I don't believe that those cups are 7 ounces, even though the bag they come in says so. One of these days I'm going to take a small plastic measuring cup into the park with me on a slow day, get a couple of Kinzel cups of water, and measure just how much water is in them. And I might even see about recording continuous video of the whole thing, from ordering the cups to pouring them into the measuring cup, maybe even with a drop of food coloring so that the water shows up better on the video, and then upload the video to YouTube for everyone to see.

Souvenir cups from 2014....can they be reused in 2015?
jcgoble3 replied to dkern11's topic in Kings Island
Welcome to KIC! To answer your question, no; only current year cups can be used for refills. Some associates might let you fill last year's cups, but they are not supposed to. This has been the policy since 2013. Sorry! -
Epic meh. I mean, I wasn't impressed by DisneyQuest in 2012, but I also don't follow the NBA and suck at basketball. So I really couldn't care less.

Update on the rancid pulled pork: I woke up today with diarrhea. I have nothing to point my finger at except that pulled pork. Apparently those three bites were enough to upset my digestive system.

Finally gave up on waiting for my pass to arrive in the mail and drove to the park today. I was in and out of the season pass center in literally less than a minute with this: Now watch the original pass show up in tomorrow's mail. Overall, the park seems decent this year. The only area I can seriously complain about is food service. On both lunch (Swampwater Jack's) and dinner (Junior's BBQ), I had to wait a couple minutes for someone to even recognize I was waiting for service, then a couple more for that person to find someone else who actually knows how to serve the food (?) and then even longer while that person wastes time chatting with other co-workers instead of serving customers. And yes, I had to go through all three of those steps on both meals. Also, the pulled pork sandwich at Junior's BBQ was so rancid that I literally took three bites and threw it away. I couldn't get it replaced since they were already closing down and cleaning up (to be fair, I did walk in about two minutes before they were scheduled to close for the day), so I went to Guest Services and filled out a complaint form. Guest Services did not offer a refund, so I went hungry since I was out of cash and did not bring a credit card. I ran out of time and didn't get back to Twisted Twins to see if any work was being done. I saw one train cycle on T3, but that was it as far as testing. A very short time later, I snapped this shot from near T3's entrance: Yes, that's a maintenance guy studying something with binoculars. From the angle, it looked like he was studying the lift hill, but I might be wrong. The employee sitting outside the fenced-off entrance emphasized the words "very soon" when saying that it would open very soon, but somehow I don't believe that. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised for T3 to eventually be advertised as "new for 2016!", and then fail to open on time again. I did, however, buy a T3 shirt: I wonder if that will suddenly become valuable on eBay if for some reason T3 never reopens? And on a final note, I present a representative sample of the handrails on the stairs to the station in Thunder Run's queue: ...yeah.

Meanwhile, at Kentucky Kingdom's front gate gift shop today... -
I order my meal without fries every time at Chicken Shack. Not because I hate them, but because I don't want them to go to waste. Three tenders and toast is more than enough to fill my tiny stomach up.

Banshee is a walk-on, if anyone close wants to come by for some night rides.

Great report so far. A couple notes: $25 is indeed bad for an amusement park pizza. For comparison, The Beach Waterpark charges about $15 for a whole pizza IIRC. Also, if posting a trip report in multiple segments over time, it's generally better to append each section to the end of the thread after any comments that have been made, rather than editing them into previous posts. If you do the latter, those who have previously opened the thread are not notified of the "new post".

This is the SECOND time you've bumped this thread. I don't know what to make of that.

Leave and return in same day with parking pass?
jcgoble3 replied to merlin803's topic in Kings Island
Goble, I liked your post, and then unliked it so that I could like it again. Just thought I'd let you know. You were the person I had in mind when I said that. -

Someone annoyed by the overuse of fog? -

If you pay for parking at the toll booth, make sure to keep your receipt and present it for re-entry when you return. If you use a Gold or Platinum Pass, or a regular season pass with the all-season parking add-on, I believe you just have the pass scanned again. -

Eventually these infernal things will be banned in so many places that there will cease to be a market for them, and then they will die off like the stupid fad that they are. I look forward to that day.- 28 replies

The Edge of the Millennium Tour 6/21-6/24 (Hershey/Dorney)
jcgoble3 replied to MDMC01's topic in Trip Reports
At Holiday World, they just do thumbs up, with no audible signal. Or at least that's how it's been for several years. I don't know if they're doing anything different with Thunderbird. -
Flashback to how the site looked on my 10th birthday! Man, I feel old... (and I'm "only" 28 now )

Changes to 2015 dining plans (Update: not happening)
jcgoble3 replied to malem's topic in Kings Island
If you do the Reds Grille with a dining plan, please remember that the dining plan does not include the tip, which should be calculated based on the total price before the dining plan is applied. I wonder how many people tip based on the net total after the entree is taken off, or how many assume that the tip is included with the dining plan despite a clear statement on the check that it is not. -
If you have not gone yet, I suggest making a run to Jimmy Johns or Chipotle just up the road.. Call in the order first, then pick it up and have a Kings Island Tailgate. Um, that post was from LAST YEAR. That might give you a clue as to whether they've gone to KI yet.

I wish I could afford trips like this this summer. But I will have to live vicariously through other people's trip reports, and this was a good one for that. -
This is what "folders" are for.

If you still type "pki.com" into your browser's address bar to access the Kings Island website, then I think it's time for you to move into 2015 and learn what these wonderful things call "bookmarks" are for. (A bit more on topic: Firefox also times out.)

Considering that the Snake Pit's Philly Cheesesteak is now on the dining plan, I don't really care what the price is.

Sounds like a fun day! I want to get to Hersheypark someday, but there are a lot of other parks that I've never been to ahead of it on my to-do list (Carowinds, Dollywood, BGW, and Indiana Beach all come to mind, in no particular order).
