SFA Fright Fest Brawl
Tanna replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm not going to lie, after an altercation in KI's parking lot at closing time one night, I get out before it gets too dark. I don't want a repeat of that; and these were adults that tried to confront us. It's not much price-wise, but my second nosh gets skipped from my park experience. Looking over past posts, there's been rowdiness at KI, too, so it's not just isolated to one park. Many of the comments on the story remarked on the babysitting service that their park has become, and people wanting an 18 and over rule applied to the Six Flags Halloween. Just because someone's eighteen doesn't mean they are going to have any sense. It's a security issue. -
That sounds like a boss trip. The third reason you stated is exactly why I love my season pass; I can only go for a few hours before I feel like someone cut my strings, and I get tired. I can't abide shoving the whole park into one day.

Thanks. I'd read something about limitations to one night on the board, but of course, only remembered reading after I agreed to both outings. You cleared things up.
-
Thank you. I was in a bit of a bind, I talked to both groups this summer and arranged to go to the Haunt, and didn't about pass limitations. So if I renew this year's (2014) pass, I'll be allowed more than one visit next year?

I have two sets of friends wanting to go to Haunt on two different weekends; can I still go to Haunt more than once on my gold pass?

Busch Gardens does away with severed head display

On a television show recently, they cut the scene of someone being decapitated. I don't recall it being done with Daniel Pearl, but it could also have to do with ISIS still having hostages, and the desire not to possibly taunt the families of those still in captivity. I love horror movies, and am so used to things such as cinema decapitation, I didn't think of it until it was mentioned that said TV show cut a beheading scene. And the thing to be beheaded was a robot. -
WCPO Story - KI may have violated Federal Law regarding disabilities
Tanna replied to disco2000's topic in Kings Island
Exactly. These ride operators are, for the most part, teenagers working minimum wage (perhaps slightly more, but not much) as a means to have a little extra cash in the summer. These aren't people who are trained in these complex issues. These are not decisions that ride operators should need to make. I think the best approach is to have very thorough and detailed guidelines on who can ride and who can't, with a policy of when in doubt, they don't ride until a supervisor or higher park official gives the OK. If someone has to tell a young handicapped child that he can't ride this ride, it will be upsetting for sure. Dealing with their parents may be even more so. But ultimately, worst case scenario, such dealings might ruin the employee's day. I'd be willing to be there are members of the 2011 Ride of Steel crew that are still haunted to this day by the memory of what happened. It may not even have been their fault in the least. But humans are weird like that. If we're involved in a situation like that any way, it's going to haunt even the toughest of us for the rest of our lives. These decisions need to be reserved for professionals who understand the forces of the ride, any laws regulating who can ride, manufacturer guidelines, etc. If someone has a good grasp on the situation, they are less likely to make a bad decision, and when the time comes that someone must be turned away, they will have the knowledge to convey WHY they had to do what they had to do. And personally, I think that's way too much for a ride operator, who, as you said, is a teen just making summer money. The problem with asking persons with disabilities to defer to a professional staff is that they would have to voluntarily consult the professionals, they cannot be escorted. My Irish mind thinks, "What they don't know won't kill me." and I would bypass the consultation and try to get on rides. It would backfire if something awful were to happen, but as I would be thinking with my Irish Mind, nothing bad could ever happen to ME. I'll just hope the bad away. That guy on the New England Superman ride tried several times before he was allowed to board the roller coaster; it was the one time that he succeeded that ended in his demise. He knew there were regulations, but he kept pushing it. -
I totally love this pattern. I mostly knit socks because the are portable, I can fit my knitting in a pocket of my KI pants - and I'm knitting socks in ride colors, but this pattern absolutely takes the Theme Park Knit cake!

"The Cincinnati Kids" is on Hallmark Channel right now
Tanna replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Well, they had to bulk out a thin plot, and it also shows lots of the park. the park in the episode looks as big as the park is today, thanks to creative camera work. I'm watching detective shows from the seventies on Netflix, it's chock full of continuity mistakes- shows in the seventies were expected a first run and summer rerun, not to be viewed over and over again on a nonexistent internet. -

As soon as I began to watch the video, I immediately thought of the veteran who died on the Superman roller coaster. If I were a ride operator, I would think the same thing. We can't always get what we want, too bad, but it's true. I wouldn't want to be the one to carry with me to my grave the fact that I killed someone by 'being nice" and letting them on a ride where they might be ejected from. Too bad the park has to deal with this. I'll never climb Everest, due to medical issues. I'm not going to sue the mountain down to sea level. -
A guy that I knew that worked at LeSourdesville said it had to do with where you hit, not how hard; it was a leverage thing- (This guy later became Franklin Ohio's famous "Mr. Frosty".) I don't know how it works now that it's become digitized, but that's how the old one worked.

Even though I had a problem with Paramount pushing Tom Cruise on me, I've never had a problem with the sponsorship ads in Kings Island. A lot of posters are citing campaigns in the past that I grew up with. As long as they don't get Tom Cruisey with it, I'm fine. I thought the Kraft Macaroni ad was cool. I'd like for the sponsors to be innovative like that, but a lot of times, that's not possible.

The Right Height moment is a keeper for one's whole life, both for you and her. I met a little guy in Planet Snoopy on Opening Day, he was ready for the big rides, but his height wasn't. I told him I would probably see him in the Banshee line in August. He was just thatshort of the measure, but his mom wanted to play it safe. The night rides on an outside seat are grand, the ride changes color.

Refillable Water Stations to be added to Kings Island in 2015
Tanna replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I'm forwarding this address. I've been looking for one of those old lady "Collapsible cups" they tote around to take all their pills with, to be able to get a drink at the water fountains in the park without bother an employee. -

SeaWorld Misses Targets, Stock Plummets
Tanna replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It was about the Trickster character. The Native American Trickster is often depicted as a rabbit, and Bugs Bunny did a lot of the same things that are in the Rabbit Trickster stories. I was positive that the WB animators were taking fro these stories, but found out otherwise, through the help of the now director of Animation Resources in Los Angelos. I guess cross dressing rabbit humor is universal. I did learn more from the animators than I did from the professors and doctors at the university. -

I have a degree in Anthropology. We had to write papers in college, about theories, and had to back them by trying to disprove them. My senior paper was "I Learned More From Bugs Bunny Than I Ever Did from You." -

My professors were punks. I was always told to try to disprove my theories, not ignore what disproves my theory. I don't know if I'd want a show like Believe, but yes, I'd like to see the whales do what they do in nature, and many times, they execute that behavior due to a trainers giving signals. There's no reason for them to do those behaviors otherwise. I saw the film Blackfish twice, because I didn't get the prescribed message, I got the "wow, that's really a great looking park" message. The second time, I watched it because I would stop it, research what was being said, then start it again. There are students out there that strive for their own footage. They actually stand up from the computer chair, strap on a camera, and go out there and work for it, same as the photographers and video artists that got out and tape scenes to present in their documentaries. There are people here that present me with great photos, I'm not going to 'save as' and present them as mine, no matter how many I paste together in a sequence. I think it truly is unfair and unethical, despite You Tube contracts, for a person to sit in the AC, cool their jets and copy and paste other people's work from the computer, and then call it 'their' film. The opening of the film was the worst taste for me, the 911 call compiled with the footage of a trainer doing a stunt. I don't think a good documentary should rely on bait and switch stunts. -
I thought there were ads at KI for a while now. Like purdude86, I don't mind them if they don't mess up a ride.revenue is revenue.

SeaWorld Misses Targets, Stock Plummets
Tanna replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I had difficulty appreciating the quality of the film due to the many clips that came from outlets like You Tube. If you look, it's clip-interview-clip-interview, etc.. As a documentary, it's not truly informative, and it's not even up to par with Discovery channel. It's just inflammatory and appeals to head nodders. Why would I look further into the matter if it were truly informative? It would have answered all my questions if it were. So much clipping that a dark haired girl being interviewed about riding a whale was overlaid by a video willowy blonde riding the whale. So many clips straight from the park, it mesmerized me into looking into going to the park. I do agree that the PR department should have looked sharp as soon as the film hit. I think they should hit back with a positive film. Yes, it would look like a Public Relations stunt. They should relate to the public what's going on with their programs that are helping animals. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Seaworld the reason we cut up our six pack rings, so animals don't get hurt and trapped? If I recall correctly, they are the organization that brought this to our attention. -
Wow!. That looks exciting. I didn't know it existed, but the Mister recalls a pendulum that moved due to the movement of the Earth, or at least, that's what he recalls.
-
I feel envy that now, when I moved too far away from the park to balance the job money, they are hiring litter gitters of all ages. I could do with a job like that now.

Worlds of Fun's Great American Train Robbery

When Kings Island had this, we had to ride the train every time we went to the park. I love these shows. I'd like to see its' return, though it is highly unlikely. -

The Devil now wears a parka, Cher and I agree on something. The worst people for the longterm care of animals, in her opinion, would be PETA. It's funny how people respond to the whole whale issue.
