2009 Golden Tickets

Fixed. -
*is jealous* Well, currently, I have the FOF ride music, the Enchanted Voyage song, the "Imagine a world..." spiel from FOF, and part of Flashback Totally 80's on my phone, so... I have the FOF ride music as well but I discovered I could never hear my phone ringing when I had it as my ring tone, so I changed it. I also have 3 other FOF songs on my iPod, along with the music from the stations of Millennium Force, Wicked Twister and Top Thrill Dragster, plus the spiels from Dragsters queue (Sunday Sunday Sunday!), Prowler station, and all the Holiday World coasters. Yes, I am a coaster nerd. Next time we're together you need to Bluetooth them to me. I currently have the Millennium Force theme, Cedar Point Theme Song, and "In Action" series on my iPod. I can't get any on my phone because Bluetooth is locked.

2009 Golden Tickets

These are nice bragging rights for the parks, but not much else. IMO, this just about sums up the entire Golden Ticket Awards: -
Kings Island can be counted as several things for me. My hang out place, my happy place, some would call it escapism, either way, the plain and simple fact is that for the most part whenever I'm at Kings Island, I'm happy. The lines could be streatched out the queues and I could be happy. The rides could all be closed and I could be happy. For me, Kings Island is a place I can go where I leave the worries and troubles of every day life at the gate. I can sit on the bench, watch the fountains and the tower, hear the roar of the coasters, watch a show, get an ice cream, ride a ride or two, and feel like I'm in my own little safe haven. I also have to agree that the best of trips are spent with friends. A year ago, I didn't know anyone from this site, and didn't think it mattered. I was contempt with a solitary park. But now, having met so many people here, and enjoyed so many days together, I feel as if it's incomplete to ride a ride with the seat next to me empty. It's good to hang out with people like you, people who understand you, people who by definition know you and your flaws and like you anyway, and can talk with and ride with and enjoy the park with. Kings Island for me is much more then a park. It's a place where I can feel safe and happy and can enjoy the company of good people, it's my happy place, my own 360 acres of peace, fun, and so much more.

I just squirted milk onto my screen.

Of all the coasters I have ever ridden, the helix ending on The Beast is the best finale of any of them. I will suffer through the first minute and a half of brakes just for that 540 degrees of bliss.

Switch it to the reggae station or "Margaritaville", that would be a helluva lot better.

Planet Snoopy (bringing your children?) in 2010.

I can see dear Terpy on Ka, El Toro, and in the Night Row, but I can not possibly imagine you on Frog Hoppers and Kiddie Whips! -
SHOOT THE RAPIDS at Cedar Point

Is it smart to theme a ride around alcohol? It's kinda like naming Diamondback "The tobacco attack" -
Son of Beast has gone through overhaul after overhaul, each with little to no effect. Not to mention the ride has a reputation, even if the ride is perfectly safe people will still think it's a bad ride. I say, remove the ride and rid yourself of the Lemon that Wouldn't Die.

And I believe that in our capitalist society that they have the financial numbers to back it up...otherwise they wouldn't spend the money. Now to answer YOUR question: To say I was EXPECTING something other than The Peanuts may be pushing it…but I will admit that I still had hopes that it would be SOMETHING other than them…even a “generic” theme would have been better in my opinion. AND, if you are wondering how I could have been so naïve / optimistic I blame The Interpreter! He has been hinting that The Peanuts license may not cost “peanuts” and so it may not have been a sure thing…and I CHOSE to hope that the license was too expensive…at least it kept me happy a little longer! I have never considered this a "war"...I am having a good time debating this subject...I think 95% of everyone's comments have been very mature...I certainly hope I am not offending anyone, I just feel strongly about this subject. I swear, everytime I post about it I think "Well, there's no more to say"...then just like in The Godfather someone says something "That drags me back in again"! I do not think anyone will "proove" their side of this debate until a few years down the road when some financial numbers slip out. Ah ok. It makes much more sense to "Hope" for not Peanuts, then to expect it, considering there's a Peanuts area at every other Cedar Fair park! While I disagree with the opinion that even a generic kids area would be better, you're entitled to your opinion and that's fine by me. Personally, the idea of that cute little beagle flooding my home park makes me want to go and buy 4 season passes, but if you insist... And, knowing Cedar Fair, they would most likely either post great numbers of how Snoopy is wildly popular, or not post any at all. I don't expect to much of a change, but I've been wrong before. Ok, that seriously made me Laugh out loud.

The Cliff violates every single law of Cedar Fair's wood maintenance plan. It has amazing airtime, no trim brakes, Buzz Bars, no Head rests, it's like the defiant teenager of the wooden coaster world! And I like it that way. The Cliff gave me bruises from all the airtime, even with a buzzbar, it is that intense. The rest of the ride is fantastic to, there's decent airtime on nearly every hill of that wonderful ride! It's too bad it can't be counted as a classic woodie, since it was built in 1993, despite looking and feeling just like one.

That's a good point, Beast Rider. I can understand how one could really get upset once they realize it's final, not just a rumor. I felt the same way when they had the announcement for Big Bad Wolf's removal, I never got to ride it and I felt extremely mad. I learned to live with it though, and adapt to the fact that I won't be able to ride it. I'm sure Nick lovers will be able to do the same, as will Son of Beast lovers.

^^Do you mean: Yes, and while I don't know everything about parks and why they do things (And neither do you, or nearly anyone else on this board), I would guess that it is because they believe a kids area themed to something, not just a generic kidzville, would be much more welcoming or customer friendly. Whether that's true or not, it's anyone's guess. Kids are quite happy with the kids area at Holiday World from what I hear, but a kids area themed to a show might help with satisfaction. And again, what show it is doesn't seem to make a difference, to most, at least. Jackson, who wants to get out of this war....

That would be just as, if not more ancient then Snoopy! While I would have loved that, I just never saw that happening.
-
Did you expect something OTHER then Peanuts as a replacement?!
-
If that were the case, then they probably would have gotten a head start on it. Rides did not start clearing out until 2007 with X-Flight and Steel Venom. However, it has been noted by those who have been to the park during both Six Flags and Cedar Fair eras, that the transition of the park, visible on rides such as Batman Knight Flight and the childrens areas were evident of Cedar Fair's possible future of the park, like removing the logos of the front of the train and replacing it with nothing, not keeping the paint on the rides up, and not even bothering to add the Cedar Fair required trim brakes, seatbelts, headrests, seat deviders, and lap bars on Big Dipper! I think Cedar Fair bought the park seeing if it had any last hope for it, but it became quickly evident that it had outlived itself to that point.
-
Now quite honestly, do you SERIOUSLY think that kids and families will say to themselves over the summer, "Well, I'd LIKE to go to Kings Island, but they don't have Spongebob anymore, instead they have Snoopy....forget all of the great rides and shows and things to do there, the lack of Nick doesn't make it worth it." Seriously, kids don't care!!! I've seen tons of happy children and families at Cedar Point enjoying Snoopy. The fact that the rides aren't themed to an annoying yellow Sponge really doesn't make to much of a difference at all to them.

You did not make that clear AT ALL.. If it was personal say it, because in the post it made it sound because it was just cause it was at an amusement park. How am I supposed to know that anyway? No it's not immature and wrong. It's a valid question because not many people, if having the choice, choose to relive a day at an amusement park rather to something a little more deep. If you're going to have a fit of how I misunderstood you, make yourself a bit more clear the first time. ...Moving on. Geauga looked horrible to me. Badly maintained, cruddy staff, rides were often down, and was poorly landscaped. It is sad that it is no more, though. It's one thing to misunderstand something. It's quite another to say it's sad and insult me because you don't have a full stroy. I didn't give a full story because it's personal, off topic, and I wasn't expecting anyone to judge me because of it, as you did. Your posts are quite annoying me. It seems to me that you have no care for the way to behaive and become an upstanding member of this board, rather this is just a place for you to rant, complain, and start arguments with other members who have obviously gone through many more years of maturity then you seem to have. And when other members tell you to politely stop and think about how much of a child you're being, you take it as a personal attack and start to yell at senior members who actually know what they're talking about. Please, straighten up and fly right. I'm ready to block you.
-
Are YOU serious? I'm sorry but that's just very rude of you. There were a lot of things that happened on that day, a lot non-coaster related and personal, and for you to make assumptions and jabs at things like that is very immature and wrong of you. Your posts are really starting to annoy me.

SHOOT THE RAPIDS at Cedar Point
Beast1979 replied to firehawkboy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
After looking at it, I really hope that they add some stuff to the ride. The drops look great and the waterfall and tunnel look nice, but the rest of the ride looks uneventful and boring. Some decent thematic elements would be nicet along those ground level turns, not just a look at the trees. -
Here are my thoughts on the subject: I went to Geauga Lake in July of 2007. And quite honestly, if I was given the option of reliving one day of my life, this day could very well be it. I went there for the second half of the day with my cousins, and crowds were not to be found. Fantastic rides, friendly atmosphere, great location (Along the lake), and it had, in my opinion, something most parks lack. A little, what's the word....charm. It was really nice. That was the park I turned my cousins into coaster enthusiasts at, the park where I rode my first ever B&M Roller coaster, my first Miller ride, it was a truly wonderful park. I went back to Cleveland in September. My grandma showed me the paper. It was closed. I don't hold any vendettas over this. It wasn't anyone's intentional doing to ruin the park. From what I can understand, there were 2 things that led to it's demise. 1. The removal of Sea World Ohio. That was a major attraction in the Cleveland area from what I can hear, and it was a popular park. Removing it did, as locals have told me, drive some away. 2. Overloading the park. Before Six Flags took over, the park only had a handful of roller coasters, a lot of room, and plenty of potential. 5 years later, the park is competing with Cedar Point for roller coasters. To much, to soon. While it may cause attendance to shoot through the roof when they first added them, what do they think 6 years later, when there's still yet to be anything new, because Flag's is still paying off those rides? And then, Cedar Fair takes over. Well, you've just bought a park with an overlapping market with your flagship park, has small crowds, and not much left for expansion. What are you gonna do? What would you do? The park wasn't making money. It was much more lucrative to close the park and sell the assets then to keep it going. They didn't do it because they are evil villains with capes and a monotonous laugh who do this stuff for sh*ts and giggles. Because they are a business and Geauga Lake wasn't working. And then they kept the waterpark open. Uhm...what? "Hey everyone, we closed a timeless classic, one of your favorite passtimes, a wonderful park, but we still left the water park side open! It's kinda cool....it's got like, slides and stuff....Buy season passes and enjoy the 2.5 month summer of Northern Ohio at Wildwater Kingdom!" And then they obviously show no intention of keeping it going for long by basically adding nothing in 2008, 2009 or 2010.

And the dinosaurs lasted 120 million years....we've been on this Earth for roughly 10,000.
