  1. Something close: In 2011, I was visiting Holiday World for the first time on the Friday of HoliWood Nights (I had purchased the all-day Friday option). That afternoon, I went through the single rider line for Wildebeest and had just been assigned to a boat when the ride stopped as I was sitting down. We sat there for about five minutes while maintenance figured things out, until I saw an employee with a pad of paper go up to each boat, speak with the riders for a moment, write something down on the pad, tear off the top sheet, and hand it to them, followed by the riders getting up and leaving. This continued until she got back to my boat. Turns out the piece of paper she was giving everyone who was already on the ride was a free front-of-line pass to that ride for when it reopened so we didn't have to wait on the ride for an unknown length of time. I said thank you and left. Half an hour later, the ride reopened, and I used the pass to bypass the line. Note that the pass was given only to those who were already on the ride and I think the group that was next to board. Also, the pass was a pre-printed form listing about a dozen major rides in both the dry park and waterpark (Wildebeest was marked so that our passes could only be used there), so it's obviously standard policy at HW to do this. Does anyone else know of another park that does something similar?
  2. I hate to say it, but I honestly think that the new Flashback Til Opening Day thread killed this game. It was going great until the flashback thread started, but since then we're constantly hitting the two-day rule. Can't we have both?
  3. Should the same go for Airbrush Tee's?
  4. It's not near GWL. If coming from the north, take KI Drive all the way past KI down to the light at Western Row Road (I-71 ramps will be directly across from you). Turn left there and take the driveway immediately on the left. The driveway will take you around the Soak City entrance, before forking. Take the fork to the left and you will be in the employee parking lot. Human Resources is at the north end of employee parking near VIP parking (which is sandwiched between employee and handicap parking). If coming from the south, take I-71 exit 24, turn right and the driveway will be immediately on the left. Follow the instructions above.
  5. I think more than anything else at an amusement park, Halloween events are truly a case where "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Everybody has different expectations, as well as different preferences for intensity, gore, and the like. In 2011, my group of five were discussing favorites at the end of the night; everybody had a different favorite, and some people's favorite mazes were another person's worst maze. Even the exact night you go can greatly color your view as crowd sizes can vary wildly depending on weather and are far heavier on Saturdays then Fridays. In 2012, we had off and on rain all night on a Friday, and the park was dead to the point that most mazes were walk-ons, leaving us happy that could do them all with plenty of extra time. Somehow, I doubt the people that visited eight days later on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend had the same experience.
  6. I'd http://www.visitkingsisland.com/contact-us'>call the park and ask them directly.
  7. Correct. If you renewed online using the instant renewal, or if you renewed at the park during the fall sale and were not given a voucher that you were told had to be taken to the processing office, then the same pass you used in 2012 is ready for the turnstiles in 2013. You do not need to go through Season Pass Processing again (though it probably wouldn't hurt to stop in and have the picture retaken every few years, but that can be done whenever you want).
  8. Physical exertion has nothing to do with it. It's the lack of anything to keep us occupied on the way back that is the problem.
  9. Yes. It's been explained here numerous times. After one of the ride's many revisions, a park marketing person at Kings Island, who often posts here, Mr. Don Helbig, posted in these forums that The Crypt had been very popular the year before, and that, contrary to perceptions, it was almost always open, as it had far less downtown. Several weeks later, a very similar post appeared, also by the park, also citing The Crypt's reduced downtown. Ah. Thanks.
  10. His ride was still standing and operating when he joined, so it was not by choice for him. If you want to get technical, Son of Beast was SBNO when he joined. It reopened for the first time after the 2006 accident five days later.
  11. OK, enough fooling around. Would somebody please explain to me exactly when, where, and how the "downtown" joke originated? I'd very much like to know.
  12. ^ Two to three months? He's going to be pushing it close on the 90-day window to back out.
  13. I found the site via Google when I was considering buying my first season pass in May 2010. I lurked until late July of that year, when I finally registered to ask a question (I forget exactly what it was about), the answer to which I needed before a trip to KI with my mother coming up in a few days. Unfortunately, it took nine days for an admin to approve my account so that I could post, by which time it was too late for the question (which had been resolved in a different manner anyway). I stuck around anyway, mostly lurking with occasional posts until that offseason, when I became more active.
  14. The dinosaur movie is making Action Theater fat? Is it that it's eating too many dinos, or is it the fact that the dino movie killed the "action" part of it's name, so that it's not getting enough exercise?
  15. ^ You can still comment on KI's own posts, but you can't make new posts (i.e. start a new "thread") of your own on their timeline anymore.
  16. I'm waiting to see how many of the idiots that frequented the KI Facebook page find their way here.
  17. They disabled the ability for others to post on their page. I'm not sure whether this is a good move or a bad move.
  18. https://www.facebook.com/groups/325861871036/permalink/10151366681806037/ Paula's reply here a couple of hours ago seems to indicate that they will be performing further testing on the Timberliners in March.
  19. The flyer (https://www.holidayworld.com/sites/holidayworld.com/files/HWN%202013%20Sunset%20Flyer.pdf'>direct PDF link) has now been modified to remove all references to Dan and the movie that the 2013 event was themed to.
  20. I think the walk back to Flight Deck only seems as long as it is (about two minutes from midway to station with a quick stride) because there's really nothing to look at during the walk, so all you notice is putting one foot in front of the other. So here's an idea I just had: Now that SOB is out of the way, take out half to two-thirds of the queue and exit for Flight Deck and extend the AZ midway back that way. Then put in several rides along the new stretch of midway (I'm thinking small flats here like Flying Eagles, a Tilt-A-Whirl, etc.). A major coaster to replace SOB (if they go that route) could have it's entrance/exit back here also, or up where Thunder Alley used to be. You could also put a food or snack stand back here as well. Now the walk back to Flight Deck probably won't seem as long because you can stop and look at the flats, grab a thimble-sized cup of ice water, maybe be distracted when a train on the brand-spanking-new record-breaking coaster that replaced SOB (yeah, right ) roars overhead, and by the time you reach what's left of the Flight Deck queue, you've barely noticed the length of the walk. This would also have benefit of simplifying the queues for Club Blood, Wolf Pack, and Flight Deck during Haunt, as it would no longer be necessary to reconfigure the FD exit to serve as the entrance for all three. Anybody else like this, or am I missing something obvious (other than cost) as to why this wouldn't work?
  21. The domain registration expires September 21, 2014: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/kingsisland.com And indeed, there is no longer anything at http://www.kingsisland.com/ , and a Google search for "king's island" toronto ontario -ohio (using information from the WHOIS search above) returns nothing in the first two pages about the company.
  22. The past two years, it has been Magnum from 8am to 10am and then Gemini for the rest of the event. Oh, and I have no preference as to which side of The Racer.
  23. I'm now beginning to narrow down the list of challenges by removing all that a posted photo qualifies for, rather than removing only the exact challenge answered and leaving similar challenges up; the goal is to see how small the list can get by Opening Day. Let's see how many I can delete with this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcgoble3/5957964237/'> Hard - Any flat ride at night - VortexBFForever Hard - Any ride in Coney Mall at night - VortexBFForever Easy - WindSeeker, seen from anywhere except the Eiffel Tower - Original Hard - WindSeeker in action at night - VortexBFForever Hard - WindSeeker's light package at night - VortexBFForever (×2) Five challenges with one photo isn't bad! Now for the "new" challenges (actually, I personally am only reusing previous challenges at this point to keep from making the list any longer): Easy: Backlot Stunt Coaster (Original) Hard: Railroad crossing on the walkway between Soak City and the main park (SonofBaconador) Expert: Kings Island skyline, NOT taken from I-71, Kings Island Drive, or the parking lot (DropZone99)
  24. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcgoble3/6977021342/'> Easy: Any basketball game (TOPGUN1993) Hard: Any coaster at night (KIfan73) Expert: Trash can blocking entrance to any closed ride (myself)
  25. http://www.coastingforkids.org/ The 2013 website is up, but apparently still under construction, as there are no itineraries up yet.
