gift Shop replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Things took a weird turn tonight when someone noticed that a "Cedar Point VR" app was being shown in the Google Play store. It's now been pulled, but you can still view the app page from the Google cache. The app was offered by Cedar Fair. -
I agree that a midget show doesn't seem like the best idea. I didn't actually attend Haunt that year to see it, so I can't comment more than that. However, I do understand that the crowds for Haunt are much younger in average age. I wonder what the average age actually is? 19-21? It's not the easiest thing to come up with shows that appeal to that demographic.

The scare thing happened during last year's campout at Cedar Point. They didn't do it again at the one earlier this year. They are clearly not going to try something like that again based on the reaction from last year.

Personally, I like Dorney's campout. It includes an evening meal and Dinosaurs after Dark. Although, it is tough to compete with Fury 325. The worst are Knott's and Worlds of Fun, which have no evening ERT. In the case of Worlds of Fun, no morning ERT either! I sincerely hope they are going to update the itinerary... I guess this proves corporate was serious about rolling this out to all other parks this year (except Kings Dominion apparently).

I just found the website for this local Cincinnati shirt company. There are some minor differences, but it seems possible that Kings Island is working with them on some of these shirts. They obviously have permission to be using the logos. They also have Son of Beast, Demon, and Phantom Theater shirts! http://www.cincyshirts.com/index.php/cincyshirts/vintage-cincy-shirts/cincinnati-amusement-park-vintage-shirts.html

Oops. I tried to fix. Re-uploaded.

Here's a photo I snapped about two weeks ago of the retro shirts. Note that they also have some different colored t-shirts with just the old style Kings Island font on a separate display. The blue shirt on the bottom left says "Opening Spring 1972" and lists the rides that opened with the park. A huge kudos to Kings Island for having this type of merchandise! I hope it is selling. Now if I could just get an Adventure Express shirt...

I hope the hotel that was booked was not Kings Island Resort. -

I was definitely not thrilled when they made both sides of Racer go forward again. This was mostly because I knew it meant they would also use it as a reason to only run 1 side during low attendance times. My annoyance was increased by the non-answer the park gave as the reason for the change. However, now that it is years later, I can see why the park did it. It seems clear that Cedar Fair has evaluated and re-evaluated rides in terms of their safety status and eliminated anything that could be considered questionable. I wonder how much effort it would have been to reach out to PTC or whoever could give a full safety approval to recAR. More baffling to me are their policies on the Arrow suspended coasters. (Add seat belts! Take seat belts off! Change Iron Dragon height requirement to 48" after 27 years...)

I always knew the red side cheated to win. This proves it!

Yes that would be terrible. The local newspaper might even write a story about it!

Kings Island 2015 Discussion Thread
Pagoda Gift Shop replied to Nick_Plummer's topic in Kings Island
I'm sure news will be coming soon about Haunt. It is usually towards the end of July that any construction and planning for Haunt begins to take shape. -
Yeah I can't judge because I haven't had the chance to ride either one, but from what I've read, it feels like each one was a bit of an experiment. I wonder if the fact that Kings Island has an existing dark ride makes any difference in whether it will eventually be a candidate for one of those rides.

Kings Island 2015 Discussion Thread

If they don't paint Firehawk for a couple more seasons, I get the feeling we will see X-Flight come to life again before our very eyes. -
According to this report the tourist being chased by skeletons was working on Sunday July 5th. I rode the ride yesterday (July 13th) and it was not. Broken again I suppose. Also, all 3 of the guns didn't work at all in the car we rode in. I'd like to see this ride get updated/replaced with a new dark ride, but I'm not sure how I feel about the recent Triotech rides that have been installed at Canada's Wonderland and Knott's Berry Farm.

Kings Island's Wurlitzer 157 Band Organ Plays Again!
Pagoda Gift Shop replied to hosscat's topic in Kings Island
I give the park a ton of credit for continuing to pursue this project. I was glad to hear the organ working again last season, but it definitely sounded like it was still a work in progress. Great job on the improvements! I look forward to listening to the organ every time I visit! -
Having events that are interactive with park guests is a complete waste of the social media platform? I agree that the behind-the-scene tours are a nice thing to have, but they happen too infrequently, and really are only interesting for more of the "hardcore" fans of the park. I wouldn't think the tweet-ups are done for those of us who frequent forums like this. They are done for more of the average park-goer, particularly those who are teenagers. For those folks, the chance for free front-of-the-line passes is pretty awesome. That is going to attract a broader audience, and isn't the point to get as many twitter followers as possible? I don't necessarily think Kings Island needs to follow the same model and have tweet-ups all the time. As you said, maybe the app can fill that role in a better capacity. Tony Clark is hardly a "walking slot machine" at Cedar Point. For many he is the "face" of the park. The tweet-ups might be mostly about free stuff, but the end result is that more people are paying attention. How many park guests can actually identify someone that works at Kings Island?
-
I hope this isn't the case. Being followed around and "identified" by people is exactly the kind of positive social media presence the park should want. It means people are paying attention to what is going on at the park, even when they are not there. I'm sure Tony Clark can't go anywhere at Cedar Point without being identified and asked about tweet ups. I'm not sure exactly how the different parks handle social media. I know Cedar Point has a team of people that manage it, which I believe is a little different than other parks in the chain.
