SFStL Announcement Thursday
Pillsberry123 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow, these things are popping up everywhere. -
Great Adventure to add new roller coaster
Pillsberry123 replied to pkiboy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm going to doubt that this isn't Chang. 121 foot tall loop, dive loop, and inclined loop are identical to Chang. Not to mention the 154 foot tall height and 63 mph speed. Maybe they're saving the fact that this is a stand-up until they start advertising on a bigger level. -
Cedar point named best amusement park

They won by a landslide as they do every year. Cool to see Millennium Force back on top. -
Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, Now What?
Pillsberry123 replied to PREMiERdrum's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I hope to head out to Kennywood next year and ride Jack Rabbit and The Racer. Big Dipper really was a fantastic ride, even if I didn't know the history behind it the time I rode it. -
Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, Now What?
Pillsberry123 replied to PREMiERdrum's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I saw this coming, but it still stinks that it's actually happening. Such a great, classic ride. -
Amen, Vortex is a rough ride, even in 5-1. The other seats are rough all around, 5-1 is rough in the turns and the boomerang. Remember that the roughness is part of the appeal for some people, which is why Vortex has a pretty large fanbase.

Why do people hate the Paramount Period of KI?
Pillsberry123 replied to RD Reynolds's topic in Kings Island History

In my opinion the appeal of dining and shopping was only alive in the days of Taft (although I can't speak from experience, I imagine that many would agree). However, I think the foliage and landscaping in the park is great to say the least. The park may not look as good as it did back in the days of Taft, but it is still above average.

The appeal of the "full experience" (dining and shopping as well as rides) is what separates parks like Kings Island from the big destination parks where these things are still part of the appeal such as Disney World, Universal, and (arguably) Busch Gardens. -
Why do people hate the Paramount Period of KI?
Pillsberry123 replied to RD Reynolds's topic in Kings Island History
I don't remember pre-2002 but after 2002 is when I really remember my family visiting, and I can remember from that point on all the overflowing trashcans like what ahank posted. We can argue about themeing all day, but the general public doesn't care as much as we do. However, when looking at something THAT disgusting, the GP takes notice (heck, I did when I was 6 or 7). The problem I had with Paramount is that they didn't handle operations as well as Cedar Fair does. Take or leave the themeing, I don't really care. What I care about is the 1 or 2 hour waits for nearly every ride back in the days of Paramount. Heck, the bigger rides had even longer waits. The capacities on coasters have obviously improved. Back in the day you could only ride 3 or 4 big rides all day. Now you can tackle those before even eating lunch. I remember Action Zone rides being the absolute worst when it comes to long lines. Now I know the main reason people liked Paramount was for the "unique" attractions that they added to the parks line-up, but these really weren't that unique at all. Almost every major attraction was a clone of something else, and the placement was awful. BLSC in the middle of a quiet section in the park when it could (and should) have been placed in Action Zone? Seriously? Not to mention they took out the antique cars, which was a family favorite for years. Flight of Fear is a clone, Invertago is a clone, Drop Tower (might as well be) a clone, TR:TR is a clone, BLSC is a clone... I guess I'm critical of the Paramount days because I thought that both day to day park operations AND park management was pretty bad. Dirty paths, terrible lines, terrible placement of rides which killed the original atmosphere of the areas... The just goes on and on. I think that Cedar Fair is much better for the park. Like others have said, I'd rather have a good amusement park than an average theme park... -
2010 Golden Ticket Awards Announced...
Pillsberry123 replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Cool that KI still has the best kids area after the switch to Planet Snoopy. Also pretty cool that Millennium Force is back on top! EDIT: I guess the hype for Intimidator 305 has dropped. It isn't the #1 steel, nor is it the best new ride for 2010. -

This has been my first year with a season pass and I have enjoyed it a lot. I can't get over how cool it is that I've ridden The Beast as many times as I have (even if it IS small compared to some DB counts on here). Enjoying the hour long ERTs and joking around with the ride crews was a lot of fun. The fact that we live in Indiana puts us off from a lot of you guys who live in Cincinnati, but getting passes has gotten us to visit Cinci a lot more. We've eaten at a lot of independent and unique restaurants and enjoying the city.

The picture of Steel Venom is amazing! Great pics all around.

Is it perhaps the theme from 'Phantasm?" Or perhaps the theme from 'Suspiria?' http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BiYq-545nkQ Two amazing movies... just throwing that out there. EDIT: After thinking about it, the song that count_of_tuscany is thinking of may be the theme from the Fog

It's *exactly* the same as outside the park. The hot dog buns were small, the chili was obviously reheated, the portions were small, and my coneys tasted like they were thrown in the microwave. Skyline chili is served on a *fresh* bun, a fresh pot of chili, big portions, and coneys that are made as you order them. Never really liked Gold Star. Either way, Camp Washington beats the heck out of any of them...

Big Dipper for sale... Again!?
Pillsberry123 replied to Coney Islander's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Will really be sad to see the Big Dipper go. I've only visited Geauga Lake once, only ridden the Dipper once, and enjoyed the heck out of it. Looking at pictures of what the coaster looks like now is heartbreaking to say the least. -
It's good to hear something positive from a company that wasn't looking so good this time last year. Either way, I agree about the food prices, although this is true for a lot more than just Cedar Fair parks. Look at other parks, movie theaters, ect. The days of good park food are long over, and the only places that remain are the parks that specialize in different types of food like Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Epcot. I liked Indiana Beach for the fact that leaving the park WASN'T needed to get a halfway decent (and cheap) meal. As for the other meals I've had at parks recently: I didn't like the pizza at Holiday World, I've never had an above average meal at Cedar Point, and the food at Kings Island is stuff that management should be ashamed of. Skyline taste nothing like it should, and the portions across the board are stingy beyond belief. Eating at parks has become Taboo.

If I'm correct, the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis was funded by tax dollars. Either way, I don't think tax dollars should go to things like amusement parks or football stadiums.

Pros: Planet Snoopy and Boo Blasters Starlight Spectacular Improvement of Theming and general "look" Announcement of Wind Seeker Cons: Racer and Flight Deck still haven't received paint. Son of Beast is still SBNO Above Average/Son of Beast/Good

It was a Saturday, and it's a three day weekend. Of course it's going to be crowded. Always avoid weekends whenever possible, and ALWAYS avoid visiting during a three day weekend. Considering that every singe one of my visits this year have been on a weekend, the park has not been crowded at all this summer. I've gotten 8 rides in a 3 hour period. Just avoid three day weekends, July, the first half of August, and the fourth of July. The fact that the weather was nice probably made a difference, too. On days that have a 20%-30% chance of rain, the park's going to be considerably less crowded. Even more so if there's a 50% or 60% chance. Heck, even days that only call for rain for part of a day can lighten crowds up. EDIT: Also from my experience they do NOT mask wait times. If anything, they OVERestimate the wait.

Welcome to KIC! I agree with you about the Raven. Truly a great ride that it easily underestimated. It's in my top 10 coasters and I think it's going to stay there. If you liked the Raven, then I highly recommend checking out the Cornball Express at Indiana Beach. A small looking coaster, but it packs a huge punch, especially in the front seat. I'm also on the same level with you and the Legend. The Helix is awesome, but the ride is a little rough for my liking. The Voyage is still a ride that I don't think I can fully wrap my head around. I understand why everyone loves it. It's tall, fast, packed full of intensity, and mind blowing, but I just don't enjoy it. On my last visit I didn't get ANY airtime with the exception of the first 3 or 4 hills and it was rougher than I remember. A decent ride, but not something I like riding more than once on a visit. Compare this to the Raven, which I can ride all day non stop and get just as much fun out of. Holiday World is a great park and I have a lot of fun everytime I visit. I don't like getting there at opening since the crowds lighten up after noon (and the coasters are better later in the day).

I get a t-shirt from every park I go to. The only time I wear my amusement park shirts is when I actually visit an amusement park. I usually wear my Beast t-shirt when I visit any park for a day, but when we do a vacation I pack three or four. I bought a 10th Anniversary Millennium Force shirt this year at Cedar Point which I really like. I don't pick up park maps from parks that I'm familiar with (Cedar Point, Holiday World, Kings Island) and when I pick up a map at a new park I usually glance at it for a while and put it back in its spot when I've gotten the layout memorized. I usually go into a new park with a gameplan, so maps don't do anything important for me.

The Racer crew on Saturday: "If you win a giant stuffed animal, you can ride with it! Just strap it in next to you and we'll take a picture! (Obvious sarcasm)" "This is the tallest wooden coaster in Coney Mall! (sees my Top Thrill Dragster shirt) Wow, really? This ride is SO much better than Top Thrill Dragster!"

OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010
Pillsberry123 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I agree it's definitely an eyesore. When one of the largest things on your skyline doesn't function then something needs to be rectified... -
Cedar Fair plans things years in advance. They wouldn't put in Eurobubbles with the knowledge that they would take it out a year later. Also, would the ride even fit in that area? I think that the map on their website is correct. Vortex's exit makes much more sense.
