  1. With FOF having always been inside, shouldn't that ride last for decades? I would think that would cut down on wear and tear immensely.
  2. Its really hard to pick just one. Overall, it would have to be The Beast. I usually ride it first thing. Firehawk really proved to be fun ride. I love AE, just like the "feel" of it. I feel like I go back in time on The Racer. FOF is just plain fun. I even like BSSC really well. I've come to accept it as the "new" antique cars in my mind...I still like that area of the park. As for flats, it as to go to Viking Fury. Hard to imagine that they used to use that whole queue. At least its kind of novel to walk through. Plus it has real landscaping!
  3. Of course, if you want breakfast, Starbuck's is pretty much your only choice. Gotta have my coffee.
  4. I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, please delete if it is. I received an e-newsletter from KI that says admission to Halloween Haunt is free with a Gold Pass. Isn't this different from what was stated earlier?
  5. Wow, if you hadn't been to the park since '91, I bet that was a real stunner.
  6. Another reason I don't want them to take out Congo. It has a look to it that they just don't seem to do any more. A real wood walk way, they actually took the time to angle all the boards that hold up the handrail, and there's real (gasp!) landscaping around it.
  7. I couldn't have said it better than these 3. I love Oktoberfest. In the midst of the craziness of the park, I like to go in Festhaus, ride VF, and eat at the Biergarten (BBSS). It just has a neat vibe to it. I also didn't realize they changed the name of the railroad. I agree with Gordon Bombay on the train.
  8. I just posted something about this on another thread, but this sounds like a good place for it, too.. Maybe they really have a strategy. Maybe they're trying purposely to make the ride names generic so that people think of the whole park itself, rather than individual ride names. I think I remember posts awhile back about CF wanting to build their "brand".
  9. CWA has a Vortex too... I think the name for drop zone should be like Death Fall...and at least they didnt name IJ:ST to Car Ride Through an Unknown City. Given what happened this past season to another drop ride, I'm surprised Drop Zone wasn't named "Safety Tower".
  10. Unfortunately, all I know about KI before 1992 is through pictures and postcards. IF Cedar Fair takes the park in any direction even similar to the way it used to look, I would be ecstatic. Just don't want it to get worse.
  11. I'm confused. When you go to another park that is not a movie theme park, or a former movie theme park, do you still get the same "cheaped-out feel"? How many other amusement parks are former movie theme parks? The only other major amusement park I've been to was Cedar Point. And, yes, I thought that the atmosphere there was a bit plain in comparison to KI. I've always liked KI because its always seemed to be a classy place. I never did care for smaller amusement parks, or any place that had a "carnival" feel to it...In a nutshell, I'm not an amusement park person, but mainly a KI person. Like I said, sure, the rides are the same. I guess when you like a place so well, you just worry a bit if it seems to be taken in a direction that you're not sure about.
  12. These changes in ride names are seriously making me question if I want to go to KI this season. Before you start rolling your eyes, I understand that the rides will be exactly the same. However, it just makes me feel like the park is a more generic place than it was. Probably isn't rational, but it would be like if I went to McDonald's and they gave me a "Double Decker" (Big Mac), and I washed it down with a "Cola" (Coke). Is it the same food? Probably. However, it just gives you a cheaped-out feel.
  13. Maybe Kings Island can hire whoever made that video to do some advertising for them.
  14. How do you know that the Paramount names don't help revenues? And how do names of rides that have been in the park for upwards of 14 years not relate to Cedar Fair's business? I think its a big risk for any company to go through and change the names of some its biggest attractions.

    Vortex

It may hold you in a loop...but I'm pretty sure you'd be SOL if you had no restraint during the corkscrew on Vortex (It always makes me uncomfortable when it slams on the brakes right before it).
  16. I always enjoyed when the rides were themed to a movie. I actually did get a little caught up in the excitement of that. So, I guess, I'm going to miss that a little bit. I always had a little bit of the feeling that the ride was the part of something a little bigger, rather then just an amusement park ride in Cincinnati.
  17. Makes you wonder how Disney is able to keep crowds coming into their "classic" attractions.
  18. Start Crying Let me clarify. It was apparent that they used a cutting tourch where they could not unbolt it. The ride was not cut everywhere, only where it was a difficult place to deconstuct. Having never seen nor ridden The Bat I cannot say wether it deserves a mourning. Where does it say that was The Bat?
  19. As this discussion continues, I keep picturing a group of overzealous amusement park fans in night vision goggles combing those woods.
  20. ^I'm always exhausted after a day at KI, but that might be an interesting little drive sometime...
  21. Can you actually drive back to that area, and behind the park?
  22. Yes, "Flight Deck" is the one that bums me out. I don't think I'll ever be able to actually say "Hey, lets go ride Flight Deck"...
