  1. We're drinking lots of Kinzel cups of water and enjoying the non-existent lines.
  2. Kings Dominion is dead today with a 100+ degree heat index.
  3. You could be filmed at such an event, but you're not going to be interviewed on camera without first agreeing to it. Note that by entering a park, you're generally granting permission for the use of pictures/video containing you.
  4. For a forgotten pass, Kings Island allows passholders to obtain a temporary (paper) season pass once per season, valid only on the date of issue. I would suggest calling Cedar Point to confirm their policy. (Since you'll have her pass in your possession for days 2 and 3, you only need a temporary pass for the first day.) The $15 replacement pass is offered once per season. Since you already did for her pass in June, buying another is probably not an option. (Be careful not to lose a replacement pass.)
  5. Fixed. (I copied and pasted the URL from the park's website, but a forum bug broke it.) If I leave early enough, I might stop at Kings Island at ERT for a quick ride on Banshee and my first dining plan meal of the day. I obviously won't be at the tour. To be fair, any web-enabled device would work. Dumb phone, smartphone, laptop, tablet, smartwatch...
  6. This upcoming Friday afternoon, Kings Island is offering a complimentary behind-the-scenes tour of The Beast to gold and platinum passholders via the passholder portal. Details are available by signing into (or registering for) the passholder portal on visitkingsisland.com. Participants must have a web-capable mobile device to access the portal and redeem the offer at the park. (KI offers free park-wide WiFi for your convenience.)
  7. The original story has been updated; the ride will be removed from the park.
  8. ^^ Last ride of the night is traditionally with the lights on. Whether that's a positive is debatable.
  9. ^ To an amusement park in Italy. http://rcdb.com/12069.htm
  10. I missed out on King Cobra and SkyRider, so I'm definitely glad that I'm going to KD before this type disappears from North America. Shameless plug: We still have room for someone to come with us to take Last Stand(s) on Shockwave (& last ride(s) on Thunder Road) next weekend! http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/30835-carowindskd-weekend-roadtrip-summer-2015-dates-tbd/page-4
  11. ^ Valleyed? Or just rolled back (to the launch tunnel)?
  12. If you meet other members who live in your area, you might set up a carpool for an event. Like the one I'm arranging here.
  13. This year's GOCC events are/were at Kennywood, Michigan's Adventure, Carowinds, & Cedar Point. They hosted a Kings Island event last year. GOCC also gives you access to park-sponsored events such as CoasterStock at Kings Island, HoliWood Nights at Holiday World (with $20+ membership options), and CoasterMania at Cedar Point.
  14. If events in Ohio & surrounding states interest you, Great Ohio Coaster Club might be another consideration. I suggest checking out the scheduled events of each club that you are considering. Going to an event as a guest of an existing member is one way to "test out" a club. With any of them, you'll have the chance to meet people of all sorts of backgrounds & experiences who share a passion for amusement parks. Do be aware that Coaster Crew was not part of 2015's CoasterMania, though they are hosting an event at Cedar Point next month.
  15. ^ Riders in Ohio are required to follow safety instructions, which (on The Beast) say to keep your arms & legs inside the car at all times.
  16. Try changing and re-verifying your email address. Depending on the permissions configuration, this sort of thing could happen if it thinks your email address is not confirmed.
  17. ^ Payment plans were available for both 2015 gold and platinum passes in the fall of 2014. This is the cheapest time to purchase passes. Prices last fall were (give or take a few cents) $90 for gold passes, $180 for platinum renewals, and $186 for new platinum passes. Online payment plans were offered in six installments. All online orders are plus a processing fee, currently $6-10 based on the number of tickets in your order. If past trends continue, 2016 prices will be announced (& passes will go on sale) sometime around Labor Day weekend.
  18. ^^ Some have things to do on the holiday that preclude amusement park visits.
  19. ^ homestar92 or I should write a JavaScript app to watch the webcam all day, plotting dispatch times and hourly capacity.
  20. ^^^ He's actually a member of this forum; I'm sure he'll appreciate your shout out. I second the suggestion to share your compliment with Guest Services. Good feedback is definitely appreciated.
  21. While we're on the topic of volumes of water, it should be noted that it's possible to drink too much (as well as too little), and that thirst is not a reliable indicator for everyone. Especially when spending time in hot weather, it's important to drink an appropriate amount of fluids and to spread your consumption throughout the day. When it's above 90°F at an amusement park, I generally aim for 2 Kinzel cups per hour. Your needs will vary; my water absorption (and loss) rates when exerting myself tend to be higher than average. I tared the scale with the empty cup, so subtracting its weight was done automatically.
  22. At the risk of further derailing this thread, I just took a measurement of a Kinzel cup from my recent trip to Kings Island. I tared the scale, filled the cup with water almost to the brim, and weighed the contents at 7.2 ounces. The temperature of the water was 24°C (76°F), and the atmospheric pressure was 1.0atm. So, 6.9 fluid ounces. It presumably would have been 7 had I filled the cup more carefully.
  23. ^ One fluid ounce of water weighs approximately one ounce; one milliliter of water weights approximately one gram. To be exact, one would need to use the density of water at the current temperature and pressure. Measuring the weight of a substance (and then computing the volume) is sometimes easier than measuring the volume directly.
  24. ^^ Verifying the volume by measuring the weight of water it holds (with a kitchen scale) would be a lot easier.
