Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

And in 1991 and 1993 we were excited about Adventure Express and Flight Deck....... Time is a funny thing....... -
The restraints on Vortex exist for the same reason you wear a seatbelt in a car. To protect you in case there's an accident. You could ride Vortex without any restraint at all and not fall out!

The park needs a museum!!!!!
-
Or if most of the ride ops on The Beast and your children know each other by their first names.....
-
A lot of memories in that video.... Can't wait to ride it again on the 17th of April. I know that Diamondback will be there, but, I know that I won't be able to do anything other than ride The Beast first. To do anything else would be like cheating on my wife (if I had one).....

I think I under rate the air time on Gemini (or Genimi, as the ride op called it last year) because I always ride it right after Magnum. But the last two little hills on DB look like great airtime opportunities, as long as the MCBR doesn't slow it down too much..... -

I have said this before, but I don't know if "fault" is the word I would use. GL, back in the day when I lived around Cleveland was a small family park that offered a relaxing atmosphere, not a lot of huge thrill rides, and a good time with family and friends. It was an alternative to the huge crowds, long, lines etc, that have always been present at CP. I often enjoyed an evening at GL after work in the summer much more than CP for that reason. Six Flags attempted to turn GL into a direct competitor of CP as opposed to a quiet alternative. And they failed. I don't know that "fault" describes what happened. Someone made a business judgment that seemed right to them at the time, but, in the end turned out badly. Sadly, businesses of all kinds succeed and fail every day in a free society. So, the cause of GL's demise is simply that we live in a capitalistic free country where people sometimes make incorrect decisions! Nothing more, nothing less.... -
KI is pretty east as far as the layout goes. The park is designed in a nice U shape with Nick Universe to the right as you enter and Action Zone to the left. My advice is to, of course, go during the week!! Start with Diamondback or The Beast (some of us who are old timers will always start and finish with The Beast.) Then head for Backlot Stunt Coaster, Vortex. Racer, Flight of Fear and Firehawk. (If you don't pass LaRosa's Pizza, you're going the wrong way!). Ride Adventure Express. It's better than Cedar Creek Mine Ride. Then head for Action Zone and ride Invertigo, Drop Tower, Delerium, Flight Deck, and Son of Beast. With regard to Son of Beast, ride it when it is cooler outside in the evening. And don't staple yourself in or hold on too tight or you will get your teeth shaken out of your skull. Just put your hands up, relax your body and enjoy the G forces!!!! Although many adults avoid the kids area, make sure to ride Fairly Odd Coaster, Avatar, and Wild Thornberry's. In addition take the opportunity to go up the Eiffel Tower!!!! And, no matter what, make sure to ride The Beast at night!!! Have fun.

At this time of year, you must be talking about a year round park, since the obvious reference, TTD, is not "operating" and won't be for several months.... LOL!! -
Yep!! That's a vacation day for me. Just like August 6 was last year when DB was announced. And for those who want to skip school. Don't!!! The coaster will be there for a very long time and if you go to school and wait a week or two to ride it for the first time, you will look back on 2009 in ten or twenty years when you have spouses and children, and that one or two week wait will be meaningless to you.
-
Yes, summer is about fun!!! You made my day too!!! Merry Christmas!
-
Glad they will enjoy it, there will be no age limit, this will be a blast. That's wonderful, see you all there!!!
-
Is there an age limit? Can I bring the kids? They will enjoy this event more than any of us older folk!!!
-
Nice post. Looking forward to seeing my chains float in front of my face during that drop.....

Me too. Had to buy light bulbs tonight after work and I was amazed at the people talking about snow and buying a month's supply of groceries for a predicted 2 inch snowfall... But, don't worry about DB. Only a 30 per cent chance of precipitation on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday are predicted to be in the 40s with no rain or snow. That's per Channel 9 in Cincy right now..... -
Back then it as a line that ran through all of the switchbacks and, at times, almost back to Antique Photo... With signs that told you it was a two hour wait from where you were, a tree where everyone stuck their gum, and a concession stand with real workers....... And a lake and flowing water in the mine effects, where there are still coins to this day..... And single bar restraints and air time on the second drop.....

I can't wait to wear shorts and sandals comfortably at 10 pm as we walk out of the park......

Thank you all. We actually went to the Acquariunm on Saturday and the game on Sunday. We got the tickets for the game free. (Got what we paid for there...) But we didn't go to the scuba Santa show. My kids feel that they are "too old" for Santa. They figured out the "truth" last year and now anything Santa-related is for younger children, in their view.

Well, instead of Christmas shopping, the kids and I decided to take our annual trip to the Newport Acquarium this weekend. For those of you who have children and have never been there, it is a very nice time with lots of beautiful photo ops. The City looked nice, even though it was cold.... They have a large whale sculpture in the lobby. Lots of fish.... http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj137/BavarianBeatle/100_0177.jpg[/i But other things as well. Like turtles, alligators, snakes and frogs I liked the sea anemones.... The jellyfish... The seahorses... And whatever these weird things are called... LOL!!! After looking at all of that, it was on to the Lorikeets. You can feed them nectar out of little cups. We had a lot of fun there ... At least until one of the birds stole David's cup and ran up a tree with it. And one of them bit me on the neck. LOL!!! But then it was on to the feature attraction.... The shark tank!!! We always spend a lot of time watching the sharks, shark rays, sea turtles, stingrays and other animals in that exhibit. They loved it. Then they got to pet some sharks. After that they got their gifts from the gift shop. Then we headed home. It was a very fun day. If you get the opportunity, I would recommend spending an afternoon there. Although it may look dangerous.... ...it really is a lot of fun and they pack a lot of really nice elements into a relatively small space. It's nothing like KI, but for a wintertime, off season trip, it's really pleasant. And the kids actually learn something as well. Thanks for reading, Michael P.S. We went to the Bengals game today. I had planned to include that in this TR, but after watching the game, I figured.... What's the point!!?!! LOL!!!

I figured you had better things to do like spend time with the family. I didn't want to start an argument with anyone (at least not today ). I spent Thanksgiving at my parents' house in Piqua, OH.. Being in Miami County, I naturally thought of you.... But seriously,...... Hope you had a happy thanksgiving, and I wish you a joyous Christmas sason!!!!! -
Wow!! You are a much braver man than I!! My kids always tell each other that the other is afraid of the rides at Chuck E Cheese.........
