I have friend in VA. Before I joined this site I knew NOTHING about other out of state parks. She sent me pictures of her families trip to KD. She then spent an hour trying to convince me that they didn't go to KI!!!!! We spent all evening sending pictures back and forth, comparing the 2 parks.....It was really strange seeing something that familiar, so far away, and having no idea it was there. BTW she had no idea about KI either, so it was strange for us both.

Geauga Lake Double Loop
Tomkatt7 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yep, for the "pups" that still don't get it, rent National Lampoons Vacation. My favorite movie of all time. If I took the whole clan cross-country, thats exactlly how it would be!!!! I'm not too sure I'd get out of the pool with Christy to go chase down the wife though..... -
So is it Magic Mountain, or Discovery Kingdom that was in the news relating to the 49ers? Something about building a new stadium on the property? There was a question of ownership too.

I'm just glad someone else is old enough to "get it" Most people just think it's a weird refrence to Wal-Mart...... BTW, you should see my WallyWorld golf cart I built!!! -
Geauga Lake Double Loop

would be nice if it is true, but I doubt it will happen... They'll save it for "awhile" but eventually it will start rotting, and it will be torn down for "safety" -
Geauga Lake Double Loop

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. So am I. Here is mine. If you think CF closed Geauga Lake just to make you mad, or to "steal" rides for other parks, then you need to grow up. You signed up here today, have posted in 2 forums....One forum you bash CF for closing GL. The other, you bash KI for having too much trash in the park. This is a site where everyone, or should I now say, the majority of people like, and visit Kings Island. You are not going to come here, bash CF, and get everyone here to hate them because they closed GL. Cedar Fair is not the wicked step mother here. They closed GL because it made sense to do so. It's gone, and it isn't coming back. No one is going to save the Big Dipper. It sucks, but thats the reality of it. -
If someone has some time.....I was wondering where all these 6F parks are....GA and NE seem easy enough.....but Great America, Disc Kingdom????? No Idea... LOL

Geauga Lake Double Loop
Tomkatt7 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Everyone here understands the anger you feel about losing the park. But you can't really throw things like that out there. How would you feel if they did this and that????? Point is....Geauga Lake was huge drain.....It lost money, year after year. It was over developed by Six Flags too quickly, and had more debt than income. I was not surprised by it's closing. I don't think anyone was, regardless of what they say now. I visited The Lake a few years ago.....I was so upset with park management, employee service, and poor maintenance, that I vowed I'd never go back. Now, if you want to talk about people that loved the park, I would have to remind you that it seems that more people left in my frame of mind than yours. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm happy it closed, because I'm not. People just have a habit of sensationalizing something after it's gone. It was a nice small park, nothing more. It was in dire need of an overhaul. The entire was ran down, and broken down. It would have been a huge investment to bring it up to snuff. With the low attendance, no one would justify putting even more money into it. Please don't think I'm just trying to bash your favorite park. I just have a very strong opinion about it too. It just happens to be the oppisite of yours. -
LOL Any chance this person sells Dippin Dots?

The western theme is just a guess based on other stuff they've done. It sort of mixes with the Rivertown theme, but a little different. I would hope that they'd keep it "local" if they choose an animal name, and the ones that have been mentioned are intimidating enough!

From ODNR: Ohio has only three species of venomous snakes, two of which have rattles at the end of the tail (Eastern Massauga & Timber Rattlesnake). The third species is the Northern copperhead. Although many believe the water moccasin occurs in Ohio, it actually ranges no farther north than the Dismal Swamp in southeastern Virginia in the eastern portion of its range, and extreme southern Indiana and Illinois, in the western part of its range. Water moccasins are not native to Ohio. So, I would say Copperhead is a great possibility. I like it better than rattlesnake, or massauga, I don't even know how to SAY that one!!!

What rides make you "black out"
Tomkatt7 replied to DropZone99's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I was ridding King Cobra for the first time, came out of the helix, and when we "snapped" upright, I got real dizzy, and tunnel vision. I was almost passed out, not really hanging on, or even knowing where I was for that matter, and then that dip to the side hit! My head slammed over and hit either my shoulder, or the restraint. Not sure which one. It busted my mouth something terrible. My teeth actually cut into my bottom lip!!!!! I was still dazed and confused when we rolled into the staion. My girlfriend was screaming, I looked like I just went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, blood all over my face and shirt. People in the station started screaming, the workers came running over to help me out. I was stepping in post holes just trying to walk. Needless to say, that was my ONLY ride on King Cobra, but hey, I got a free shirt out of the deal!!! -
They drained Swan Lake to make it.... maybe we could call it "Ugly Duckling" As much fun as I think it would be to have a naming contest, and have our ideas heard, I have a hard time believing that they would spend this much money on a ride, and not have a name and full theming already planned out..... I did like Weld-A-Beast when I read it, pretty good! or maybe Gold Rush, something to that effect being in River town

OK, here is the "sneak" inside me. Kings Island Inn Resort runs shuttles to and from the park every half hour. Get a hand stamp, jump on the shuttle like you are staying in the hotel, and eat at their resturant, then catch the shuttle back to the park. That would probably save loads of money. I doubt that they can check to see if you're staying at the hotel, so anybody can jump on the shuttle.

Consumers Fork Out For Cedar Fair
Tomkatt7 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'll be the first to say I don't like the prices at KI. After you pay 20 bucks to park, and 50 per person to enter, a 4 dollar soda just seems greedy. Here is why it really doesn't matter too much to me though. I work 40 hours a week, just like most people, so does my wife. We live in C-Bus, so going down to KI in the afternoon is not an option. We make one trip to the park a year, and make that a mini-vacation. A two day pass, and a few nights in a local hotel. Budgeting plays a part in every trip. KI has lots to offer, Shirts, hats stuffed animals, games, concessions, you name it. We take a certain amount of "blow" money every trip. Just for a number, I'll say 100 dollars a day. Now the thing is, once it's gone, it's gone. If we spend 50 on dippin dots, then we spend 50 on games. Or 50 in a shop. They can't say that in park revenues are down because they aren't selling enough Coke. I'm just buying more trys at "whack-a-bat"!!!!LOL I guess I just always figured everyone was like that with a spending allowance. If they jack the prices up for something, they aren't getting any more money from me really, I'm just forced to spend less at other areas if it's something I really want. Make sense? -
As The Vortex sinks, are it's loops becoming more elliptical? LOL Just kidding, don't answer that one!

I "blackout" every weekend, after a large beerfront moves through the region.

I would have to say Six Flags Ohio. Went there in 2001, got to ride The Villian (which I loved, even though everyone else seems to hate it) 2 Rides were closed half the day, Superman and another big name one.LOL I can't remember because we had choose which one to make time for, and we chose Superman. Other than that, Raging Wolf Bobs, Big Dipper, Batman, Double loop, all closed, all day. Batman was the big ride that year. It was the focus of the TV spots, and when we got there, they even had a guy dressed up as Batman in front of a Batmobile putting on a little show in front of the station to the closed ride!!!! Now, you can't make something like that up! The other ride that we chose against was ridden by my sis and dad. Judging from the on ride photo, we picked the wrong one to ride. Dad looked liked he didn't know weather he should poop or puke!!!! It was a suspended coaster that went upside down if that helps. It was right next to Batman. I'm thinking it was orange or red.

10 Scariest Rides On The Planet
Tomkatt7 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The title seems a bit "off" from the story to me. They are all coasters, maybe not the one in Vegas, but all the rest. Point is, I get a bit of anxiety going up a big lift hill, but thats it. Never scared. On the other hand, I won't even consider getting in line for Delerium!!!! That thing scares me to death just looking at it! I used to love Skylab, but it's new big brother on steroids is just a bit much for me. Maybe it's just me, but a lot of the "flats" are much scarier than most coasters. -
Wow cool video!!! That was the first time I've the landing from that angle. He only cleared 23 of the trucks!!!! Landed on the safety ramp on top of the 24th truck!!!! He landed on his wheels and kept going, but didn't go the "whole" distance. So, is this a sucessful jump? or no? I'd say yes, just because he landed and kept going, but what do you guys think?
-
I read a lot, and participate some, in all the old arguments... which coaster is better, new names v.s. old, what kind of coaster are we getting. Why do people smoke....LOL But to me,this is what its all about!!! Great report. Seeing a kid smiling like that. I don't even know him, but here I am, grinning just looking at the pictures!!!! I can't wait to load up my clan and head down!!!!! End of July!!! We can't wait!!!!!

Has anyone ever said weather this jump will be on T.V. or not? I'll be out of town, but I'd like to see it.
