Cedar Point TR MUST READ!
74Gibson replied to Jasper's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
These marketing games are getting a bit annoying. As long as the rides continue to deliver though, I won't continue to whine! Whine (the verb), not to be confused with wine (the noun)... something Gibson will continue to do As for Maverick, I've only ridden front seat once but it was completely amazing and definitely my best ride yet! -
We should honor those lost and their families by always remembering the loss and by going about our normal lives.

Cedar Point 2010/2011
74Gibson replied to CincyMan98's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
and watching very carefully is exactly what they're hoping for Very clever folks who must enjoy it so! -
It sounds like an awesome event and I hope to go! I am sure it will be great group and a day full of fun and good humor.

I rode it Thursday and aside from bding down for abt 25 mins (during ERT...grumble) it was just as fast up the lift. One thing I noticed is that it definitely slowed less before the second launch whoch got me thinking how great it would be to launch without any slowing. My friend taught me the key to Maverick... ride it like a motorcycle. Grab the restraints and lean into where every banking turn puts you and you'll have a perfectly smooth ride with absolutely no discomfort.

Intresting CP Tweet
74Gibson replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Keep in mind this is Cedar Point. They like to raise the bar so if it is an Aquatrax... it'll be one hell of an Aquatrax! -
Cedar Fair is in no way obliged to disclose the specifics of their decision making process. They are trying to decide what to do. The ride is closed because of the allegations made by the woman, resulting in another investigation and most likely speculation (by CF) as to the feasability or conditions under which it will reopen. My wife and I stopped performing music and are constantly asked why by friends and fans. We tell them because we are too busy... Am I also obliged to tell them why we're so busy? NO!

Thanks for the great TR Angie! I'm making my second CP trip of the year on Thur. Last one was so crowded we just gave up on riding and enjoyed the park, some restaurants and shops in Sandusky and left early evening. It was a great day though.
-
I'm heading to CP on Thur. and I'll post here if I notice anything. I rode it early in the season and it seemed just as quick as last year.

I became and airtime addict the first time I rode Diamondback and it's kinda replaced the thrill level that first drops used to give me. So Millie having less airtime (not saying it is laking in design just desired effect) and bieng all about speed and height is a bit of a drawback. Oh that first hill though, the hills entering and leaving the island and all that speed. Ummmmmmmm! Diamond is everything I'm looking for in a coaster (but could be 50 or 60 feet higher and trimless). Just like Jackson said and the layout and use of the land are great. STILL A TIE. I've debating this a thousand times. Ask me tomorrow and Meverick will be in there to. (my favs get easy to rank after those 3)

I knew I saw him, Jackson that is. That FOF marathon at RW was great! We did 8 laps if I remember right. Were you with XGator? I was going to text you and Angie to see if either were there but I walked my old phone into a pool and havn't gotten my contacts transferred yet.

I never got around to posting a roll call for that day and I should've cause I ran into Kat late in the day (in line for DB of course). A lot of the crowd must have been in Boomerang Bay. Our final ride count was 31 and we spent a good 4 hours out of the park.

After a night of incredibly lucid dreaming, the alarm woke me up at 5:00 AM. I took a quick shower and headed off to pick up Justin my riding buddy. He brought along a blast from the past in Metallica's Master of Puppets… one of my favorite albums of all time! Hearing it again was so good that we missed a turn just past Neptune. We easily corrected and got stopped by this just before we got to 75. Later heading down 75 we got way too into Clutch's 1st album and missed 33 but took 71 and it will be our new route. Typical musicians... missing turns was our theme for the day We arrived at the park at 9:15. Here's a view from 71. A nice empty lot. We applied some sunscreen and heading in for Diamondback ERT. This random Thur. treated us so well. We got a ride on the first train of the day and a total of 7 rides during ERT. 2 consecutive re-rides on row 12 of green and after 15, on red another re-ride on green. I Love you Diamondback! We saw the GP rush the line and raced over to Flight of Fear. It was empty and we started n the front row. We barely fit J Hit the back row next… a 2 train wait for next to last seat and then a four or five car wait for back seat. Then it was off to Vortex in the 7th row. If I stay around that row I have a great ride experience but I'm 6' and Justin is 6'3"… The OTSRs hurt my shoulders and my legs feel like sardines in a can. The double flips were fantastic though! We were at 12 rides in 70 mins and lovin the day. The sky was beautiful and the weather was perfect. We hit BLSC twice and then headed for The Beast. I was in such a good mood the trims barely bothered me. Besides, I was fantasizing about the night ride that I knew would end our day. We wanted to ride Vortex again but it was so uncomfortable earlier we headed for Racer. Oh how I love The Racer. We started with red, of course and then Justin realized he had never ridden blue and I wasn't sure if I had. I know I rode Recar which I've read was on that side then but don't think I have ever been on the blue train. Justin had never ridden Adventure Express so I thought we should go. I usually find it boring and rough but this time I though it was pretty fun and quicker than I remembered. Goes to show how much expectations and mood change a ride. I must ride it at night! At this point we we're both pretty hungry so he headed out to our traditional lunch spot Ruby Tuesdays. They have a great salad bar and I filled up on that and Justin got the turkey minis combo. He hadn't had much sleep so we relaxed there for about 1.5 hrs and then went back to KI and napped in my car in until about 4:30. My Prius has proven to be about the perfect car. The seats go completely horizontal and you can even take out the head rests and then the front seats meet up with the rear. [/size] I'll post the evening report and more photos later, probably after Nigella's (my daughter) birthday party. It's her first and going to be quite an event!!!!!!!

Terpy, my pen is starting to give way to my PDA... I still almost always have one though. I've taken a camera twice and get too busy having fun to bother with taking pics. I have a few for a PTR I'm doing for thurs. but they're almost all DB shots. I saw some other good photo ops but didn't want to bother with it.

My personal favs are 2 and 16. I like being on the outside because it adds a bit to the open air feeling and gives a little extra lateral movement. I love the first drop in the back and agree with KI Man about the great airtime in rows 6 through 10.

With much higher mortality rates. I work closely with the agency that investigates childhood deaths in my area and a major cause is suffocation on crib blankets. Who would've thought!!!!!! Second story windows aren't required to have screens but it would've stopped my 16 mo. old neighbor girl from falling (the landlord had screens installed that day btw). She bounced a few times and survived but... Safety restrictions are good though often very annoying and it's hard to decide where to stop. Just sayin'
-
The Beast was my first roller coaster and I still love it... I get really annoyed witht he trims but I can deal with that. I rode it at night for the first time ever and it is absolutely amazing!
-
Why don't we just have a battle between projectile vomiting and uncontrollable Diarrhea? They're really not that bad. Meanstreak is just plain boring and I havn't ridden Texas Giant so I'll go with SOB.
-
I didn't even bother riding BLSC the 1st two times I visited since it opened thinking it would be gimicky and boring. So wrong! I absolutely love it. It's just fun and makes me feel like a kid again. Adventure Express is dated, aged, jerky and not very exciting.

EDIT: Sorry for the messed up quote and my laziness in fixing it. "Not to say that you are incorrect, but I haven't heard any confirmation that Kings Dominion is getting a gigacoaster. If you know something, please explain. Truly interested." Giga is written all over the shipping labels... You can search throught this thread to find pics http://www.kdfansite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=441. No way on the strata coaster. Kinzel has said TTD was the worst business decision ever made for CP. Look at what CF has built since. Look for more hyoers and gigas I say. I also say hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

No and No. I've ridden it once and didn't care for it personally but it is an amazing accomplishment which holds records and is well liked by many. Removing it would be costly and SBNO... sorry standing but not operating is very painful for guests who like the ride and would chip away at over all guest satisfaction. My guess is they will leave it down awhile to allow for overly thorough inspections and possible modifications and a good faith effort to show that they are doing all they can to ensure rider safety. Then voila, I'll be riding it again to see if I like it any better.

A good invert would be nice and would really round out KI's variety. Since Raptor is still in my top 5 I'd have to vote for B&M. I'd love to see a Maverick type ride or a wing rider. Fast coasters that hug the ground are great and I love how Mav has those quick airtime hills. Other than that I would just ask that they continue to improve the rides they have. I really think they need to make the trims less pervasive and noticeable. (insert hoorah from dare-to-fly)

It can be said that kids do not reveive appropriate discilpline and that's why they disrespect and misbehave but it doesn't change the immediate situation any. KI has these people attending and they are responsible for maintaining order in their park. Yes kids should behave better but if they don't someone has to do something. It is un unfair and unfortunate cost of operation for amusement parks. I agree with SOB_TOM. We and the GP should do something about it, unfortunately many are scared and you can't blame them. CF's responsibility is to help us feel safe reporting line jumping and trust that action will be taken and we will be protected from retribution. I am not afraid of a physical confrontation (though I avoid them at all costs) and I'm certainly not the only one. Like Terpy said, unless they address this it's only a matter of time before a fight breaks out and CF has a multimillion dollar settlement. Coaster Xtreme, great idea calling the main number. I'm programming the numbers after I post. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolute WORST park-going experience of my life!
74Gibson replied to IBEW_Sparky's topic in Trip Reports
I found dad's paddle once and threw it in a corn field . He was really not happy the next time I earned a couple swats but I thought it was great (is that masochism?). At least in IN, paddling in schools is most certainly still legal. I've seen the law as we deabated it in a grad class last summer. The decision to paddle is left up to the discretion of the individual school but most have stopped. A little over 2 years ago, I provided behavioral services in a school that paddled... Their director of special services put an end to it a little over a year ago. I don't personally know of any other schools that still do. Sparky, sorry you had a bad experience. If I had the same day I would have been upset but still would've enjoyed the reat of my day. I typically try to ignore little things that bother me and only act on bigger concerns. KI (or CF's management of KI) seems to have a similar mentality and is missing the point that line jumping is becoming a big concern. In a CP blog, I read about a fight that started from someone confronting a line jumper at CP. This is going to happen if CF doesn't crack down. I say something whenever I see someone line jumping and am not afraid of needing to defend myself. I kinda wonder how long it will be before someone tries to get physical with me. 12 injured in brawl at Kings Island not a good headline for PR.
