I got to ride KCKC just once, I think, about 18 or 19 years ago. It was a neat ride going through the treetops, and, if I remember right, lasted for a good bit, too.

The one coaster looked kind of like DB, thought it might be a Cedar Fair park. Anyway, it was a neat accident! Thanks for the info.

I was actually just watching the video about the trucks, when I noticed some interesting "things" in the background...where is this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D0ehNPfLc0

Is that water along KCKC?

I have to wonder if the later opening day might have something to do with WindSeeker's construction. Still lots to do with that little project...

It sounds a lot like the difference between a record and a CD (or digital file). And, you know, records are still really popular with some people, and a lot of people still prefer their sound! I'm sure some enthusiasts in both areas feel like something is lost in the digital transformation.

This is a little math nerd post about WindSeeker's foundation. I got to thinking about WindSeeker's (and Drop Tower's for that matter) structure, and how important I would think it would be that the foundation would have to be extremely level. According to my calculations, for every .01" of slope on the foundation, the "tower" part of the ride would lean 3" (assuming the tower is perfectly straight). It seems like for something as tall and skinny as the towers on these rides, any lean would be disastrous. Of course, none of this says anything about when the wind blows on a perfectly straight structure. A 300 foot tower would seem to have a mind boggling amount of leverage. To sum up, that foundation is one piece of awesome engineering!

Nice article!

Who would have thought there would ever be a demand for $6 cups of Coke?

Is Amazon Falls the "exciting family ride" coming in 1988?

They were digging a trench all along the area towards the right side of the view earlier. Also, they were smoothing and, I think, laying rebar in the area under the tarp. Also, wooden forms were built all around the WindSeeker foundation.

Looks like a busy, snowy day at the WS worksite today... http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/fun/webcams/index.cfm Looks like the weather may be letting up next week...we'll probably get to see a lot of work get done!

Oh no...you might have just given them an idea...SoB themed seat foam...for sale right outside the $5 after-ride dryer...
-
I'd say $15 could buy a good amount of foam padding and a roll of duct tape...

Strange footprint in the snow on KI Facebook page.

I think they should just add some sort of small, Beast-like creature somewhere in the vicinity The Beast. Since the kid couldn't make it on his own, he had to come back and work for his old man! Case closed... -
At least it was a bit...isolated.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the restroom will end up being in a bit of a weird spot once WindSeeker is finished.

They don't make 'em like they used to!

Maybe the "depressing, abandoned food stand" will come back to life again!! -
Where was the Eiffel Tower going to go?

I looked in my old photo albums, but couldn't find any pics, but I'll try to describe it to the best of my memory... When you entered the queue, there were a few full-sized (I believe) NASCAR-sized racecars placed alongside the queue route. There were speakers playing racing sound effects as you walked through. When you got into the queues under the shelter, there were big screens that played a pre-show featuring Kyle Petty. It was in surround sound, and there was another car either suspended or on a platform in between the two sets of queues (again, the best of my memory). There were tons of theming. It was actually pretty exciting. For a time, there was a souvenir stand when you left the queues. I bought a hat from it after my first visit to DoT.

Absolutely amazing. It's so neat to connect some of the ideas that were incorporated into KI...that we still get to enjoy to this day.

I had forgotten about the old ticket booths. Great thread!!
