Dyn, which provides DNS services, has been undergoing a DDOS attack today. Many major websites have been experiencing intermittent downtime as a result. Cedar Fair's websites use Dyn for DNS. http://rss.slashdot.org/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~3/ZCb1z5eVV1Q/several-sites-including-twitter-spotify-paypal-nytimes-suffering-outage----dyn-dns-under-ddos-attack-update

I'm 99% sure that this is redeemed by presenting your (renewed) pass at a ticket window, but expect a definitive answer from ohiocolts.

It seemed packed from ~8pm until ~10pm, but other than that it wasn't bad. Notable exceptions: The Beast had an hour-long wait most of the night, and the Field of Screams line was at least an hour when we were there.

You're here? And I believe it's Shake Rattle and Roll. Yep, I'm here. A number of KIC members are here tonight.

Backwoods Bayou, Banshee, and Troika have quite long lines.

Both Liz & I have passes, so we wouldn't benefit from the complimentary ticket.

Likewise, if any 6' tall types who are a little nuts want to run, I do need to make another trip to KI Haunt. My attempt to form a Coffin Race team last Friday didn't work out (we only had 4), so I'm definitely open to joining someone's team or taking another shot at organizing one.

I wasn't told anything about needing a new picture when I renewed at the park in September.

I started a thread on season ridership numbers awhile back, recounting data released publicly by the park. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/30475-kings-island-2014-rider-counts/ Banshee was the most-ridden ride in 2014 and 2015. It will be interesting to see how close Diamondback gets this year, as they really seem to be pushing through the lines.

^ He must not have hated it too much, since he went through three mazes this past Friday.

One kid at this year's Coasterstock dinner thought so.

Theme Park closures for Hurricane Matthew

^ The fear that the rides or entire park would close would likely keep me from making a trip to a park during any tropical system. If the wind & lightning conditions somehow permitted safe operation, if the park was open, and if I was already there, I'd go. Riding coasters during a torrential rain sounds like fun. -
Star Wars Land: Abandon Your Ride Vehicles!
malem replied to Voicetek's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Since it's Disney, I'm sure guest access & capacity will be well thought-out. From an operations standpoint, I'd envision it being two rides separated by a very interactive queue. I do like the idea of having a longer experience. Getting up and interacting with the set before re-boarding the ride could be really cool. -
Phantom Theater to any park within 200 miles.

It should be noted that getting to SFGAm could take much longer than that, depending on traffic around Chicago. Also note that there are 4 toll plazas in each direction. If you don't have an EZPass transponder, you can still drive through EZPass lanes (Chicago Skyway & Indiana Toll Road excluded), write down the toll plaza numbers, and pay missed tolls online within 7 days without penalty. Early Saturday morning was a good time to make the drive; traffic on 294 (speed limit 55-60) was moving at ~80.

SFGAm just makes the cutoff:

RHAC's money comes directly from students in the form of housing fees, so it's good if they're frugal. If they really wanted to be frugal, they'd ask those with a season pass to use it for admission.

Riding in the back was most effective. If a doctor prescribes roller coasters, I wonder if an argument could be made for FSA reimbursement for a Platinum Pass? Too bad Cedar Point just got rid of their coaster that was really effective at knocking things loose. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/research-finds-thrilling-cure-kidney-stones-roller-coasters-n654576

With Friday afternoon classes & football each upcoming Saturday, it probably has to be Sunday. Should have checked before advertising it as Haunt, I suppose.

^ To answer your question about processing at the wrong park: they generally allow it (at least between KI and CP), despite wording on the vouchers and the online store that processing must be done at your home park. But I doubt you'd want to process there since your pass won't be valid there until May 2017. When you do process, make sure to verify that you have ID card(s) good for both 2016 (gold) and 2017 (platinum). In previous seasons, some guests have been told to keep their current-year pass until the next season when doing an upgrade. This season, I believe they are keeping both years' passes on the same card.
-
^ If you renewed from 2016 KI gold to 2017 platinum, note that your pass isn't valid at Cedar Point until 2017. If you bought a new 2017 platinum pass, it would be valid for one free 2016 visit at the park you purchased it from. You wouldn't get renewal perks, though.

COSI's Adventure to Close 2017
malem replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
If our Holiday Party is the first weekend of December, doing this the same weekend as the GOCC Holiday Party could allow people not in Columbus do to both with one trip. -
COSI's Adventure to Close 2017
malem replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I read about the dinosaur exhibit, but I didn't realize it was going into Adventure's space. I'll definitely make a point to visit before it closes. I've only been in once, when my group decided to exit the exhibit before making it through the first level. Hard to imagine it's already 17 years old. Hopefully COSI (in due time) follows up with an interactive experience that's a worthy successor. -
Also note that KI does the "wall of monsters" on Fridays, where scareactors storm the front gate right as the park opens. You may encounter them before even entering the park.
