kings dominion new coaster in development
Honestly: As much as I LOVE Voyage and Diamondback, and how they overtake Millie as far as ride experience (except for the fact that Millie's first drop is a gut wrenching hell that has yet to be topped by any coaster I've ridden, and has no trims or MCBR to slow it down or ruin it), Millie has a special place in my heart for many reasons. It always has and it always will, and that is why I get so angry when so-called enthusiasts start bashing it. So even if 305 turns out to be a better ride, it will never take Millie's place in my heart.. no coaster ever will!

That thing looks delicious. I will DEFINITELY be making at least one trip down to Kings Dominion next year.

KIC: What Happened?
I couldn't agree with you more. I have been trying to get that point across in several other threads.. I do not like what is happening to KIC. Not one bit.

Invertigo
The main reasons a coaster is torn down is: because it is a maintenance nightmare, they fall into disrepair, or it poses a danger to the riders.. not because they don't fit everyone's idea of a fun ride. If that was true, we could all kiss amusement parks goodbye, because every ride at Kings Island has its share of people who don't like it.

KIC: What Happened?
I have to raise my eyebrows at that, especially after the SoB threads. Again, forgive me if I'm crossing lines. David, you're not crossing any lines. You seem to be one of the few people posting in this topic who has an intelligent perspective about what is going on. IMO, it's welcomed and appreciated.. too many people here are just getting angry and typing without thinking first.

What is your favorite ride crew?
I love the DB crew! They always have so much fun with the riders, and are friendly! They score serious points with me. Outside of KI, Maverick's crew at CP are great. There is a girl with a pixie haircut (don't know her name) but she has had people busting a gut in hysterical laughter at some of the things she says on the mic. Magnum's and Millie's crew joke around and play games a lot too while on the mic. It's very entertaining. One of my worst peeves at a park is rude employees. It sticks in my mind for a very long time when someone who works at an amusement park is rude to me. The guest experience should be top priority.

The Son of Beast Discussion Thread
Yes.. and Raven at Holiday World, Blue Streak at Cedar Point, and yes, even Teddy Bear at Stricker's Grove. LOL I realized what I said and edited my post, but you beat me to it!

The Son of Beast Discussion Thread
I just don't think it was logical to build a wooden coaster of such an extreme height. I feel that SOB was built for record breaking purposes only, and not for comfort of its riders. SOB, as beautiful of a structure as it is, hurts to ride. Coasters can be great without reaching staggering heights (I realize how hypocritical this sounds, coming from me! ). A great example of this is Maverick at Cedar Point. The first hill is only 105 feet tall, yet it is a favorite of many.

Little Things You Notice
I noticed that the Diamondback air horns seem to be an "all clear" signal for the whole park when rides are down due to bad weather. When I went with my dad on Tuesday, DB shut down a little before 4 pm because a severe storm was rolling in. Hardly any rides were running for a few hours. About half of the park had cleared out and the storm was finally passing when Dad and I were on the Eiffel Tower. We were looking all around the park to see no coasters running, and hardly any rides running. Then, out of the blue, we heard the Diamondback air horns and saw the first train going up the hill. Moments later, trains started going up on Beast, Vortex, and Racer, as if following DB's lead.

I now understand the negative sentiment about KI's food service.
Every time I've gone to Stunt Crew Grill in Action Zone, my food has been made to cook, hot and fresh, and I get excellent customer service. ONE time, I got the hot dog meal and went to eat it.. the bun was hard as a rock. I took it up to one of the employees and politely showed her. She gasped, apologized to me repeatedly, and threw my entire plate in the trash. They remade ALL of my food fresh at no extra charge, apologizing the whole time, and gave me twice the fries I'd had in the first place. The cashier even apologized to me and it wasn't her fault. Now THAT is customer service.

Coaster Battle #3: Red Racer vs. Blue Racer vs. Blue Streak
My vote is for Blue Streak. It feels a little more rough than Racer on the airtime and on the drops. Ever since I rode Voyage at Holiday World, I've liked my woodies a LITTLE more violent.

Little Things You Notice
I have. When they first built them they would scroll up and down like that. Then it stopped working for some reason the past years. It seems like they fixed them all again. Just another little thing the maintenance team is doing to keep this park awesome! Keep it up! I noticed that when I was there Saturday.. I was like, WHAA??.. "THE SIGN IS MOVING!!" I got SO many weird looks..

Is it worth the price?
I've been to Kings Island 17 times this year, and Cedar Point 5 times (actually, 7 days!), and I ain't done yet! I cherish my platinum pass.

It's a Mid Summer's SCREAM!
I'm going to have to agree with Zach here. You're pretty much paying for half an hour of extra ERT. I pack food and drinks in a cooler so I don't pay park prices either. I've already been on The Beast walkback and they barely took us past the first hill. The sign shop sounds interesting, but not enough to want to pay to see it. And I always get last rides on DB at 10 anyway.. where are all the benefits of this event?

How many coasters have you ridden?
I'm a coaster pro at 46 coasters.. 18 of those were added this year. I've been on 33 steel and 13 wood at 6 amusement parks. w00t! I would have gone to more parks, but I've fallen madly in love with Holiday World and Cedar Point, and I try to get there as much as possible.

Cedar Point - Sunday 8/9 TR
I agree. I always say that a coaster doesn't have to be the tallest or the fastest to be great. I always get air on that thing, it's in my top 5 woodies. So many people walk right by Old Blue because it sits in Raptor's shadow.. it's sad.

Terpy's 20,000 Post
I'm almost 100% sure I saw Terp in line for Dragster on Cedar Point closing day last year. I don't know.. I just had a feeling it was him, but I'll never tell.

1st KI visit. what are the must rides, and which to ride as soon as the park opens.
AE is really only fun at night, IMO. I'm totally with DiamondbackLover on the ride list suggestions, except for Invertigo. Invertigo is an ear beater and will give you a horrendous headache.. so will Vortex. I am surprised no one has mentioned Racer.. it's a classic, fun woodie with some sweet airtime. My list for you would be Diamondback, Drop Tower, Racer, Flight of Fear, Backlot Stunt Coaster. Slingshot is pretty awesome if you ask me, kick your feet at the top and you can get the cage to spin like crazy. And you must get a blue ice cream cone.. that stuff is the shiz and it's practically a KI tradition. When are you going? We'll be more than happy to show you around the park.. us KICers can be a lot of fun!

Vortex: Lapbars?
Vortex's OTSRs are horrible. No matter where I ride, I always come off with a pounding headache.. that coaster has gotten too rough for my liking. Like I've said before, if I'm going to come off an Arrow coaster in pain, I'd MUCH rather ride Magnum XL-200.
