  1. If I'm correct, The Beast is still the longest coaster in America, wooden or not.
  2. I'll be the one with the different opinion here: My family (including me) loves Toyota. We've owned 7 Toyotas (my immediate family, as well as my uncle) in the past 20 years. Not had a problem with a single one. And every one of these cars reached 275,000 miles (at least) before we eventually bargained to get a newer car. You won't see me driving a Prius, but I'll take a Corrolla, Camry, or Highlander over a Cavalier, Malibu, or Trailblazer any day. Great reliability, cheap price... If it's a daily driver I'll go ahead and sacrifice the innovative styling.
  3. I personally don't mind the color, but it's great to see that it's getting a fresh coat of paint. I mean, who cares if it's grey/silver? It's called the JET coaster! Silver is a good choice.
  4. I haven't ridden Mantis very many times and typically avoid it. Stand up coasters have long lines and (imo) aren't worth the wait. Mantis's loop is cool, though.
  5. Rules are rules, and rules are posted before you enter the park. If you don't follow these rules, of course they are going to tell you. If something goes wrong, the park could be held accountable if they DIDN'T tell a guest "No, I'm sorry but you can't do that." There's a reason these rules are there, and there's a reason they enforce them. As for Cedar Fair, I think they've cleaned up the park very well so far, and I like the way that they've delt with the park a section at a time. Rivertown looks great, as does Planet Snoopy. I'm really looking forward to next year to see what Coney Mall will look like. They're improving on our flats, they've given us a signature steel coaster, and they've improved on ride capacity. The landscaping looks great, the park's been clean, ride maintenance seems to be good on most of the more popular rides, and they seem to know what they're doing when training their employees. Day to day operations in the park are top-notch, and I think that the park is heading in the right direction.
  6. +1 less thing that people can complain about. Hopefully The Racer is next on the list.
  7. I feel the rattle in Diamondback too, especially at the bottom of the first drop. I feel it on all of the outside seats and the inside seats near the back, but in the front the ride is glass smooth with absolutely no bumps at all. The front 3 or 4 rows are the best seats on the ride, but the very front is the place to be. I wouldn't be surprised to see The Racer get painted. They should, considering that they are redoing that entire area. They seem to be going through the park section by section... one season it's Rivertown, the next it's Planet Snoopy, next season it will be Coney Mall. That makes me wonder what will be in store for 2012? Maybe they'll touch up Action Zone? Maybe X-Base will get it's own area status? As for smoothing out The Vortex? It won't happen. If they do anything, it will be with the trains. Any problems with the track will stay like that permanently. Do I think that Vortex is rough? Even in 5-1? Let's just say that the Corkscrew at Cedar Point wasn't at all as rough as I remember, and that probably had something to do with all The Vortex riding I've done this season. 5-1 is the best seat on the train, but it's pretty ridiculous that you have to sit in one seat to get a good ride.
  8. Imho it's pretty sad that a new coaster has required so many changes in its first year of life. New restraints, addition of a trim, and now this? Sounds a heck of a lot more extreme than the removal of the section of track on Maverick. Something tells me we won't be seeing very many Intamin additions at many Cedar Fair parks in the future...
  9. I think this will be a good location for Ocean Motion. It didn't really get any riders where it was at. It wouldn't surprise me if almost all of the people who rode it were resort guest from Hotel Breakers that used that gate to get in. You just couldn't see it that well.
  10. Last minute WindSeeker addition? Would not surprise me at all.
  11. I agree 100%. It's good to see that the company is turning around, but it's going to take more if the full potential of the parks are to be met.
  12. Who said that they haven't come up with the fate of it's own SBNO coaster? Not to mention the fact that the fate of a multi-million dollar coaster and any future project involving said coaster is a much bigger decision to make.
  13. I really like the last two pictures with the leaves. Very pretty.
  14. I've said it before and I'll say it again, considering that this year was supposed to be pretty uneventful, it's been a pretty good one. This was my first year with a season pass, and it was great to see all of the things happening around the park week after week. Looking forward to WindSeeker next year (both at Cedar Point and Kings Island) I hope that next year will be as good as this one was.
  15. Probably a random guess or a rumor. Possibly one that the employee read here.
  16. I've got a feeling that this offseason is going to go by fast. So many things to look forward to this spring, so little to look forward to this winter.
  17. Once this season we left after 15 minutes. We figured it would rain so we only rode Diamondback and The Beast. After it started sprinkling they shut down the rides. We didn't see any point in staying so we left. I like days with a 30% chance of rain. Those days usually bring overcast, but rarely bring crowds or rain. I like overcast days at the park.
  18. I've heard good things about Montu, but for now I have to answer that Raptor is my favorite. I'll take Raptor over Diamondback (unless we're comparing it to a front row ride on Diamondback). Raptor, front row, early in the morning... I'm a happy person.
  19. Be careful, this is Cedar Fair we are talking about....If they 'improve' Kings Island's food the way they 'improved' Cedar Point's pizza (this year), I shall never, ever eat at Kings Island again. Cedar Point had wonderful pizza, especially at Chuckwagon, then they 'improved' it. It's wretched, and that's being kind. With the exception of LaRosa's, Rivertown Depot, and Outer Hanks, there's not much more "improving" Cedar Fair can do around the place. I'd almost rather see them experiment than just pretend like the current situation is alright. I personally know of many people who aren't visiting the park anymore because of the outrageous prices of food. They'd rather take the longer drive and visit Holiday World where there's no pressure to leave the park and come back. They WANT to spend their whole day in the park, but they can't because there's no affording it. I'd also like to point out that a large chunk of the people who visit Kings Island are passholders. Getting together a GOOD set of food discounts on Gold Passes would not only make people want to buy a pass even more, but would encourage those who visit often to spend money. I don't know about everybody else, but I've visited 5 or 6 times this season and not bought anything. Our car took up a parking space, we rode the rides, and used everything as a normal guest would, but we didn't spend any money. If there was a good set of discounts available with my pass, I would have spent some extra nickels at the park this summer. How about a 15% discount for any food purchase over 10 dollars? I'd eat in the park a lot more often if there were more deals like that. Encourage people to buy a pass, then encourage people with that pass to spend money. Cedar Fair has 50% of that done. Whenever we visit, we bring money. We usually don't spend any of that money at the park, but we take it elsewhere and spend it. We'd be more than happy to spend it at Kings Island, but we did very little so this past summer. Not really a direct reply to you Terpy, more of an extension of what I already said.
  20. In my opinion, Kings Island doesn't need a new restaurant, they need improvements of the ones that are already there. We have enough food options at the park, but improving the quality of the food and improving the prices are what the park needs, especially when the general public is starting to realize that a day at Kings Island could cost a person well over 100 bucks if they don't watch out. And as far as I'm concerned, Outer Hanks is the best restaurant at the park in terms of food quality (the fish taste great!), but it could use some bigger portions. I still can't believe that they actually served slaw out of a little, plastic, sauce container. I haven't eaten at the Rivertown Junction, but now I wish I had. It seems like the best deal at the park. I'd like to see improvement in the food department starting in 2011. If this is how Cedar Fair plans on making their money, then some major adjustment needs to be made. They need to lower food prices, dramatically lower drink prices, and create a list of Gold Pass benefits that can actually be used by the average person. Until something happens, I won't be spending any money for food next year. Food prices come in every conversation I have about Kings Island. Even the people that only visit once a year, the amount of money that they spent on a small meal comes up in conversation. EDIT: 400th post!
  21. I don't know about Six Flags as a whole, but I'd think this should very much increase attendance in Magic Mountain. Keep in mind that Los Angeles is an extremely touristy area. As long as Magic Mountain can keep this record, they will have a much easier time convincing people to visit Magic Mountain rather than Disneyland, Knott's, Universal, etc. Since Cedar Point does not have any nearby competition, it really doesn't help them very much... Magic Mountain will see an increase in attendance, but it won't be because people don't want to visit Diseny. Remember that that's a completely different market of people. And I'd have to disagree about Cedar Point's records not helping its popularity. Just because there aren't any nearby parks doesn't mean that it wouldn't make a difference. Remember, the majority of the people who visit Cedar Point are not locals, but people who have traveled there from all over the country and even from all over the world. Next year, I could see Cedar Point advertising to death that they are the "Best Amusment Park in the World" and that they have the "Number 1 Steel Coaster in the World".
  22. This is mainly a response to the Op, as I haven't read the 9 pages of replies: You are allowed to have your opinions, you are allowed to have preferences, and you are allowed to choose where you spend your money at. Halloween Haunt is different than a normal operating day at KI. It's directed to a different audience. The rides are there alongside the haunts. I went to my first Haunt last Friday, and I liked it. Everyone else that was there seemed to enjoy themselves. It's a Halloween festival, and that's why the decorations are there. It's the theme of the holiday.
  23. Both parks have a lot of variation, maybe Magic Mountain more so than Cedar Point. I'd still take Cedar Point's line-up. I think both parks could use some more woodies in their collection, though.
  24. Cedar Fair can't be too happy about this... Although I think a lot of us saw it coming...
  25. Me and my dad have been talking about heading down to HH this year, so we decided to hit up Kings Island Friday night, praying that it would be less crowded then than on Saturday. We got there at about 8. My only goal for the evening was to ride The Beast at night. I've been reading about it for years, and I wanted to finally get the chance to do it (especially since it would be my 30th ride on it, 27th this season). We headed straight for The Beast. After seeing that the wait was marked as 45 minutes, we went ahead and got comfortable. Honestly, I think we waited 20 minutes. We went for the front car and got in the second seat. After the spiel we were out of the station and up the lift hill. At the top of the lift hill are two very bright lights, and you can't see anything beyond them. The funny thing about this ride was the fact that the trim brakes were hardly noticeable. Down the first hill, I didn't feel the usual "pull" that's always there. I didn't notice the trims that are after the first left hand turn, and the trims down the second lift hill didn't grab very much. The only braking I noticed was the brake shed, and even it seemed mild. It didn't slam me forward in my seat like it normally does. The train seemed to push right through it as the brakes caught it very slightly. The second tunnel, which normally feels like a slow crawl, was taken very quickly, which made for some very fast turns until the second lift hill. If you haven't ridden The Beast at night then I'm going to say that it is something you have to do. The train felt as if it was traveling 3 times the speed that it normally does. Again, I don't know if this is just an effect because of how dark it was, or if there's actually a reason it went faster. Not only is the speed better, but the entire ride is a better experience. The tunnels are pitch black, and everywhere else you can only see about 25 feet in front of the train, nothing else. As for the Helix? I don't even think words can describe how fast it felt. Again, the trims weren't noticeable. The pitch-blackness of the tunnels and the speed of the train made for a great experience. Definately a lot better than it is during the day. A completely different breed of ride, and one that I have no problem giving a 10/10. Heck, I'd still give it a 10/10 if the ride ended at the second lift. Words can't even describe how great the ride was. Both me and my dad agreed that it was the best single ride we've ever had on any coaster, ever. The rest of the park looked good. I liked the amount of fog that they pumped out. We almost got lost in Oktoberfest! I can't even imagine what it would have been like if we didn't know where we were going. We stopped at the Half Pint Brawlers. Honestly, this wasn't that bad. It was no different that typical WWE wrestling. Obvious stuntwork (although good stuntwork!) and pretty entertaining. We only saw about 20 minutes of it, but it was a lot of fun.
