Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?

Too bad that they didn't win the PepsiCo thing, but it's good to know that they're moving along okay. -
Naked Roller Coaster Record Smashed
Pillsberry123 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I don't know what video you were watching, but there were plenty of women participating. A few were even good looking. Oops, I was looking at a different page and the pictures shown were mostly men. £22,000 is a lot, so it's cool that this record was for a good cause. -
Yeah that might be true but that's not the point I was making. You said Intamins where expensive and I was pointing out that they are actually cheaper for the type of ride(tallest,fastest,etc..) that CP wanted. And you're right by saying that. Diamondback costs $22,000,000 and Millennium Force costs marginally more, but I think most can agree that the days of record breaking rides are on hold at this point. Now it's all about value.
-
Wow! Great pictures! I never would have noticed that they were taken from a phone. Ohio State Fair looks like it has a larger ride selection than Indiana State Fair, but I haven't been in a few years so I can't really get an up to date comparison.
-
From what I've heard that's not true at all. Cedar Point goes to B&M, Intamin, and whoever else and says we want a 300' tall coaster what do you have and how much does it cost. Millennium Force is an Intamin and not a B&M basically for one reason, it was cheaper. The price tag on Intamin coaster specifically isn't through the roof, the price tag on 300', 400', coasters with both a lift hill and lsm launches are expensive no matter who builds them. Compare several companies they could work with other than B&M or Intamin... Geauga Lake's Thunderhawk was $10,000,000, The Voyage was $8,500,000, and The Prowler was $8,000,000. Compared to 4 coasters that costs more than $20,000,000 a piece, these alternatives seem much more light on company budget...

Edit: see a later post of mine -
And to think I read the PointBuzz thread and saw that he had gotten cookies, thinking that everyone on the thread was having a marathon of sarcasm.

At Dorney Park Snoopy was given a new area for next year... EDIT: I have said what I have said, but 2 of the coasters in my top 5 are Intamin. I enjoy them as well.

I'm not one to trust Dick Kinzel either, but I think what he said about not including Intamin in their new project had a lot of truth to it. Putting his words aside, we were all expecting it sooner or later with the late opening of Maverick and STR as well as the poor reliability of the Intamin launch coasters found around the park, especially the tall red one in the middle of the park that Kinzel has called the "worst investment he's ever made". EDIT: As for the $90 Million Dollar that Cedar Fair is spending for next year, I think we can expect something interesting to some degree aside from the Planet Snoopys.

Good TR! Cool to hear that you got all those rides in what would normally be considered a short time. Did you notice any major difference with Delirium or was it just me?
-
Kinzel's already said that the new ride won't be built by Intamin. I assume it's because they've had enough problems with Intamin in the past, and the price tag on their coasters is always through the roof. I wonder why the announcement hasn't reached the internet yet...

I don't think me or my dad have stayed at a park past 3 o'clock for years with the exception of the times that we've visited after 5.

CBS Early Morning 5 best coasters in US
Pillsberry123 replied to DaveStroem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes, it really is sad that people believe whatever they hear. We took a college-day trip at my high school, and a computer animation (or something along those lines) professor showed us the animated video of Diamondback as an example of something that we would be able to do with that sort of education, except he randomly stated a "fact" that Diamondback is the tallest roller coaster in the world. Of course I didn't say anything, but I could hardly stop myself from correcting him... There are still a few people at my school who can't wrap their heads around the fact that there could possibly be a roller coaster taller than Diamondback out there somewhere. - Pillsberry, who has his own reasons for visiting forums with people who actually know what they are talking about, even if I may make a mistake or two here or there. -
Not really any different, but seeing it in real life shows how obvious it is that something is going on. So in other words, if you have any doubts that something is going on, go and check it out for yourself. I feel like I should have gotten closer to the station, but we were leaving just as I thought about going up in the tower and checking it out from there.

CBS Early Morning 5 best coasters in US
Pillsberry123 replied to DaveStroem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think that the person who made this list looked at the new rides for 2009 and 2010, as 4 of the 5 on the list were built recently. Then of course they had to add in Kingda Ka. After all, it's the tallest coaster! It must be in the top 5! Also, all the coasters in the top 5 are steel. No Magnum Xl200, no Beast, no Cyclone, not even Voyage (which all lists seem to include now)... -
We got there at about 9 o'clock for ERT. We were expecting it to be a crowded day so we made plans for lunch at about noon, meaning we would leave at 11:30. We got in at 9, which was a little strange because it felt like 75% of the people there were not passholders. Perhaps passholders stayed away knowing that it would be crowded? After getting past all the angry people with regular tickets wondering why they couldn't get in for ERT (sigh) we got our Diamondback ride in. We jumped in the very back seat (walk on). I still prefer the front, as the back seem so much bumpier. I haven't been riding as much, so I hope that it isn't getting rough all over. We headed back to The Beast at about 9:10. Obviously there wasn't anyone there, and we were welcomed to the second train of the day by the friendly crew. We rode 5 times during ERT, joking with the crew the entire time. We went over to the Delirium to get a ride, and it has improved. I was impressed. We went on up to Coney Mall and got a front row seat on The Racer. I realized that we haven't tried any of the flats in Coney Mall this year (except for Dodgems) so we rode Monster and Shake Rattle and Roll. Our last coaster of the day was on Vortex. 5-1 had a 4 train wait (could the GP be catching on?) so we walked on 4-2. Ouch. We ended our day with a trip up the Eiffel Tower. There is certainly something up with the clearing behind SOB. As we left we saw a swarm of people coming over from GWL, the parking lot was filling up, and the backup on the Interstate was crazy. Freedom concert or August Saturday? Maybe a bit of both...

I think we all just learned one of Terpy's pet peeves. I myself haven't visited Six Flags Great America, so I can't speak from any experience. Maybe next year will give me the chance to enjoy it, unless we do an East coast trip. In that case I'll have to visit a certain park in New Jersey.

That sounds like a good plan to me. You'll notice that people tend to each lunch right around one and head to the water park right after. You're pulling a smart move by getting the water park out of the way a little bit earlier and doing a lot of the dry park after. We couldn't believe last year when we visited. Around 3 o'clock the waterpark looked unbelievably packed, and we saw this while we were in an empty Legend train... -
Great looking skyride! When we do our East Coast vacation next year I think this is going to be a stop, even if it's just to ride the coasters and the skyride. Great photos again!

Gary Coleman to hit 3,000 rides on Diamondback tomorrow
Pillsberry123 replied to Kirk Sheppard's topic in Kings Island
I don't know where I stand on it. Do I have a problem with it? No. Do I understand someone asking if he has a job? Yes. Either way, if he has a job (or if he's retired) I don't see what the problem is. It's a hobby, and going to an amusement park has to be better than sitting on the couch watching TV. Congratulations on the 3000 rides, as I would have lost count around 75, and if I didn't keep track in my signature I would have probably lost count by now... -
Amen to that. For me the only question that was easy for me to answer in the poll was the "signature wood coaster", and for me the choice would obviously be The Beast. The Voyage is fun in places, but it's way too drawn out to be a great coaster imo. The airtime on the first 4 hills is fun. The triple-down is fun. The rest of the ride is not. The non-stop speed takes too much of a toll on the rider, and I'd much rather ride the Raven... I personally can't wait for the Timberliners to come and smooth the ride out.
-
Agreed. Middle row of the car or the very front seat. Anywhere else is rough. Still rideable, but rough. 4-2 or 5-2 are the money seats on The Beast. The only seat that The Beast is impossible to ride in is the very back row. IMO How long was the line when you saw them assigning seats? If it was 60+ minutes I understand, but any shorter then that's pretty ridiculous.

The Voyage is glass smooth in some parts and rough as heck in others. The first 3 hills are as smooth as glass, the turnaround is bumpy, the triple-down is smooth, the trip back to the station is rough, and the final twist around the station is rough. Riding up front shouldn't be a problem if he could handle The Beast. However, if The Beast is a problem then I don't picture the Voyage being much better. If you like waterparks then you may want to do one day at the dry park and one at the water. If you are only visiting the dry side one full day is enough to do everything, and if you just go to ride coasters then you should get at least 10-20 rides on each of the coasters in a full day.
