TheRickster replied to malem's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom

Honestly the payment plan is probably helping them a ton...

The Most Ridiculous Thing a Ride Operator has told you.
TheRickster replied to Original's topic in Rumors
They are actually the same building as Chick-Fil-A. The front half is chick fil a, then the back half that's hidden is the employee breakroom and cafeteria. You can easily see it on google maps. -
I'd argue that it really doesn't help that much. In fact when slower employees try to do it they end up having empty rows instead of just empty seats. But I can understand doing it on a ride with more of a line like Mystic Timbers. However Adventure Express was the only one doing it... Which is likely one of the biggest capacity coasters at the park. When I used to do it I'd just let people in until each stall was full, or if there was a stubborn stall I'd cut the line and then ask the next couple if they wanted to get right on or just mention it and usually people just gladly took it. Doing it this way also meant I didn't have empty rows on a train because I was busy with someone that needed height checked.

I always judge it from The Beast since that's where I spent two of my 5.5 years working there. I feel like we rarely opened a queue except for weekends or holidays. But I mean, 3 trains of people are probably now in the regular queue instead of in the loading gates with the separators holding the queue and only loading in a train at a time.
-
The park is so weird now. I remember if you went on a Monday or Tuesday early summer The Beast line would be at the bottom of the ramp up to the station, now 1 full queue house. It still moves a lot quicker than it looks, but it's just odd. I'd think with newer rides added it would thin out. Maybe the fact that they have a separator for Fast Lane holding the line and only loading one train at a time into the gates makes it back up and look a lot longer. I also hate that certain ridesk are assigning rows on rides that don't need it. I can understand doing this for rides that have longer lines. But Adventure Express had maybe a 5 minute wait. It was barely in the tunnel out of the station and they were not letting you pick what row you wanted.

They go back and fourth through there typically when leaving for lunch. The train engineers are actually also the mechanics so while you see the ones operating the train, others are also in the train shed working on things. Walking along those tracks is the quickest way to get to the break rooms and to the front station if they need to. A lot of people don't realize it, but those guys are almost all retired engineers who just really like trains and work there to stay busy in retirement. -
Hopefully heading in today. But have to see when maintenance is bringing the new garbage disposal first.
-
They want people to have a small break between rides. It's for people that might have an unknown preexisting condition that could cause a medical situation. They actually stopped letting people do that around 2007 as well, but apparently there was some consistency issues with enforcement or they got rid of it and then brought it back.

24 Stranded On Joker's Jinx at SFA
TheRickster replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
As our resident ADE President above said, a speed sensor could have caused the launch system to disable prematurely as well. But none of your points are technically incorrect. -
It should be on the website but I'm pretty sure you're allowed in until like 9:30. Just double check visitkingsisland.com or give them a call tomorrow.

Pretty much every amusement park has plain clothed security guards.

Kings Island is usually to busy even on slow days to go down in trains.

I'm almost convinced she's a troll account at this point lol.

ideas on what the park will do for its 50th anniversary in 2022
TheRickster replied to metalchic's topic in Kings Island
You'll probably get some fancy marketing, a special sign by the front of the fountains and that's about it as far as doing somethign special will go. -
Pretty much this. There is no way to enforce the old policy other than the parents opinion. Which sometimes isn't the best. Also the ride is so old it likely doesn't even have a manufacturer height requirement pretty sure that ride out dates Kings Island. If it did have a height requirement or even if they stated "able to sit up straight" the park has to do what it can to make sure it's operated safely and consistently. A lot of rides, especially older ones have a higher height requirement than recommended by the manufacturer.
-
Any of these changes are for safety. I'm honestly surprised the "as long as they can sit up" rule lasted as long as it did.

The perception is that people are becoming annoyed by the spieling. It's definitely not everywhere. The idea of getting people to clap and be excited when you ask how was your ride is lost when everyone hears it on every single train all day long. Also power hours weren't necessarily for capacity. That was just a side effect so we could clear the queue quicker at the end of the night. For the most part Vortex has been ok. Do you guys have a headset? I've noticed that's when this whole thing really started. I'm thinking part of it might be an experience thing. Since before only the person driving really had a microphone. I'm not worried about the jokes and stuff like some people are here, and some of the operators on certain crews are more than a bit overbearing with the mics. That has always been around for the most part to though. It was an especially fun time working at the park when the seatbelts started surprising guests. Now the FOF thing a Supervisor should have stepped in and perhaps they have. It also could have been a one time issue. But you should never give a false countdown on any ride let alone a launching ride like that. That's just asking for some type of a stupid injury when a guest finds a way to hurt themselves.
-
The spieling has really been around for years, even well into the Paramount days. the difference is just in the words they are using. When I was there (04-08) we really didn't do too much other than give some instruction. But now at like minimum they are trying to make every ride like a Beast power hour... There is just a case of diarhea of the mouth with most of them, and I think some of it is handed down from upper management. Whether that be from the park or CF.

The new mall in Liberty Center has taken away a lot of the food service employees as well, everything will be fine once we get past the first week of June.

This stuff happens all the time, including commercials. -
Yeah, wooden coasters are always being retracked and fixed. You never stop building them.

They are typically only on a limited restaurant list weekdays until juneish. Most of the employees are still in school so they can only work closing shifts and weekends.

Mystic Timbers Shed aging (Warning Shed Spoiler)
TheRickster replied to MaestroJr's topic in Kings Island
The majority of the effects are really simple. Adventure Express has ALOT of effects. I'm sure MT will be rather easily kept up for years to come. -
What are Kings Islands Plans after Mystic Timbers?
TheRickster replied to louisvillecards1's topic in Coming Attractions
An interactive dark ride experience is always going to be there now. Kids and families love them.
