  1. The other thread I posted this in got closed, so I'll post it here. Fluorescent bubble goop is really hard to wash off of skin. My hands were still glowing under a blacklight when I got home.
  2. Careful about the speed traps; they're sometimes ready to pull several cars over at a time. I go whatever travel lane traffic is going, usually somewhere between 65 and 75 mph, and it takes 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. People that stay in the left lane, flying through at 80, are annoying.
  3. Great, short, and to-the-point. We were sitting in the Festhaus watching the downpour when you texted that you were at Diamondback, so you were braver than us. Were you looking down on DB, or boldly facing straight ahead? I'm surprised they were operating the Dodgems. We walked past around 12:30 and it looked like they were shut down for the night. Coney Mall was absolutely dead. EDIT: and 200 posts apparently makes me a "KIC Junky". I never thought I'd hit 100.
  4. We had to have passed you, as we were taking turns going through Carnevil and waiting by the exit when you said you were headed there. If you saw someone in the park that late wearing shorts and a t-shirt (in the rain in the mid-40s Fahrenheit), it was probably me. Thanks for the text updates you sent; it's too bad we never spotted each other.
  5. The terms of service here requires respect. This means that you must respect other users even if you don't like what they post, and you must write your own posts in a way that respects fellow members. Everyone should keep this in mind when posting or replying on this forum, or anywhere for that matter. Even if someone corrects you or disagrees with you, you must respect that opinion. We all make mistakes, and nearly every single poster here has been corrected at one time or another. (Most of us, many times.) This is certainly not "hating" or "bullying". The fact that everyone strives for interesting, constructive conversation is part of what makes this an enjoyable community to be a part of. To that end, many people here will give out advice and criticism to improve discussions and make this forum a better place. Again, welcome to the forum "idontlikeyou" and/or "Ihavemymoments". I hope you can find this an enjoyable place to read and post!
  6. Welcome to KICentral! There are quite a large number of topics here for general discussion of Haunt, so perhaps you want to constrain this topic to just "random facts" about Haunt? So, here's my random fact: (Hidden with a spoiler tag, for people avoiding maze details) Since you couldn't find many Haunt topics, here's a list of relatively recent ones that you might want to read. (You could find these by typing the word "Haunt" into the search bar.) As a rule of thumb, it's better to reply in an existing topic than to make a new one. http://www.KICentral...ry-of-the-haunt http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 http://www.KICentral...ineup-announced http://www.KICentral...nt-2012-reviews http://www.KICentral...st-things-haunt http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 http://www.KICentral...ekends-question http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 http://www.KICentral...__fromsearch__1 By the way, most people here are rather friendly - so perhaps you could reconsider your username and avatar?
  7. Did you not find us at the park, or were you not able to come? Either way, don't be sorry! Theme park visits are hard to fit into schedules, and it can be hard to find people in a large park. Thanks for the effort, in any case! I really would like to thank everyone who showed up, whether they found us or not. A theme park visit represents a substantial time and money investment for many, so thanks to all for coming on a day with disagreeable weather and sharing your visit with the rest of us!
  8. For the first couple of hours, we were carrying around the "KICentral Haunt Night 2012" sign in case late arrivals ran into us. (A special thanks to Beastie1980's parents for helping with that!)
  9. Since several people apparently want trip reports from last night, I'll go ahead and write one. My posts are usually much more concise, so I apologize in advance for the excess length of this one. (I'm sure ohiocolts will be posting a much better trip report shortly ) Several people from KICentral met up last night for the planned "KIC Haunt Night". I really didn't know what to expect, since prior to last night I had been to neither a theme park enthusiast meet-up nor any theme park Halloween event. Save for the weather and me not being dressed appropriately for it, it was a great experience. Before the night began, I met Jonathan (jcgoble3) at Outback Steakhouse near the park. I got there early, so I walked from there to behind Great Wolf Lodge for a few Son of Beast shots. Sadly, even though I had a decent camera with me all night, these were the only pictures I took. After dinner, I drove over to the park, did a final check of the forecast, and headed towards the front gate wearing shorts and a lightweight t-shirt - without my jacket. Even though I'm quite tolerant of temperature extremes, this was a big mistake. KI security was set up outside the entrance plaza inspecting items and using hand-held metal detectors to check each guest. At 5:10, this process was very quick and there were no lines. By 5:30, Jonathan, Lucas (ohiocolts), his mom, and myself were waiting at the front gate with a "KICentral" sign I had printed. Shortly thereafter, we were found by Melissa (Beastie1980), her parents, and Joshua (stashua123). We played phone tag with TheCrypt and Coasterfanatic2012 throughout the night, but we never managed to meet either of them. (Next time, hopefully!) Just before the park opened, Gordon Bombay found us and took our group picture. (Thanks!) The forecast was truly dreadful, with rain likely all night and a "definite" chance lasting from 10pm-3am, so I was glad that at least some people showed up! We got lucky on the rain front with only a few periods of heavy showers, but evening temperatures were at least 10°F lower than forecast. Combined with wind and rain, this turned out not to be pleasant at all without a jacket. Especially at 80mph. After the park opened, we waited for a few minutes near the fountains to catch anyone who missed us at the gate. Lucas decided that he wasn't ready for mazes yet, so the rest of us headed to Wolf Pack while he and his mom went to do some rides. Joshua separated from us to find us later, but unfortunately he never did. Melissa was scared of the Haunts, but she wanted to do Wolf Pack to be in Son of Beast's station before the coaster is completely gone. Jonathan, her, and myself headed there and did the maze with absolutely no wait. The actors were doing a great job, but we had to be one of the least fun groups to go through there all night. Jonathan went first, barely reacting to each "scare". After Jonathan got startled, Melissa cheerfully greeted each one with a "Hi!". I was last, apologizing to each actor for our lackluster reactions. Melissa enjoyed Wolf Pack, but she had enough scares for the evening. We briefly separated as Jonathan and I went to the nearby Slaughter House, where we got special greetings from XGatorHead and rotag. (Thanks! It was great to meet you, even extremely briefly!) We then went to Club Blood before rejoining Melissa for a ride on Invertigo. By this time, it was shortly after 7:00, so Jonathan and I decided to separate again to see Madam Fatale's Cavern of Terror. The line here was only about 10 minutes. There were some great props here, and it was interesting to be in the Crypt ride chamber, but the acting seemed a bit weaker than some of the others. By this time it was around 7:30 and starting to get dark. Lucas and his mom wanted to meet us for Tombstone Terrortory at 8:00, so we had time to meet up with Melissa again for a ride on The Beast. Since there was only a station wait and we had extra time, we waited for the front two rows to let it get darker. We rode just after dusk, but unfortunately it had just started raining. Temperatures weren't too bad yet, so I had a pleasant first-ever night ride on The Beast. Melissa wanted to head home after this, so her family left while Jonathan and I headed to Tombstone Terrortory to meet Lucas. His dad had joined them by this point, so the five of us boarded the train and did the maze with almost no wait. The train operator did a spiel beforehand, presumably explaining the storyline of the maze, but the audio was too jumbled to understand anything. There were some good "startles" here, and Lucas's mom had a few good scares (and screams). This Haunt provided enough scares for Lucas, so we headed to Diamondback for a night ride in light rain. By this point, I started to regret that I decided not to wear a jacket, as temperatures were falling much lower than had been forecast a few hours earlier. Jonathan wanted to do all the Haunts, so Lucas and his family separated while I joined Jonathan for mazes. We did Holiday Horror, Cornstalkers, Carnevil, and Boo Blasters. We were a bit tired and cold by this point, around 10:30pm, so we decided to meet Lucas and his family in the Festhaus. Jonathan and I caught up with them there after catching the end of "Graveyard Shift". We then decided to try to meet Coasterfanatic2012 in Planet Snoopy, but we missed them - as we would continue to do the next 2 times we tried. Lucas's dad parted ways at some point, and both Lucas and his mom were getting ready to call it a night. Lucas's mom wanted to do Carnevil, even though Lucas had had enough, so I accompanied her as Jonathan waited outside with Lucas. Jonathan and I then went through yet again, in a last attempt to find Coasterfanatic2012 and TTD-120-420. There were about two hours of park operation left at this point, and only Jonathan and myself were left. We rode Racer in the front seat (the train had been sitting there 5 minutes waiting for riders to show up), rode Flight of Fear 2 times with minimal/no wait, and went through a couple more mazes (Mysteria and Massacre Manor). By this time, there were absolutely no guests at the mazes, and several actors were out-of-character. We called it a night around 12:50am. Overall, I was much more impressed with the acting than I was with the props, although there are some very good props. If you go, definitely hit the haunted attractions early in the day, before the actors get tired after 7 hours on the job. Most of the actors did a great job and gave an entertaining performance. Again, I apologize for not being more 'fun' with respect to the scares, though I was in my 32nd hour of not having any sleep. (But that's another story.) Going to KI alone to meet people I had never seen before was a new experience. It was really enjoyable to meet some of the people behind the posts here, and I realized that there are people here that know a whole lot more about KI and theme parks than I do. Hopefully I'll get to go to such a meet-up again. Thanks for reading this excessively long account of our night. Hopefully those who couldn't come are able to attend the next meet-up!
  10. If you'll want to meet up with the KIC group tonight, reply to the other thread referenced above. Look for someone holding a "KICentral" sign before the park opens, near the gate.
  11. Most likely, some resource loaded by that page is considered malicious or is coming from a host known to be malicious. (Malicious scripts loaded with an ad, exploit script inserted because the site isn't properly secured, etc) Assuming your browser and all plugins are up-to-date, the risk is minimal. The owner of the site needs to fix this by removing whatever script/resource is causing the block. Perhaps try finding the video elsewhere, or try without the paranoid virus scanner.
  12. He answered that in the second half of his sentence. They're distances from Columbus. Speaking of that, whether Cedar Point or Kings Island is closer to where I live depends on where I park. (100.0 miles gets me into either parking lot.)
  13. It's not a roller coaster and it's not at KI, but I got stuck on Mammoth at Holiday World. Everyone had to evacuate to a stairway via a small ladder and walk back to the station.
  14. Most likely, the guest didn't enter the maze intending to punch an actor. Some people, unfortunately, have an instinctive reaction of violence when they feel threatened. That's absolutely no excuse, of course, as guests are informed about the experience and are responsible for controlling their behavior. If there was no criminal intent, prosecution might not be appropriate. If the assailant ran, or otherwise didn't take responsibility, criminal charges could be very appropriate. For everyone's safety, anyone committing any assault in the park should be escorted out immediately, without exception.
  15. In late August, a ride operator was thanking riders for riding "Flight Deck, formerly Top Gun".
  16. Columbus Day is Monday, which apparently has an effect. (Government employees don't work that day, and some may be out of school) Hopefully it won't have too big of an effect this Friday. Cedar Point's Sunday hours are 10am-10pm for the first time since Labor Day weekend. This is a telling sign that they're expecting large crowds.
  17. My legs hit the front of the cars on Vortex, so it's not very pleasant to ride. If I'm not in the front seat of a car, it's downright painful.
  18. For me, it would have to be Cedar Point's Mine Ride, from 2002-2012. It's not a coaster, but I haven't been up the Eiffel Tower since 1998(!). I really should go up there again.
  19. How late did you stay? If Haunt crowds are anything like normal late-operation crowds, lines get much shorter as closing time approaches. It should be possible to get quite a few rides into the 12am hour. If you're going this Friday night, make sure to look for the group of us from KIC. (Or even join us.)
  20. This forum works well on a mobile browser; you don't need an app to use it.
  21. ^ Stopped reading at "scariest parts were the", because I don't want spoilers. Those of us who haven't been there yet don't want to know what the scariest parts are. We want to be scared by them. Could you hide the spoilers with the forum spoiler tag, or - even better - remove the spoilers completely?
  22. According to the Gaylord CEO, who will remain at the much smaller company, the project may not be entirely dead: (http://www.wsmv.com/story/19668111/dolly-parton-ends-partnership-with-nashville-water-park) That statement must be taken with a rather large grain of salt, as the new Gaylord will no longer be investing in the development of new properties. They have a real estate interest in someone going ahead with this project, however unlikely it may be. (We can be pretty sure that Marriott isn't going back into the amusement park business.)
  23. Call 513-754-5700 and ask to be transferred to the 24 hr security line. I would give the direct number but I am not sure I am allowed to give it. The number for KI security is 513-754-5728 Obviously, don't call it unless you have a legitimate reason to speak to security at KI. In an emergency, dial 911.
  24. My favorites would be anything consisting of chocolate and nuts (using the word "nut" very loosely) - Reese's cups, peanut M&M's, Almond Joy, and the old formulation of Mr. Goodbar. (Sadly, the latter is now "mockolate" instead of chocolate, as Hershey replaced cocoa butter with vegetable oil) I usually get a large bag from Costco and simply pick my favorites out for me to enjoy. (Mean, I know.)
  25. ^ No, that fee is for online orders only. Taking up an actual employee's time at the park to renew is free.
